The crash site where the mid-section of the plane, or fuselage, is located, as well as the area surrounding the fuselage. Location found in box G3 below: Each box is 3 miles by 3 miles. It takes an hour to walk 3 miles. But also keep in mind that hiking (like that really steep hill to get to higher ground) will take a heck of a lot longer and that if you're running (like from some jungle thing), that you'll get somewhere faster.

THE HIKING PARTY WALKS OUT OF THE JUNGLE BACK INTO THE FUSELAGE AND SURROUNDING AREA KATE Kate gave a sigh of relief as they stepped back onto the beach. Their return trip had had no threats and was much quieter than the trip up. Her mind had been occupied mostly with what they'd learned about the transceiver and distress call and she suspected it was weighing heavily on the minds of the other hike party members. They'd all agreed to keep what they'd heard to themselves so as to avoid taking away the hope of the other survivors. Keeping secrets was Kate's specialty but there was one person she had to tell, for the simple fact that nearly everyone looked to him to make the decisions. Kate didn't see Jack nearby so she decided to follow Sayid to listen to what he'd tell the people. Chances were good that Jack would make an appearance alongside the rest of the survivors as everyone had been anxious to find out what happened.

Ana-Lucia hadn't slept very well, plagued by nightmares and sub-concious anxiety. During the darkest hours of the night, she'd gotten up to the call of nature and slipped into the trees surrounding the small camp the hike group had made. While she was gone, an arguement had started up in camp. And as she made her way back, it became clear that Boone had taken the dismantled gun from Sayid and Sawyer, much to Sawyer's protests. Warily, she crept to the edge of the camp, watching silently as the scene unfolded before her. She wanted to observe Boone without him knowing, to see if there was more to it than him just wanting to keep guard. It occured to her that she really didn't know much about him or his sister. He didn't seem the type to want to lead or take charge, so it struck her as odd that he might pull such a stunt.
The group had decided that Kate should be the one to take the gun, and just as Ana was about to step in and give her two cents worth, she realised no-one even noticed she was gone. Was it even worth her saying anything? Would they listen? she thought. So she stayed where she was and simply watched like a shadow amongst the trees, as they all resigned themselves back to their respected beds. For a long time, she stayed put. Waiting and wondering if anyone had the nerve to take the gun from Kate, but no-one did. They all trusted her enough to leave it be.
Ana-Lucia trusted her enough not to mention the gun on the hike back to camp in the morning, but not so much that she didn't keep her in sight the whole time. She stayed quiet for the most part, avoiding Charlie as best she could so she didn't get drawn into another fight. It was too early and she was too tired to want to trade words with anyone. She just kept her mind on the prospect of returning to the familarity of the beech and the slightest hope that in their abscense, rescue had arrived. But it hadn't. And in all honesty, she wasn't surprised.
She found a quiet spot on the sand and sat herself down, resting her forearms on her knees. The soft lull of the ocean's waves lapping at the shore was a welcome sound, and she closed her eyes, trying to block out everything else and have a moment to herself.

BOONE
He sighed in relief as he made his way across the beach, near the fuselage. He was still with the group, but what he really wanted was to find somewhere to rest for a while. He was tired, disappointed, and a bit shook up by the past events. He waited with group to see if he would be needed.
BEN
Finally we reached the beach. It was almost odd, I knew no one there, and yet it felt so familiar, it was the closest to home I could get with out actually going home. My legs were killing me, it really had been a rough hike. It was gravely disappointing to find out it was for nothing, and that any other effort we make to go home would be foiled. Although my hope was fading, I certainly hadn't lost it, and I was willing to do what ever it took to get off this island now more then ever.

***Gwen enters from G3 Camp***
"Kate, hi! Welcome back," she smiled as she approached her, quickly scanning the faces of the other hikers. They all looked exhausted. "How did it go? Any luck?" she inquired in what she hoped was a casual and not needy tone.

He remained silent as Gwen addressed the second woman, who'd been on the hike. Kate.
He glanced around him at those who'd been on the hike. The ones he knew, the ones he didn't.
Two siblings. A young, handsome a little shorter than his Paris Hilton sister. He dimissed them both instantly. As he did for the brooding British man, the boy and the short, weedy-voiced man with the long neck. There two people who stood out from the rest, though.
The first was a slouching man, whom he recognised as Sawyer, the prick who'd fought with Sayid. He felt a brief surge of anger, and looked to the second.
The second was...Ana-Lucia, wasn't it? Attractive, but with a scowl and a general demeanour that...put him off. Put him on edge, a little, even. He looked back to Gwen and Kate.

KATE
"Thanks," Kate said with a small tired smile. Her smile faded at Gwen's question. "Well, not like we'd hoped. We weren't able to get a signal for technical reasons beyond me. Sayid's the expert in that area and he's volunteered to give a speech about it," Kate easily lied. She put on a reassuring smile. "Don't lose hope though. Sayid's mind has been working non-stop on possible solutions."

"Don't lose hope though. Sayid's mind has been working non-stop on possible solutions."
"Oh, okay," Gwen nodded, trying to process the news. "That's...good, I guess."
Then her mind turned to what had really been worrying her about all of them being away, and she lowered her voice to lean in closer. "Any more signs of...it along the way?" she asked.

