"I'm serious! You want to find Jake? So do I, so grab my arm!"
"Are you mad?" she gasped. "I push drink trolleys for a living. How am I supposed to fix your arm?"

"You're gonna learn fast, that's how!" She shifted her weight and sat ready to brace herself. Seeing as neither Gwen, nor Ana had fixed a dislocated shoulder before, she could see this being a very painful and drawn out experience. Only the fact that Jake might need help had resolved her mind to attempt it.
"It's wrenched out of the socket, so you're gonna have to pop it back in."

She swallowed hard. Ana with only one fully-functioning arm was probably the safer option for everyone concerned, but if she didn't help her, Gwen felt sure that Ana would just grab a nearby stick and beat her severely before moving on to find someone else. And they had more or less declared a truce in the interests of finding Jake.
She gingerly took hold of Ana's right hand and wrist in both her hands, wishing she had another bottle of alcohol. For herself and for the purposes of anesthetic. "Just...try to relax," she advised.

"Arrggh! Just try to shut up!" She almost slapped her across the face out of reflex. The slightest movement Gwen made to her arm sent a new stab of pain through her muscles. A tiny part of her wondered if she wasn't doing it on purpose.
"Just hurry up and do it!" She yelled, grasping a hold of a small branch that lay nearby and clenching it between her teeth. This was going to hurt.

"Alriiiight," she replied, taking in a deep breath. "And for the record, your face still frightens me." She gave Ana a sly smile, hoping the resultant spark of fury would momentarily distract her from whatever blinding pain that Gwen was about to cause her. And then she abruptly pushed Ana's arm upward and prayed for beginner's luck.

"And for the record, your face still frightens me."
The comment had the desired effect, and if looks could kill, Gwen would be dead on the floor right about now. But the daggers Ana's were shooting at her soon disappeared when Gwen started to push her arm back into it's socket.
A muffled scream of torture came from Ana's mouth, and the branch she was gritting her teeth against nearly split in two. She gripped a hold of Gwen's arm with her good hand, as if just holding on might get her though this. After a long minute of nothing sliding back into place and just before Ana thought she might pass out, she spat the branch from her mouth and screamed for Gwen to give her a break.
"Stop!!!" She breathed heavily, sweat pouring down her face now. Her grip on Gwen relaxed.
"You're really enjoying this aren't you!" She roared at Gwen.

"You're really enjoying this aren't you!"
The scene would have been funny if it didn't look so painful and utterly confusing. He stared for a moment, and then rubbed his forehead in exasperation. "At least you're both talking to each other. Although I think you're missing out the 'civilized' part of having a civilized conversation." He approached closer. "What's happening?"

"You're really enjoying this aren't you!"
"Oh, absolutely. After this, maybe I'll go poke a grizzly bear with a stick or throw rocks at a hornet's nest," she said, letting go of Ana's arm and getting to her feet with a frustrated sigh. "I told you I didn't know what I was doing."
"At least you're both talking to each other. Although I think you're missing out the 'civilized' part of having a civilized conversation...What's happening?"
She smiled with relief when she noticed Severin approaching. "Oh, Severin, I'm so glad to see you. Ana seems to have dislocated her shoulder, and I fear I'm only making it worse," she explained, hoping that such an injury would fall within his military medical training.

"James, right? I'm Heidi,"
James wrenched the wood from its holdings and turned to face this new speaker. He looked her over for a moment, trying to decide whether she was going to cause him grief or not.
"Nice to meet you" he replied. "Unless of course you're part of the Ana-Lucia self defence class, in which case I'd ask you to stay ten metres back at all times".

"Oh, Severin, I'm so glad to see you. Ana seems to have dislocated her shoulder, and I fear I'm only making it worse,"
He smiled pleasantly as she began her sentence, and then the smile faded as she continued. "Dislocated?" he repeated, and walked past Gwen towards Ana. His arms moved out, starting to feel along the joint between Ana's arm and its socket. "How did this happen?"

"How did this happen?"
"I think she lost an argument with a tree," Gwen answered, keeping her distance. "But it doesn't really matter how or why. Do you think you can help her?"

He gentured to the pile of branches on the ground.
"That should be enough to get started. I'm still trying to figure out something for a roof... but you can get started on the frame if you like."
It was odd talking to people from a couple branches in a tree. He paused to wipe off some sweat and looked around. She was gone. Ana had escaped, it seemed. Good riddence. He used the knife to peel off another smaller branch from the tree.

"I think she lost an argument with a tree,"
"You're fucking hilarious." Ana bristled. If Gwen had been within arms reach, she would definately have taken a swipe at her.
"But it doesn't really matter how or why. Do you think you can help her?"
In a way she was glad Severin had turned up, because it was clear he knew more about fixing dislocated shoulders than Gwen. As he examined her arm, she grimaced, watching what he was doing intently. If he couldn't help her out, she would have to go and see Jack.
"Tell me you've done this before, cause I don't think I can take any more amatuer medics right now." She was talking to Severin but was actually looking at Gwen.

