KATE
Kate sat in one of the guest chairs in the office of the head of security, her handcuffed hands folded in her lap as she vacantly stared at a spot on the wall. She was trying to block out the voice of Edward Mars. He was a marshal who had finally caught her and was transporting her back to the U.S. and right now, he was trying to provoke her.
She remained calm, still staring at the same spot on the wall, ignoring the people walking to and from flights on the other side of the security mirror and grinding her teeth to maintain a hold of her temper as the marshal continued to bait her.

U.S Marshal Edward Mars waited as the haliburton case was checked.
"Are you going to be armed?" asked the official.
"Yes, sir, ankle holster."
"You have to stow this in the crew luggage compartment in the front."
"No problemo."
"Five guns." said the official as he checked the case. "Why do you need five guns?"
A toothy grin split on his face, and he turned to the chief. "Oh, that's a good story, you want to tell it, Kate?"
He was enjoying this. After all the torture he was put through by her, the escapes, the almost got-hers, the near misses....it had been quite a ride. And sadly anti-climatic that she went back for the guy who ratted her out. He wouldn't have done it. He wasn't sure he'd ever understand her, despite the fact that he thought about her more then his own wife. It had become an obssession. And he still didn't understand her.
Then again, would anyone?

KATE
She sat, staring at that same spot. Her expression still hadn't changed as she continued to act as if he didn't exist. Kate knew that he was baiting her, but she didn't give in. She figured he was trying to get some payback for the merry chase that she'd led him on, outsmarting him several times and always staying one step ahead.

It was good to be in a position of power with her. It was usually her who kept him on his toes.
"She's shy." he smirked.
The official picked up a small, toy aeroplane. "What's this?"
He seized the plane, "This is a good one. his belonged to her childhood sweetheart who she got killed a couple of years ago when she was on the run. Poor guy -- a wife, a 2 year old kid."
He turned back to Kate. Tom Brennen. But he wanted to hurt her just a little bit more. "What was his name? Hmm?" he asked in a tone of fake curiosity.
He turned away from her again, and he grew more angry as he remembered what he was put through. "Well, somewhere along the way during the 3 years I was chasing her, she's starts calling me, at my house, and whining on about her mitigating circumstances."
He started to float the plane with his hand, making it fly close to Kate's face. "But what she's really doing...is taunting me..."
Oh, how he had trapped her. That time he'd almost gotten her in Mexico. He had been so clever. "So, I tell her that I've got whats-him-name's little toy airplane in a safe deposit box in New Mexico."
He looked back to the official, talking faster. Getting past the boring part. The important part was coming up. ". So, she somehow figures out which bank, which safe deposit box. She seduces some idiot to rob the damn bank, and then she puts a bullet in her new friend because she's done using him..."
Looking back at Kate, his tone grew softer. He wasn't telling it to official, he was telling it to her and himself, trying to figure her out one last time. "But she leaves all the money...she just takes the plane because that's the one thing in the whole world that Kate does care about. She has no attachments, and I think she's telling herself she needs it to atone for killing her boyfriend, whats-his-name."
He saw Kate glance at him, and his grin grew wide. Still a criminal, with a lot of hate. And right now all that hate was directed at him. And there was almost nothing more painful then hate you couldn't let free. "God, Kate, c'mon what was his name?"

KATE
Kate's attention inadvertently went to the toy airplane when the supervisor picked it up. She quickly looked back at that spot on the wall. She continued to ignore him but had to bite down harder to do it as he started talking about Tom.
He made the toy plane move along her vision and she couldn't help but follow it with her eyes. It was her one and only link to Tom and she'd never have another since she couldn't go home. Well, she'd finally been caught and was being brought home for trial. But that only would lead her to being locked up with nothing but her memories of Tom and nothing but time to think about his death and how it had been her fault.
At the reminder of Tom, a bit of sadness penetrated the emotionless wall she'd built to keep from taking the marshal's bait. The second time he made mention of Tom, she clenched her fists. The wall had been loosened by that sadness, which was quickly turning to anger. The third time, she glared at him. But then the fourth time, he had such a smug look about him and his tone sounded so derogatory toward Tom's memory that she snapped. Before she knew what she was doing, she had Edward Mars pinned up against the wall by the chain from her cuffed hands.
"His name is Tom, damn you!" she said angrily with a slight hitch in her voice. Tears had started to form in her eyes. The very surprised look on the marshal's face made her a little happier but it also reminded her of what she'd just done. She still held him pinned but her hold loosened as she was distracted by her thoughts.

Without hesitation or mercy, he slammed his elbow into her face. He knew never to take chances with her.
"And that...." he informed the official as he swept up the fallen toy plane. "Is why I need five guns."

KATE
She didn't see it coming and had been knocked off balance, falling onto the floor. The toy plane had also fallen and she reached for it, but Edward snatched it up just as she'd almost had it. She rested her forehead against the cool floor and squeezed her eyes shut, willing away the tears and putting the emotionless wall back up around her.

"Well, Katie. Looks like we have a plane to catch."
He picked up the haliburton case, dropped the toy plane inside and locking it tightly. Tucking the key into his pocket, he pulled her up roughly from the ground.
"Time to go."

KATE
She didn't fight much as he dragged her roughly off the ground and only gave a half-hearted tug at the hand he had clamped on her upper arm.
