Name: My name is Benjamin Linus, usually just Ben. Recent...circumstances have forced me to tell people my name is Henry Gale. Age: I wouldn't tell a lie. Occupation back home: That's a tricky question. Depends on how you define 'home'. And I suppose, how you define 'occupation' Appearance:Nationality: American. Residence: My home on the island. Skills: I'm highly intelligent, and absolutely excellent at manipulation. I can read people. Understand them. It's very rare that someone can conceal something from me. If they do, they get my congratulations. Weaknesses/bad habits: Not the toughest guy ever. I tend to attract abuse like a rag doll. Frequent moods/expressions: Affinity. One of my favorite moods. I'd rather be skillfully detached from the moods of others while silently manipulating their behaviour without them being aware. Reason for flight: I was not on the flight. Item from wreckage: I suppose if I were on the flight, I would have taken my electric shaver, as I detest a scruffy beard. Next would be my walking sandals for the beach.

lostpedia.com/wiki/Henry_GaleMy new fave couple is Benry and Juliet. They're destined for each other. And Juliet is so amazingly hot. And I love the character, I adore her. Theories about Benry and JulietBen and Juliet * Was in a serious relationship (possibly marriage) with Ben but the relationship failed. They seem to have a history together and obviously have some issues. o This is a very probable theory due to a recent issue of TV Guide in which Michael Emerson stated that his wife would be introduced early on in the season. o Ben is mentioned during the book club scene as being a "host" for the book club that session; Juliet also claims to be a host, leading to the suspicion that Ben either lives there or used to live there, with Juliet. * Adam's criticism that Ben would disapprove of Juliet's selection indicates either that Ben is the regular host of the Book Club, or has some personal connection with Juliet such as roommate, boyfriend, husband or brother. o Possibly, other than a relationship between Juliet and Ben, this shows Adam's and the rest of The Others' reverence for Ben and Juliet's displeasure with how Ben runs things (also apparent in the subtext of the final exchange between the two as Juliet leaves the observation room for Jack's cell). + It may also mean that they are the leaders of two different factions within the Others. * Could have some connection to The Real Henry Gale arriving on the island, prompting Ben to ambush/murder him.