"Tell me you've done this before, cause I don't think I can take any more amatuer medics right now."
Gwen simply placed her hands on her hips and looked downward, shaking her head and mentally biting her tongue. She thought she'd been doing Ana a favor by skipping over the whole reason for her injury, since she clearly didn't want to discuss it, but neither the temporary disability nor the bottle of tequila had mellowed her mood at all.
"Severin patched up Jasmine and I'm sure he's seen worse in Her Majesty's Army. He'll have your right hook up and running again in no time," she assured her, trying to project more sympathy than sarcasm.

"But it doesn't really matter how or why. Do you think you can help her?"
"I can." he replied, taking his jacket off and rolling up his shirt sleeves.
"Tell me you've done this before, cause I don't think I can take any more amateur medics right now."
"This isn't the first dislocated shoulder I've put back into place." he explained, failing to mention his last dislocated shoulder had belonged to him. He carefully felt along Ana's arm. Carefully, softly, his fingers slipping around it. "Oh, and Ana....I think you should thank Gwen for even trying. Most people would just leave you and shove this problem onto someone else. And that would be without the bad blood between you."
He grasped the arm a little more tightly, and then gently pushed it upwards and down, sliding it extremely slowly into its socket. He didn't look at either of them as he concentrated and spoke, trying to keep Ana's mind off the severe pain she was no doubt expericning. "And I think a thank you would be a good start to th pair of you becoming inseprable friends. Or at least not trying using insects and insect keepers against each other."
Slow was the way, rather than trying to forcefully shove it in and risk chipping bone. Which it seemed Gwen had done, but only slightly and he wasn't going to mention it.

HEIDI
"Ha, right," I said with a small laugh at the thought of me attempting to kick someone's ass. "Believe me, you've got nothing to worry about. I've never thrown a punch in my life. Hell, I don't think I even know how to properly throw a punch."
I turned to Erik as he answered my previous question. "Alrighty, I'll do that." Switching to work mode, I headed for the pile of branches and started collecting as many as I could in my arms. I noticed Erik pause and look in Ana Lucia's direction and I found myself glancing over only to find a broken belt lying on the ground. "She's gone?" I asked rhetorically. Erik didn't seem the least worried about it so I didn't worried. I shook my head as I continued picking up more branches. "That woman seems so angry every time I see her. She's got some major issues."
She was the polar opposite of myself, it seemed. I came to the conclusion that it was one of those balances in life. She and I would probably never get along for that reason. In fact, she'd probably strangle me for being too cheerful in her presence.

Severin began being much more gentle than Gwen had, though it still hurt like a bitch everytime he moved her arm.
"Oh, and Ana....I think you should thank Gwen for even trying. Most people would just leave you and shove this problem onto someone else. And that would be without the bad blood between you."
Ana gave him a look. Then her gaze turned to Gwen.
"Bad blood between us? Let me guess...you've been regaling Severin with all the details of how I bit your head off yesterday?" Then almost to herself, "Like you're a victim in this..." Severin gripped tighter.
"Ugghh...jeesus!" She cried out as he put more force into manoeuvring her joint. This time she dug her fingernails into the ground beside her, drawing her knees up towards her chest. She could feel a deep scratching feeling like bone catching and it was making her feel sick. The colour started to drain from her face.
"And I think a thank you would be a good start to the pair of you becoming inseprable friends. Or at least not trying using insects and insect keepers against each other."
"You put my arm back in place soon....ugghh.....and i'll start braiding her hair....aargghh...and holding hands!" She managed to get out, her sarcasm still undamaged by the injury.

"Oh, sod off, Ana," she grumbled in reply. "I never said I was a victim. Nor did I appoint myself the island's moral authority, like someone I could mention. I admit I made mistakes, but you were the one running off to gather firewood to burn me at the stake."
She was forced into silence by another gasp of pain and the anguished look on Ana's face as Severin continued to work on her shoulder. She folded her arms and turned away, pacing.
"You put my arm back in place soon....ugghh.....and i'll start braiding her hair....aargghh...and holding hands!"
"Bollocks. Trust me, Severin, the only thing she's interested in braiding is a noose to put around my neck," she remarked.

He sighed a little to himself, and then forgot apart being gentle. He shoved Ana's arm back into her socket roughly. "There. All done. Just don't put a strain on it."

Ana gave her last and loudest scream of pain which completely drowned out the click of her joint returning to it's rightful socket. As Severin let go of her, she slumped to her left side, gripping her right shoulder as if it had been nearly torn off. For a long time, she couldn't speak. Air was just fighting to get back in her lungs. But as the inital agony died away, the relief at having her arm back in place began to overshadow the throbbing.
