"I'm actually fine." pointed out Sev, knowing things would be a lot calmer and easier without Ruby. "Like you said, I just need my dressing changed now and then. I'm absolutely fine, I'm just resting before I walk again."

"Since this is pretty much my fault. I'm so sorry, Severin."
He waved his hand dismissively. "It's not your fault, unless you set the trap yourself." he replied. "You don't have anything to feel sorry for."

He waited until she was very close, and then whispered so that only she could hear. "Please make sure you're the only one who changes my dressing."
The prospect of going to Ruby for it was a little too distressing.

"Comfortable, Darling?"
He couldn't help but smile inwardly as Ana, followed by Gwen, proceeded to destroy Ruby verbally, while the nurse could only make simple, bare arguments. He'd expected it from Ana, but he particularly enjoyed seeing it from Gwen. She certainly had a great deal of strength.
Although he felt somewhat guilty at enjoying seeing them tear Ruby down so badly.
He smiled up at her, his breathing starting to relax more. "I've had much, much rougher nights. This is lovely." he said. He glanced to make sure Ruby wasn't anywhere near them, and then motioned for Gwen to lean in closer with his hand.

Despite all the pain surging through his body, he most hated the embarrassment. On the ground, helpless, at the mercy of some nurse who made mountains out of molehills. He simply kept quiet for the most part, not wanting to be drawn into an argument with Ruby while there was still a hole in his leg.
His head rolled to one side, and he looked up at Gwen. This was most definitely embarrassing.

"THREE.."
"Raaaaaaaaaaargh!!" Severin had been through much worse than an arrow through his leg, and he had a high pain threshold. Still, Ruby was anything but gentle, and he felt the edges of the arrow scrape into yet more flesh as it was ripped out.
"Listen, Severin like I said I'm sorry for calling you a doormat and everything else, I guess I was more disappointed with you more than anything!"
He breathed in and out rapidly, realizing that maybe Ruby was having trouble understanding it wasn't the best time to have a conversation with someone. At least wait until I've stopped bleeding. "Ruby, I've honestly forgotten and I don't care anymore." he said truthfully.

"OK Severin, here's the deal, no one else in this search party has any medical knowledge but me, so before you go shooting your mouth off, just think who your talking to got it? I don't think you understadn how bad a knee injury can be, you know you can be paraylsed for the rest of your life? Do yuo fancy hopping round on crutches then?"
"I understand the consequences of a knee injury. I've had much worse." he said through gritted teeth and wishing he had a nurse with a better bedside manner.
"Right Severin brace yourself, because this will be anything but pretty!, right after three. One, two..."
He tightened his grip n a tuft of grass, and grinded his teeth together.

This was certainly humiliating. To be injured, helpless, was embarassing at all, but now he had to reply on Ruby.
"So tell me what's happened?"
He looked at her, raising an eyebrow. "An arrow went through my leg."

"Hang on, I think I heard something,"
He managed to contain his pained grunts long enough to hear what sounded like distant voices. "Hello?" he asked the darkness, raising his voice.

"Did any of you see it on the hike yesterday?"
"No, which is a good thing." he grunted, walking uneasily with them.

"We should head back along this path. We know it's safe."
He felt like at any second, his leg was going to snap beneath him. However, it remained intact, meaning he'd just have to settle for the numbing pain. "All right then. Let's go."

"Shall we get a move on then, Darling?"
"You think you can walk if we help you?"
"Yes, yes." he said, relieved he was going to stand. He felt helpless just lying on his back. He put his arms out for Gwen and Ana to help, and began to move his good leg.

"I mean, it could be much worse, couldn't it?"
"Feel free to laugh. I'm well aware of the pansiness of that name." he said, trying his best to keep a wide grin. It was getting difficult to think straight or concentrate.

"It looks like he's got an arrow through his knee." Ana said plainly, using the last bandage they had. "It'll work for getting him back to either Ruby or Jack, but that's it."
"Jack, please."
"And it's Percy."
He looked to Ana, and then looked at Gwen. He smiled and shrugged, and then grunted in pain as he did.

He gave a pained laugh. "I'll look forward to it. Maybe if I feel stupid I'll tell you my first name." he said, smiling up at her between moans.

"Actually, it would be Private Darling. Severin is just my middle name." he said, pointlessly correcting her. "I suppose with all the plane crashes and leg injuries that happen frequently in my life, I just haven't found the time to enjoy a pretzel."

He couldn't help but grin foolishly as he recounted a description of Santa Monica. "I've never been to LA. From Sydney to LA was going to be my first time there. I've never eaten a pretzel, either." he breathed, well aware what Gwen was trying to do and grateful that it was working. He could practically smell the saltwater and creaks below his feet. He somehow doubted it was as lovely as Gwen described, but that was no harm in pretending.

He was stunned for a moment by Ana's sudden order, and then submissively started to obey.
The strain on his leg proved too much, combined with the shock of Ana and Gwen working together. He slowly eased back down onto the ground as Ana ordered. He bit the inside of his lip to deal with the pain.

"Should've known this would be your fault."
"Ana...!" he growled, trying to ignore the pain. A difficult task, as the belt tightened roughly around his leg.
"Just hang on. You'll be fine,"
As Gwen brushed hair out of his face and smiled reassuringly, he found it helped a great deal. He smiled back.
"What about Ruby? She's a nurse, and they can't have gone too far. Closer than the beach, at any rate."
"I still regret bringing her along. Perhaps bleeding to death might just convince me..." he said, straining to stand with Ana and Gwen. He felt like his leg was going to crack beneath him, and lifted it up slightly, keeping it off the ground.

"You're the one we need to worry about. Just...try not to move."
"All right. I can do that. In fact, I think if I close my eyes, I'll suddenly be very good at that." he said, holding his leg and feeling warm blood over his fingers "Oh, look. Blood. We should probably do something about that."
