Gwen's Shelter Location found in box G3 below: Each box is 3 miles by 3 miles. It takes an hour to walk 3 miles. But also keep in mind that hiking (like that really steep hill to get to higher ground) will take a heck of a lot longer and that if you're running (like from some jungle thing), that you'll get somewhere faster.

She opened her eyes slowly, trying to avoid the assault of bright sunlight. She stretched her arms over her head and carried the stretch through her legs, finding every muscle had the dull ache of soreness. Whether it was from all the running the previous day, or sleeping on the sand, she couldn't tell. The thin airplane blanket was hardly a suitable mattress.
She sat up and looked outside to see a few people already starting to mill about. Morning people--annoying in any part of the world. She caught a glint in the corner of her eye and looked over to see the sunlight reflecting off the pilot's wings sitting on the sand beside the blanket. She had placed the pin there to look at it, the last thing she'd seen as she fell asleep. She picked them up again, turning them over and over in her hand. He'd died without knowing how she felt, simply because she was scared. And of what? Him saying "no"? It seemed so trivial now.
She placed the pin safely underneath her pillow and got to her feet. She needed new clothes, needed a bath. And seawater might even be purer than the water back home in LA. As for clothes...perhaps the abandoned luggage contained a few things in a size 6. She got to her feet and ran a hand through her hair, stepping outside and heading toward the now-burnt hulk that was the fuselage.

***Gwen enters from G4 - Beach and Shore***
She ducked into her tent and tossed the beach towel aside, placing her discarded clothes in a neat pile in the corner. Why she even bothered to fold them, she wasn't really sure. Where and how would they do any laundry out here? She was reminded of the time she and her sister backpacked through Europe, standing over sinks in youth hostels and rinsing out their clothes. They'd been so relieved to find an actual washer and dryer at the dorms in Innsbruck that they'd jumped for joy. Those days seemed so long ago, she thought with a sigh.
She dug through her carry-on for her make-up bag, pulling out a comb and running it through her still-damp hair. Pulling the chestnut strands up into a loose ponytail, she opened the powder compact and hazarded a glance in the mirror. And then quickly snapped it shut again. She quickly applied some sunscreen to her face and bare arms, snatched up the bottle of water that Ethan had given her the day before and retrieved a protein bar from the front pocket of her bag, unwrapping it and taking a few bites as she headed back out into the sun. Time to get to work.

***Gwen enters from G3 - Area of Survivor's Camp***
When she arrived back at her tent, she noticed that the landscape had changed somewhat. She had a new neighbor in Cyrus, who was busily working on a weapon of some sort. Unsure what had prompted the move, and not exactly in the mood to ask about the goddess he'd ditched her for that morning, she gave him a friendly "Hello, neighbor!" before ducking into her own tent.
For a few moments, she tried to lie down but her mind wouldn't cooperate. Still crowded with the thoughts of things she should be doing, which she'd just promised Ethan she would take a break from. She needed to keep her mind occupied. She retrieved a crossword puzzle book, her reading glasses and a pencil from her bag, and laid the beach towel out across the opening of her shelter. Lying on her stomach and perched on her elbows, she opened the book of word puzzles in front of her, distracted only slightly by the waves and the passing people.
37 Across: Belgian Port. She pondered, tapping the end of her pencil against the ground.

For a while, Gwen thought she'd never fall asleep but exhaustion had finally overtaken her. The growing brightness outside told her a new day had dawned. A day that seemed peaceful and quiet so far.
She finally relented to a state of being awake and rolled onto her back, looking intently at the pilot's wings in her hand. Hoping that the hiking party would return soon, without incident and with good news. If they didn't, people would have to start thinking about this temporary situation as a long-term one--a thought that some would not readily accept. Gwen sincerely doubted her own ability to adapt to life on an island. She'd had to rely on others for most things, especially Ethan.
She closed her eyes and let out a lungful of air. Ethan--who'd referred to her as beautiful, and whom Willo was convinced had a crush on her. And Grace supposing that she had a thing for Jake. And her own foolish concerns about Sayid's safety during the night, when he certainly hadn't given her a second thought. The man had far more important things to worry about than a ditzy flight attendant with a schoolgirl crush. And so did she, to be honest. She grazed a thumb over the silver pin. Eric's pin. She shouldn't even be thinking about anyone else. She couldn't.
But she did need to have a chat with Jasmine about her and Sarah's discovery in the jungle. Not just yet, though; she'd let the girl sleep in a bit longer before interrogating her. Gwen turned back onto her side and closed her eyes again.

Too preoccupied with thoughts of everything that needed to be done, she realized she wouldn't be able to get back to sleep. Luggage sorting, water rationing, watching and waiting for the hiking party to return. She might as well just get up.
She changed into some new clothes, threw some water on her face and did a quick brush through her hair before pulling it back into a ponytail. Time to face another day...

