(sorry, but our characters can't really relax back and let Ruby talk smack to them. Wouldn't be in character for many of us)
"Ruby, for God's sake, not again." groaned Severin, closing his eyes briefly, sick of Ruby's never-ending self-righteous monologues. "There's no need to attack Gwen every time she makes a comment. If you don't have anything constructive to say, than keep silent and think about the possible reasons why a discussion on bones and graves might be upsetting."

He limped forward with as much effort as he could muster, supported by Ana. He was quickly confirmed that along with personal relations and self-awareness, tact was not a skill that Ruby possessed.
"Let's just get Sev back to the beach."
"Let's all get back to the beach. Then we can decide what to do." he said. He didn't want to say in front of Gwen, or even Ana, but it was looking less likely that Jake was alive.

He grasped Ana's hand tightly, supressing a pained groan as he was lifted to his feet. "Thank you." he nodded. He could tell Ana almost smiled, but didn't. He could see her eyes were smiling. So he smiled for her, and then looked at the rest of the group.

"Other than hurting like a bitch, how is it?"
"Well, it bleeds a lot less." he said, trying his best to sit up. "It's fine. Good enough to get back to camp, at least."

"Perhaps we should pack everything up. Make sure we're ready to set off as soon as Ana returns, I gather she's not a morning person."
"Yes, I think we've spent long enough in this jungle." he agreed, sitting up as far as his wounded leg would permit him. He looked around him, wondering where Ana had gotten to exactly.

"Perhaps they're off conferring about our next move. No need to panic just yet."
"Well, all right. For now, I'm just interested in-" He began to sit up, accidently straining his leg. Pain ripped through him, and he let out a short, pained groan. He sighed. "That was a bad idea."

"I hate to wake them but we need to get moving. I'm sure Ana will...wait, where is Ana?"
He lifted his head slightly, looking around. "Good point. Where is she?"

"Then again you did voluntarily place yourself at the center of my and Ana's dispute, driven by a sense of chivalry or perhaps masochism...."
"Oh, definately masochism." he said simply, nodding in agreement. Copying her, he also looked up at the tree canopy.

"And it's likely you'll be spending a lot of time there till you've recovered. Y'know, if you wanted out of firewood-gathering duty so badly, all you had to do was ask. No need to get yourself seriously wounded...."
He chuckled lightly. "Yes, I foresee lots of lying around shrouded in a blanket of everlasting boredom."

"Never thought I'd long for the peace and tranquility of my makeshift shelter on the beach."
"I have to agree with that." he said. "All of a sudden, the shelter I made from a mix of travel bags, blankets and pieces of anything sounds very appealing."

"How are you feeling?"
He looked over at her. He kept his tone low. "Like I've been shot through the leg with an arrow, screamed at by an incompetent nurse and then made to sleep in a jungle." he said simply, with a little, kind smile. "Otherwise, I'm fine. Thank you. Did you sleep well? Or as well as is possible in the middle of a jungle?"

Severin hadn't slept particularly well. Or, to be more accurate, he hadn't slept. Every slight movement to try and get less uncomfortable had resulted in more jabs of pain. It was very difficult to sleep when your body was racked with it. Pain was worse when you concentrated on it, so the mind had to work to lessen the agony. And when your mind was working, it was harder to sleep, especially when there was nothing to do but wait for morning.
Still, every so often he'd look over at Gwen and feel a little more comfortable that she was there. That she didn't see him as some injured cripple she was obliged to take care of, but because she was a good person and felt guilt that she shouldn't. And then he looked over at her as he woke up, almost as an instinct. He realized he probably didn't look particularly handsome. He probably had unflattering stubble and heavy bags under his eyes. Uncombed hair, and God, he probably snored.
But why was he concerned, anyway? He had an arrow through his leg, why the hell was he trying to impress?
He squirmed uncomfortably, and raised his head a little to see who else was awake.

'Did you find any...luggage or anything? Y'know cases,bags...one with a TV show logo on it?'
"A TV show?" he asked, raising his eyebrows. "I'm sorry, I may have. I can't say I've noticed any logos."

'she just doesn't know when to stop talking...anyway I'm sorry about earlier...feeling sick and all...I wasn't much help really was I?'
He squirmed slightly, uncomfortable with being so powerless. "Well, there wasn't much to do." he replied.

He watched as Ruby rushed over, rambled out a whiny monologue, and then rushed off before he could reply. She really was damn annoying, and chances were she didn't even know what she was apologizing for. Still, if he had the chance to patch things up, he could just ignore her as much as possible.
Being stuck with an irritating person was most definately one of the terrible parts of a plane crash.

'How are you doing?
He blinked twice, a little lost in thought as Nikki brought him back. "Sorry? Oh...oh, I'm all right, thank you." he said.
"Listen, I know you think you're the good guy in all this and Ruby is damn annoying, but, well, your record for figuring out what you would need today is a little on her side, don't ya' think? Don't say anything, just think about it for now, bucko."
Walter was right. Ruby was damn annoying. But he was also right in the sense that it probably wasn't wise to argue with her, when what he needed was her to fix his leg. He felt slight hints of guilt at the lack of gratitude he felt, but they were quickly banished by her constant, selfish babbling.

"Right, then, I'll leave this water with you. Try to get some rest; I'll be back in a bit."
He nodded, not satisfied with her answer. But he knew she wasn't about to spill her worries to him under the circumstances. "All right. Thank you." he said encouragingly.

"Unless you need anything else, Darling, I think I'll go and help Ana find some firewood, Perhaps keep her mind off the homicidal thoughts that might be running through it..."
He noticed the slight change in her expression, the weak smile that didn't quite match her eyes. "Are you all right?" he asked, concerned.

"What about all that 'beautiful soul' business this morning? I suppose you say that to all your artist models..."
"Yes, it's a very practised line. Although the usual effect is to get the model to sit still..." he said with a wry smile.

"Ipso facto, it's my fault."
"Nonsense." he breathed, his chest slowly moving up and down.
"I don't know about you, but I will be very glad to get back to Jack. I've a distinct feeling nurse Ruby doesn't like me very much. And what exactly is it that I'm meant to be up to?"
"I'm in complete agreement." said Severin, his tone lowered so that only he and Gwen could hear. "And I honestly don't know what you're meant to be up to." He closed his eyes briefly as he felt her dab his face gently. He then opened his eyes again, and said sarcastically, "Although she clearly knows you better than anyone, so perhaps I should be worried."