Benjamin Linus' eye snapped open, and he squinted slightly, and then blinked, trying to rid himself of the crust that obscured and blurred his vision. He sighed deeply, and as he opened his mouth, it was filled with mattress.
He was lying on his stomach in bed, shirtless in boxers, with a small glass of scotch sitting idly on the dressing table. Slowly, and with a long, mournful groan, he lifted himself from the double bed.
He stood, shivering slightly at the cold feel of the floor beneath his bare feet, and proceeded to the kitchen, ready for some breakfast.
Things had been going....normally. Normal for most of them, for him, it hadn't been going well, not well at all. But no, he wasn't going to think about that, and he certainly wasn't going to try and get drunk like he did last night. Drunkenness bought out the real person, and it certainly wasn't something he indulged in. Alcohol turned the most perfect gentleman into a raving, leering beast, and he sometimes wandered if that was who every man was, deep down under the pretense of civilization. Not him, though, and certainly not here. He was a gentleman, and he took pride in that fact.
* * *
He gently prodded the bacon in the frying pan, and turned the heat up slowly. He was a good cook, always had been, and it came as naturally to him as violence came to Danny.
Daniel Pickett worried him to a great extent. He had shown himself to be violent, and when he was brave enough, disobedient. Yes, he needed to be disciplined from time to time, he certainly did.
But Danny was still a good person, just enthusiastic in certain areas. And Colleen would testify to that.
Colleen. That woman was a Godsend. That is, if God ever sent anyone anything of any worth, which he didn't. Ben had long abandoned the concept of a Christian God. Some good ideas, true. Not that anyone listened to the good ideas. But he was getting distracted again. Colleen.
When a gun was shoved in her face, she wouldn't flinch, she would be logical, calm....the only trouble was her emotional side. He never let anybody in, and was scared of no one, not even Ben. Danny was her only confident, and sometimes Benjamin wondered how much even Danny broke through that shell.
Speaking of shells, one cracked open, and the runny yellow yolk spilled into the blender. Then another.
Then there was Tom. Thomas. Tommy. The Tomster. Easily the friendliest, nicest and most competent in town. Tough but fair, with a sense of humor. And one of the strongest bastards Ben had ever met.
Bea was....complicated. Nice enough, but all business, and hard to communicate with.
Goodwin was competent, strong, focused and...emotional. He was too trusting, but he himself was worthy of a great deal of trust.
Cyrus Eugene Tager was a different story altogether. He was a strong, natural leader, manipulative, and with a dangerous motivation. Power. That's what he wanted. He cared about the people, yes, he just...cared about his own ambition more. And Benjamin Linus did not hold to that. They had clashed several times over leadership decisions. Then there was the human side. He could get involved sometimes, with people he shouldn't.
Ethan was friendly enough, unpopular, a little quiet, but friendly and helpful. And desperate for connection, of any kind. He had almost been with Juliet, but she had refused him. He was heart-broken, but only Ben and Tom knew. Ben, because he could read people and could see past the fake face. And Tom, because he was everyone's best friend, and Ethan was certain to have confided in him. Two years later, and he had stayed her friend. He had even fixed her plumbing the other day.
He got along well with Amelia (although not as of late) and Adam, well...he was a relentless suck-up.
As his breakfast neared completion, he reached for the CD stack, all neatly organized. He changed them from time to time. It used to be alphabetical, and now it was genre. He was about to pick out some Tchaikovsky, but no. He reached for Coldplay. Not exactly uplifting. Just past some Lennon. Then he made his selection.
He lifted the CD, placing it in the tray and pressing play. He then began to get dressed, allowing a small smile to grow on his face as the music built, and before he knew it, he was dancing to one of his best-loved bands. Dancing like nothing had happened.
Carry on my wayward son There'll be peace when you are done Lay your weary head to rest Don't you cry no more
Once I rose above the noise and confusion Just to get a glimpse beyond this illusion I was soaring ever higher But I flew too high
Though my eyes could see I still was a blind man Though my mind could think I still was a mad man I hear the voices when I'm dreaming I can hear them say
Carry on my wayward son There'll be peace when you are done Lay your weary head to rest Don't you cry no more
Masquerading as a man with a reason My charade is the event of the season And if I claim to be a wise man, well It surely means that I don't know
On a stormy sea of moving emotion Tossed about I'm like a ship on the ocean I set a course for winds of fortune But I hear the voices say
Carry on my wayward son There'll be peace when you are done Lay your weary head to rest Don't you cry no more
No!
Carry on, you will always remember Carry on, nothing equals the splendor The center lights around your vanity But surely heaven waits for you
Carry on my wayward son There'll be peace when you are done Lay your weary head to rest Don't you cry (don't you cry no more)
He finished dressing, and rushed to make sure he hadn't destroyed his bacon. No, it was fine. He lifted it with a fork onto his plate, and then dropped it onto the floor. Not due to clumsiness, though. The whole room was shaking.
The music stopped as the whole player slid off the table, crashing onto the floor, and a glass of milk he'd poured shattered into pieces that sprayed across the floor. He quickly headed to the door, standing still and keeping his balance carefully, until the brutal shaking stopped.
There was silence for a moment, and then he could hear voices outside. He rushed to the door, throwing it open and headed into the daylight.
He glanced across the way, and instantly saw Juliet, as beautiful as ever. His first thought was that he hadn't brushed his teeth yet. Without saying a word, he quickly and coldly rushed past her, looking up at the sky. And then he saw it. Soon afterwards...everyone else did too.
A plane. A big one, too. The sounds...they were monstrous. A harrowing screech, followed by a crashing thunderous sound that swooped through the sky down on them as it ripped apart in mid flight, three pieces falling in separate places. His eyes drifted away from the cockpit, looking at the fuselage, and the tail section.
He was shocked, and scared, for a second, just a second. A second was all he would allow himself.
"Goodwin." he glanced down, seeing the handsome, well-built man jog over to him. "Did you see where the tail landed?"
"Yeah. Probably in the water."
"You run, you can make that shore in an hour." he instructed, and turned to another soldier. "Cyrus? Get to that fuselage, there may actually be survivors....and you're one of them."
Back to Goodwin. "A passenger, in shock." To Cyrus. "Think up of an adequate story if they ask, stay quiet if they don't."
He looked more at Cyrus than at Goodwin for his next order. "Don't get involved."
He looked at both of them. "Go."
And with that, they were off, shooting through the jungle. It was unlikely Cyrus would go to the fuselage yet. He was too independent, he'd do what interested him, and Ben regretted his decision straight away. But too late. He sighed deeply, and glanced around.
He knew he shouldn't. He really shouldn't. But it was the pure nerve of her, holding that book, that moved him to-wards Juliet. He glanced at the author's name, not bothering to read the title. He threw an accusing look at Juliet. "So, I guess I'm out of the book club."

I won't be writing Benry flashbacks for a while....I want to wait until we know more about the loveable scamp in season three. Unfortunately, I think the first 'Other' flashback will belong to Juliet, which I'm disappointed about. Don't get me wrong, I lurve Juliet, but Benry is just more interesting.

Benry said that, 'I've lived on this island all my life' I'm hoping he isn't say...a test tube kid, or his parents became stranded there, but more that he had some sort of 'rebirth' on the island. Means I can make stuff up about his past.