***Gwen enters from G3 - Fuselage***
Having secured a bottle of water and another mango for what amounted to dinner around here, she settled into her shelter to get at least a few hours of rest. She dug through her bag for the worn copy of Dennis Lehane's Shutter Island that traveled everywhere with her, and opened the book to the place where the fake leather Rohan bookmark rested.
She knew how it ended, of course; she'd read it at least five times. But everytime she did, she noticed some new detail, some small clue that had escaped her attention before. And somehow it felt safe to be with these characters in their reality rather than here. Because on that island, she knew the lines, anticipated the moves, perceived everyone's ulterior motives. Not like on this island where she felt lost in every sense of the word.
This was her anchor, her port in the storm, along with the crossword puzzle. Perhaps she'd even loan it to Sawyer after he was done with his current book as a peace offering. And then quickly dismissed that thought with a stifled laugh and a shake of her head. Right then, chapter 8...

She was so absorbed in the story that she wasn't even aware of a presence outside her shelter until she heard Ethan's voice. "Oh, hi," she said, quickly removing her glasses and smiling up at him. "How is everything? I hope you're not cursing my name with every breath. I didn't mean to volunteer you like that; I just thought since you were already doing that sort of work, you might..."
She waved her hand toward him. "Anyway, please come in. I'm afraid I don't have tea or...anything, really," she smiled weakly. "I'm an awful hostess."

"No, no, it's no problem. I might start charging soon, though."
"Anyway, please come in. I'm afraid I don't have tea or...anything, really," she smiled weakly. "I'm an awful hostess."
He laughed a little. "No tea? I'm disappointed." he stated. "I'm just checking to see how things are going, how you're doing. If I drop by without a real reason again, I think it's stalking."

"I know! An Englishwoman without tea--it's one of the greatest tragedies of our time," she said, with a slight laugh. "And I'm fine, Ethan. It's just...been a very long day. But thank you for your concern."
She held up her book to show him. "I was just reading this again for the tenth time, hoping it would take my mind off things. It's not really working," she confided.

"Oh? Shutter Island?" he said, reading the cover. "I kinda like Michael Crichton myself. And if that's not working, it looks like the violent hick has a library of books from the plane. I could go nab some for you and annoy him in one swift move if you want."

She rolled her eyes at the mention of him. "No, no. I wouldn't ask you to waste your time on such a futile effort," she remarked. "Sawyer is a...a selfish wanker. You'll never get anything out of him," she declared, not really wanting to discuss how she might be able to make such a claim.
"He's got electronic equipment that Sayid needs, and alcohol that Jack needs, and who knows what else he's got stashed away. Just waiting for us to come begging," she huffed in frustration. "I tried appealing to his sense of decency, but I don't think the man has one. I might as well have been talking to a brick wall."

"Thing is, Gwen, bad boys are just jerks. Sawyer's nothing more than a dumb brute. Don't go putting 'decency' in people that have none." he advised. "And 'begging' doesn't enter into it. I can go get the stuff, no one on this beach needs to beg Sawyer for anything."

"Well, unfortunately the 'dumb brute' had the foresight to gather valuable supplies while the rest of us were otherwise occupied," she sighed, running a hand through her hair. "And he's decided on the barter system of payment--something you want for something he wants. And trust me, you don't want to owe that man anything."
She leveled his gaze at him. "I'm serious, Ethan; it's not worth it," she stated. "He wants to be an outcast, I say we let him..."

"I'm serious, Ethan; it's not worth it," she stated. "He wants to be an outcast, I say we let him..."
He lowered his voice slightly, letting that guy take over for a moment. The guy who killed Tucker McGinnis. The guy who would get things done, one way or another. "I'm not talking about oweing him. I'm talking about taking what we need. No bartering."
He looked into her eyes, the serious look. And he raised his voice back to what it had been before. "All right. If you're serious...sure, no problem. It's not like he could've gotten everything from the crash." he said, lying fluently to her face.

"Well, finally somebody agrees with me," she grinned. The earlier tone of his voice worried her a bit, but she shook it off. Obviously everyone was on edge from the uncertainty.
"And you're right, resourceful as Sawyer may be, he can't have hidden away everything," she agreed. "We'll just have to make due with what we have. Granted, you would be the resident expert on that."

He gave a short laugh. "Mainly due to being volunteered." he smiled. "I'll talk to you later, I'm gonna go see what I can round up before Sawyer goes on another search."

"Mainly due to being volunteered."
"Oi, didn't I say I was sorry about that?" she insisted, giggling. "But you know Sayid appreciates the help. We all do."
"I'll talk to you later, I'm gonna go see what I can round up before Sawyer goes on another search."
"Right," she nodded. "I'll see you later then."
