KATE
She paused a moment in thought. Nobody deserved to die like that, not even after what he'd put her through, not that she blamed him for doing his job. She'd always harbor a resentment toward him for not agreeing to stop his chase after she pleaded with him, wanting to start a new life with Kevin. But again, it was her fault for getting so close to someone.
Finally, she voiced what everyone on the beach who'd had to listen to the marshal had been thinking. "Can't you put him out of his misery?"

KATE
You didn't have to be a doctor to know that what Jack described as the symptoms were bad. Kate watched in surprise as he just stormed out of the tent and left her there. He seemed so angry at her and almost detached. She was confused and stormed after him.

"So what are you going to do about it?" she shouted above the sound of rain. "About him," she clarified, gesturing toward the tent. There was no point in dancing around the issue. Everyone on the camp knew the fate of the man in the tent. He'd been keeping everyone on edge with his moans of pain. "Will he suffer? Will it be quick?"

KATE
Kate had been losing consciousness and any hopes of living along with it. She was giving up the fight. Then Jack came in and Kate's will to hang on and fight was back in full force. As soon as Jack had pried Ed's hands off her neck, Kate sucked in a deep breath and crawled away backward until she came up against the tent. She took in huge gulps of air between coughs. The lightheaded feeling was slowly receding and with her attention off the fact that she couldn't breath, the pain on both the outside and inside of her throat was coming to the surface. Kate watched as Jack tried to get the marshal under control. She thought her presence was forgotten until Jack turned to her.
"What did you do?"
Kate looked at him in surprise. What did she do? "I was just checking to see if he was--" Another coughing fit overtook her. Her voice was weak and raspy and it sounded strange to her own ears. Once again, she spoke in a quiet, raspy voice, trying to defend herself. "He jumped on me. He grabbed me." She looked at the marshal who was currently unresponsive. "Is he ... okay?" she asked with concern in her voice. Why she was still concerned, she did not know. Maybe because she felt they had some kind of history. Maybe it was also the fact that it was ingrained in her to cover all tracks and not showing concern for the wellbeing of someone who's supposed to be a stranger might raise some questions. Yes, the man had just tried to kill her so the only logical excuse she could think of, if she needed to try to explain further, was that it was a temporary lapse of sanity due to the fever.

KATE
Kate barely held back a scream of surprise when his eyes snapped open so suddenly. Before she had time to register anything, his hands had shot out and he had a surprising grip around her neck. Now Kate couldn't scream, though she wanted to. She fought for breath as she clawed at his hands, her eyes open wide in fear and surprise. She tried pulling away from his grasp but it only resulted in her falling backward. His hold did not loosen. Instead, he fell with her, pinning her underneath him. She couldn't move, couldn't yell out for help.
With one hand still trying to pry at Edward's fingers, she reached around her for something but her hands found nothing. She couldn't even reach the tent flat to yank at it to try and get someone's attention. She was starting to see spots dancing in front of her eyes as she used both hands again to try and loosen the death grip but she was starting to feel weak.
There were so many times during the years of cat and mouse they'd played that Kate had gotten the feeling that if he could just get his hands on her, he'd love nothing more than to throttle her. But back in the real world where laws existed, he'd held himself in check. Here on this island, there were no laws. The one place she had a shot at starting over was the one place he could get away with squeezing the life out of her. He was not long for this world, she knew that, and because of it, she'd thought she'd won their game. Kate felt her hope for a tabula rasa fading away as he was slowly becoming the victor.

KATE
She watched Hurley rush away. Instead of standing there wasting time trying to figure out what had gotten into him, she took a quick look around, making sure nobody was watching, then slipped into the tent.
Kate knelt down beside Edward and watched him. He was not looking good. So pale and lifeless. She moved closer, trying to find signs of life, almost afraid that he was dead but the very slight rise and fall of his chest proved otherwise. she could hear thunder and lightening outside. A storm was coming in and fast.

KATE
Kate turned to look in the direction Hurley had nodded, unaware that that gun tucked in the back of her jeans was visible. She didn't even remember it being there as she had so many times had a gun tucked hidden away. "Where, in the fuselage?" she asked. She turned back to Hurley, wondering slightly about him. He was definitely interesting and seemed a bit on edge. She wasn't being hostile or short with him. If so, she could have changed her tone a bit to make him more at ease. The only other thing she could think of was that perhaps he wasn't good at talking to women and there wasn't exactly anything she could do about that.

KATE
She stopped short, resisting the reflex to almost attack and run at being taking so off guard as she almost crashed into a guy. A very big guy with curly hair that women would be jealous over. "Hey, sorry," she said with a friendly smile. She held out her hand. "I don't think we've met yet. I'm Kate." She needed an excuse for coming here and fast. "I'm looking for Jack and I thought he might be in there," she said, nodding toward the shelter.

KATE
***enters from Sawyer's Shelter***
Kate paused a ways away from the tent to look around. Good, nobody was looking. She headed to the opening, looking around as she did so.

Jack's Shelter Location found in box F3 below: Each box is 3 miles by 3 miles. It takes an hour to walk 3 miles. But also keep in mind that hiking (like that really steep hill to get to higher ground) will take a heck of a lot longer and that if you're running (like from some jungle thing), that you'll get somewhere faster.
