"I could do the old-fashioned rubbing sticks together, though."
"Well, you're welcome to give it a go. And failing that, we can try to track down Sayid or Charlie. I'm fairly sure they've been handling bonfire duty the past few nights," she explained.

"All right then. If you could find one of them, please, I'll try to start a fire." he dumped the branches down. He knelt down, looking up at her slightly.

She spotted a faint orange glow further down the beach and decided to start her search there. But if Sayid was indeed there, how would she approach him? Sure, he seemed fine with her confession earlier that day. But Ana could have said any number of incriminating things, and he might have had plenty of time to re-think his opinion of her, and maybe she should have given herself more time to completely sober up before mingling with the passengers, and anyway Severin wasn't interested in her internal monologue. She just needed to get the job done.
"Right, yes, will do," she answered when he looked up at her expectantly.
Gathering up a bundle of firewood, she headed down the beach. As she got closer, she could see that it was indeed the beginnings of a fire. And that Sayid was busily arranging branches around it.
"Hi," she began. "Reporting for bonfire duty, sir," she offered with a pleasant smile.

SAYID
"Reporting for bonfire duty, sir,"
He heard the softly accented voice, and smiled at the joke. He looked up at Gwen, and was surprised slightly by the light cast on her face. As if all her beauty just leapt at him at once. He looked back down at the fire, and then stood. "Hello, Gwen. I take it you're helping me with starting more signal fires?"

"Hello, Gwen. I take it you're helping me with starting more signal fires?"
"Well, I have been rather useless these past few days. I thought it was high time I started chipping in," she said in mock seriousness.
"We gathered some firewood before the rain fell, and managed to keep it dry. Severin's starting another fire over by the fuselage, and this bundle of branches can go wherever you think best," she offered.

"That's very thoughtful of you, Gwen. Thank you." he replied, taking the branches from her. "Have you been doing all right?"

"Have you been doing all right?"
"Yeah, I'm fine," she answered with a wave of her hand. "Finding it rather difficult to shift out of flight attendant mode, but I gather you can relate," she remarked sympathetically, in reference to his efficient issuing of orders that morning. "Have people been helpful so far? With the rationing and all that?"

"Finding it rather difficult to shift out of flight attendant mode, but I gather you can relate,"
He knew what she meant, but he still smiled, saying, "Yes, I'm finding it difficult to live without my air stewardess uniform."
"Have people been helpful so far? With the rationing and all that?"
"It's been rather unsteady. People start to help, then quickly try and drop their job for someone else to do." he said in a tone of regret. "However, some people have been very helpful, and have worked non-stop." He smiled gently at her, and then looked back at the pile of firewood.

"Yes, I'm finding it difficult to live without my air stewardess uniform."
"Oh, haha, very funny. I see someone's sense of humor is still intact," she observed wryly.
"However, some people have been very helpful, and have worked non-stop."
She shrugged. "Yeah, well, some people don't have a compulsion to keep themselves distracted. Believe me, I'd love nothing more than to think of this as an unplanned holiday. Lucky for you, I'm a workaholic," she said simply. "And I'm certain no one wants to think of this as a long-term situation. Despite any and all evidence to the contrary. They're content to bide their time, waiting for rescue. Or waiting to hear that you've fixed the transceiver. No pressure or anything..."

He sighed slightly. He couldn't tell her it was looking hopeless. "The transceiver is...presenting a challenge." he said cautiously. "You'll be the first I'll tell if...when I fix it."

"Sounds good," she nodded. "So is this the sort of work you did? Back in Iraq?"

"So is this the sort of work you did? Back in Iraq?"
"I was a communications officer, and yes, this sort of technical expertise was something I was trained in." he replied calmly. Communications officer. A nice lie.

Her eyebrows flicked upward, impressed. "Fortunate for us, then," she said. "Do you still have family there? In the country? I mean, it must be very worrying."

"I haven't spoken to them for a while." he said quickly and simply. "How is your family? I think it goes without saying that they must be quite worried about you."

"Ah, no, actually that's not really a given at this particular moment," she said hesitantly, looking away to the moon reflected on the sea.
"My father and I had a falling-out at my sister's wedding just before I left Sydney, and he was the only one I was still speaking to. My mother and sister...well, we parted ways long ago. Nothing like a wedding to bring all the family dysfunction to the forefront," she sighed.

G4 - Beach and Shore
Vivian
When she reached the Area she placed the wood down , she looked around at everyone. Trying to mark the friendly from the Unfriendly, that what Vivian does. Just to make sure. Kneeling down she started to make a smaller Signal fire, and hopefully it would build… first she would need fire…

"After all, family is family."
"Yeah, can't live with 'em, can't...live with 'em," she remarked, with a weak smile. "So, anyway, this fire seems to be burning okay." She glanced at the existing fire which was steadily growing from the small glow that it had been at first. "Where shall we place the next one?" she asked.

"Where shall we place the next one?"
"Perhaps further along, near more of the shelters." he advised, picking up the spare branches.

"Right," she nodded, starting back toward the fuselage and the shelters beyond it. "So...any word on Jack's patient? The last time Jake and I spoke with the doctor, he just said the man was in critical condition."
