KATE
Kate was also quick to get up. Now what? she sighed as she worked her way toward the front of the group. Without Jack here, it was chaos and someone had to try and fill in for him. How would Jack handle this?
"What is going on?" she asked in an authoritative tone.

As I neared, I slowed my steps and stayed at the back of the group where I could peak between the people in front of me and just make out the voices. It was understandable that tension would be high after a plane crash, but geez, the amounts of fights, yelling, panicking... it was probably more drama than any reality show could hope for.

KATE
"He's just going to have to make time." Even if I have to make him, she mentally added. "He can't go on like this. It'll kill him."
"We thought we had a lead. We checked it out. I... Turns out it was a bad lead." More like she'd made an ass of herself and let Sawyer get the better of her again but she was not about to admit that. "Tomorrow morning, bright and early, I'll head out into the jungle. See if I can find a water source." And Jack, if he didn't return before then.

KATE
Kate settled down in the sand in the empty spot next to Locke. She drew up her knees and hugged them to her. "I'm glad he's taking a break. He's been looking worn down lately and any time I try to tell him to get some sleep, relax... he just brushes it off and rushes away to go help someone else. The jungle's not a good place to be wandering around though." She paused and watched the flames. "But it's probably the only place where people won't be able to approach him with some new problem every five minutes."

KATE
She'd kept herself busy all day and trying not to worry about Jack. Where had he gone to? She found herself looking for him all day but to no avail. Locke had gone after him into the jungle and now Kate saw Locke by the fire with Gwen, still no Jack in sight. By now she was really worried and past the point of trying not to make her concern obvious.
"John? Sorry to interrupt," she said to Gwen forcing a small smile before looking back to Locke with concern. "Did you find Jack?"

"Oh man," I said to myself with a sigh. That little girl sure got into trouble fast. "That would be me. I'll go straight over." I gave an apologetic look to the group. "Sorry guys, I'm gonna have to take a rain check. Here." I handed the knife and plate to Jasmine and then rushed off toward the sandcastle.

"Sorry," I said sheepishly. "I'm so used to rushing around all my life. I'm not used to being stranded on an island with all the time in the world. But it's probably best I don't get used to it. Rescue has got to be here soon," I said hopefully. "They've had nearly six days to figure out what happened with the plane--where it disappeared to."
I gave a smile to the group as we reached them. "Hey! Got the knife and a plate." Getting tired of the introduction thing and not sure who'd met who yet, I made the introductions short, gesturing toward each as I named them off. "Jasmine, G, Cyrus." The group had lost two since I left. "Where'd Gwen and Ray go?"
((ooc: Sorry if I left anyone out. I think it was just me and G who'd gone to join Gwen, Ray, and Jasmine.))

I'd slowed so Cyrus could catch up beside me but remained quiet, waiting for him to break the silence as we continued to our destination. A nice ocean breeze swept past and a content smile spread across my face as I breathed it in deeply. After spending so much time in the hot sun, that breeze had been heaven.

I rolled my eyes at G. "Okay, I'm gonna go find the knife Locke left for all of us to use out of his collection of 15,000 and a plate--or plate-like object--so we can cut up those mangoes before you can traumatize anybody else with 'em," I teased. "Be right back, guys," I said to the group as I wandered toward the last place I remembered seeing the knife.

"Oh, you guys, this is..." I did a double take at G and nearly joked on laughter. So juvenile and yet hilarious. "Dude!" I finally said when I was able to with a light smack on his arm. "You certainly like to make an unforgettable first impression. Guys, this is G... as in 'today's show was brought to you by the letter 'G''. G, this is Gwen, Jasmine, and Ray," I said as I gestured to each of them.

"Well I'm just glad he's okay. That all of you are okay. Did you guys find--what were you guys doin' out there?" I asked after realizing I had no idea what would possess people to stay overnight in the jungle.

"Alrighty then," I said as he headed toward the jungle area. I shrugged and headed over to Gwen, Jasmine, and Ray. "Hey guys," I said with a smile before looking back at Gwen with a worried expression. "Gwen, I heard Severin got hurt. Is he okay?"

I caught sight of Gwen and my laughter faded away as I recalled hearing about their night in the jungle and Severin being injured. "Oh, there's Gwen. I'm gonna see if everything's okay," I said as I stood up and brushed the sand off the back of my pants. I hesitated, feeling bad about walking away from someone I'd just met and was carrying the most conversation with out of the group, so I said, "Have you met those three yet?" with a nod in their direction. "I can introduce you. Besides, they might be hungry and those saltines would be a great ice breaker."

"I get it, I get it," I quickly interrupted before he dropped the 'F' bomb. Again I laughed. "God, I haven't laughed this much in a long time," I said as I wiped away a tear of laughter. "What do you do back home?" Stand-up comedian or writer for a comedy series were my first two guesses.

I found myself laughing at his quick, witty rebuttals. It was a great feeling to momentarily forget our situation and to just laugh.
"My friends don't name everyone after letters," he said. "Just, well, me.... and CF."
"Aw," I said in mock disappointment. I wasn't sure if that last bit was bait for another witty comment or he was just making mention but either way, I had to ask. "Who's CF?"

I barely suppressed a giggle though I couldn't stop my smile. "I'm Heidi... But to your friends I guess I would be H. Anaheim. West side. Hm, wouldn't exactly strike fear into any hearts," I added as an aside. "And yes, very nice of you to share," I said in agreement with Ruby's statement.

I knew Willo was a writer but by the way the pencil was moving, it looked like he was drawing. I found myself discreetly trying to take a peek at his notebook, wondering if he was a decent artist when a new shadow was cast signifying someone had joined the group.
And just with those few simple sentences, I knew this guy was one of my favorite type of people; very outgoing, fun... and usually made you feel as if you'd known them for years. Those were the only type of new people I usually didn't feel shy and awkward around because of that feeling of familiarity. Without hesitation, I played along with his scenario.
"We have saltines?" I asked with a feigned hopefulness as if someone had just offered a delicacy.

I noticed that look on Ruby's face when she looked back and forth from Willo to myself. Gah, why is it that all my life, so many people assume I've got something going on with a guy just because I'm friends with him? Leia's departure distracted me enough to forget about it and move on to answer Ruby's question. "Yah, everything's dandy. Well... as dandy as it can be on an island." Oi, now I'm rhyming, I thought, trying not to laugh at myself.