KOJO
***Kojo arrives from G4 - Beach and Shore***
He approached the group, but it seemed a couple of them were already in conversation. He made his way over to a man who stood just outside the group. He was a tall man, with a long, thin neck. Kojo knew he wasn't on the hike, but perhaps he could get some information from him, "Excuse me," he said as he approached them, "Did they find help?" Kojo asked with his voice lowered so that he wouldn't interrupt the two women.

Ana-Lucia's mind wandered back to what had happened yesterday. The French woman's broadcast. She'd tried not to think about it during the hike back, but with so little conversation to distract her, she'd found it nigh on impossible not to dwell on it.
She opened her eyes again to the familiar setting. The waves lapping against the shore, the fire ravaged wreckage, the tall guy staring at her. The tall guy staring at her? She did a double take, scowling at him yet wondering if she had something stuck to her face at the same time. Whatever he was looking at, he quickly turned back to Kate and Gwen's conversation. Something about him pricked at the back of her mind, but she figured she was just tired from the trek so dismissed it easily.
Seeing Gwen again instantly reminded her of Jake, and she decided to get away from everyone who'd she'd been annoyed by the last twenty four hours and go find him. Perhaps he'd be able to take her mind off the hopelessness of the situation.
The group had agreed not to tell any of the other survivors what had happened. Though she had a feeling Jack, at least, would find out eventually. It seems, everyone found him trustworthy enough to lead, that maybe he should be kept in the loop. Then there was Jake, the other man she felt close to on the island. She was unsure whether or not to mention anything about the hike to him, though she wanted to confide in him all the same. The polar bear, the transmission that had played for sixteen years. How did you bring those things up in a normal converstion?
Yeah, we were unable to send for help because we seem to be in the Bermuda Triangle?
But then, she felt sure Jake would ask if they'd managed to send a distress call and Ana had no idea of another reason why they hadn't been able to. She mulled it over and decided to play it by ear, see what kind of mood he was in before she told him there was no hope.
Slipping her shoes and socks off her weary feet and discarding them in the sand, she made her way down to the shoreline, wanting to soothe them in the cool waters of the ocean while she wandered up the beach in search of the guy with a hole in his shoulder.

***Severin enters***
He was glad that Sayid would be the one announcing their...discovery. He'd never been good with crowds, and he had enough of his own worries. Worries that were beginning to catch up with him. If you bottle things up, take everything with a straight face, and refuse to deal with your emotions....your fears caught up with you. Weighed you down.
There was the thought of never seeing Leonora again. So who would take care of her? And then there was everything else...how could he possibly survive here? How could any of them? They would starve to death. Die in the heat. They were in a situation that couldn't look bleaker. A plane crash was traumatic enough (not that he couldn't deal with trauma, he'd had his fair share) but there was the prospect of being...stuck. Stranded on an island with a group of strangers, ripped away from those he loved and forced to live in this...place...with sounds in the jungle, a recording on a loop for 16 years and polar bears.
Polar bears.
And again, he found himself pushing it out of his mind.

"No. Odd excuse of 'technical difficulties'. They haven't announced it yet." he replied.

He turned back to Gwen and Kate, and noticed something out of the cornor of his eyes. Ana-Lucia? Staring at him?
She left quickly, but the feeling made him shiver slightly, and he folded his arms. Ana-Lucia, those eyes, and the stare, quite simply, creeped him out.

KATE
Kate took a discreet look around to make sure nobody was listening in, then answered Gwen in a likewise lowered voice. "The thing knocking down trees? No, thank God, we did not run into that thing." She wasn't sure if she should make mention of the polar bear that had charged them, nor did she know exactly how to go about telling someone about it. A polar bear... on a tropical island. Who would believe that?

Sayid was tired from the trip back, but made no hesitations to gather everybody around that had shown up to hear about what had happened to them. It had been agreed that he would break the news to everyone, and so he stood up on a piece of the wreckage so everyone could see where his raised voice was coming from. He took a moment, and then began to make the group's annoucement about their discovery.
"As you and the others know, we hiked up the mountain in an attempt to help the rescue team locate us. The transceiver failed to pick up a signal. We weren't able to send out a call for help. But we're not giving up. If we gather electronic equipment - your cell phones, laptops - I can boost the signal and we can try again, but that may take some time. So for now, we should begin rationing our remaining food. If it rains, we should set up tarps to collect water. I need to organize 3 separate groups. Each group should have a leader. One group for water - I'll organize that. Who's going to organize electronics? You? Rationing food? Okay. And I believe a third group should concern themselves with the construction of. . ."
He continued organising groups in this manner, picking a select few people who volunteered for each group. With any help, designating people into groups to carry out tasks would work...

He listened to what Sayid had to say. No signal. He sighed inwardly, scratching his forehead. He looked up, and sighed outwardly. No signal, no nothing. Try again? Why would that work?

"The thing knocking down trees? No, thank God, we did not run into that thing."
"Well, that's a relief," she said, giving Kate a weak smile. "Thankfully it seems that everyone has been satisfied with staying on the beach and out of that thing's way. Well...almost everyone."
She listened intently as Sayid made his announcement. Relaying the news that no signal had been sent, that he would keep trying, that it would take time. Things she was already well aware of, but hearing it from him made it seem more real. And she saw the faces of the crowd around them growing more despondent with every word.
"I need to organize 3 separate groups. Each group should have a leader. One group for water - I'll organize that. Who's going to organize electronics? You?"
Gwen raised her hand like an overeager schoolchild. "I will!" she declared. "I mean, I've already made a start," she added in justification, feeling curious stares directed at her.