There were many things in the world Benjamin Linus was afraid of. The normal human things. The dark. Injury. Needles.
But now, sitting in the unwashed little white room with two X-ray scans pinned to the chart, he didn't feel fear. He felt despair. A despair that was deep, incurable, inconsolable, and somewhat humbling. But most of all, he felt...off.
Something inside him, unwanted, had creeped inside him and was eating away at his insides. A hostile invader.
As he was told this...new information, he felt a strange hatred for the one telling him it. It wasn't Jennifer's fault, and there's no easy way to break it, but... she somehow seemed alien. Impersonal. Like it was a job. Bullshit. She wasn't even qualified. She was pretending, they were all just pretending.
What were they meant to be? Noble? The greater good? He doubted himself so often, and never let anyone know it. He was the leader. He had to remain cold. Outwardly, he appeared uncaring. But these were his people. And he loved them.
Jennifer's voice had become a drone as she discussed the specifics. He was now watching his hand, unmoving. Just flesh, and he had a sudden image of his hand rotting away to the bone, covered by maggots, and he screwed his eyes shut.
Lack of qualified doctors, that was indeed troubling. Something he knew would come back to hurt him....but not...him. Someone else.
He clenched his fist slightly, and looked down at his feet, with a sharp intake of breath to prevent himself from looking even more pathetic then he already felt.
He coughed to hide any hitched breath, and stood, keeping his head down slightly. Don't cry, Benjamin. You're a leader. You must remain emotionally detached at all times.
"Thank you, Jennifer, I....I'm going home. Thank you."
"Ben-"
"Thank you, Jennifer."
And after time, he would have to figure out what would happen. After....after he was gone, he'd have to named a successor. Juliet, oh God....what would she think? How would she feel?
He wanted her to become the new authority. Cyrus would want to, however, and he'd have to stop him somehow. But he couldn't think straight, it was all too much.
It was strange, fate. Fate can tear those you love from you so simply and with no effort. All it takes is something simple. A bullet. An accident. A time difference. A tumor. So strange, so strange, to think that something so mediocre and medical could end a life which had been so extraordinary. Then again, what had he been expecting?

Benjamin Linus set the freshly baked muffins on the plate, and then set the plate on the tray. He felt lips against the side of his neck, and he smiled as a female voice inquired, "One of these days, I think I'll bake the muffins."
"Not while I'm still in this house. I like living in a home that isn't on fire." he replied playfully. "Maybe you should stick to microwaving soup."
"Oh, so arrogant." she whispered in a tone of mock annoyance and disgust. She moved past him, snatching one of them up as she did.
The doorbell rang, and he quickly pushed the tray into her arms, accidentally causing her to drop her muffin. But he didn't notice. He turned and headed towards the door. "I've got it, don't worry." he replied, opening the door. He smiled upon seeing the old woman with the youthful attitude and demeanor in front of him. "Amelia."
She smiled, clutching a thick book in her arms. "Ben."
* * *
His relationship with Juliet was a complicated one. Sometimes, he hated her. He couldn't believe her callousness, her apathy. Other times, he couldn't live without her and would gladly rip the damn island from the face of the Earth for her. Every time they seemed to solve a relationship problem or come to a compromise, something would happen. There would be a new problem, or an old one resurfacing, and they would be insulting each other with new barbs and hurts. They could both be equally vicious to each other.
For example, she was a cruel, spiteful, over-reacting petty cow with a creepy smile. He was a domineering, possessive loser with big eyes.
One step forward, two steps back, all the time.
But that wasn't what he was thinking about now. Why would it be? It had been a good couple of weeks. Not one argument. He sipped his tea, she slurped her coffee and Adam just driveled on. "It's a fantastic book. Themes of corruption in the judicial system throughout are very strong, particularly in the character of Jaggers." he looked over at Benjamin, and asked eagerly, "Don't you think, Ben?"
"Well, actually...." he began, replying. "I felt that the themes were a little....on the nose. And as a character, Jaggers is inconsistent." It wasn't what he truly thought, he agreed with Adam. But sometimes he just liked to toy with the kiss-ass little piss-ant for his own amusement.
Adam looked disappointed. "Oh...yes, well...well, yes, I agree with you there...he shows the corruption, but as a character is an awful example of-"
Colleen cut him off. Colleen and Danny never paid attention, never read the book, and were often late. But still, Benjamin liked both of them. Right now, Colleen was sitting on Danny's lap. "Blah, blah, blah." she drawled to Adam, whose face flushed with silent fury. "Monosyllabic blah."
She picked up the book she and Danny had (which was in notably bad condition) and said, "Not enough sex from a writer called Dick."
"Dickens."
"Well, whatever." replied Colleen, and both Benjamin and Juliet smiled as she proceeded to irritate Adam. Danny was watching with a big grin as he nuzzled Colleen's neck.
Adam grumbled something, and then leaned over to pick up a muffin. Then, Danny spoke up. "Why do we have to read this 'classic' shit? I miss the movie club. Or at least give us something good to read."
Benjamin rolled his eyes. "Like what, Danny, what's good to read?"
"What was that book everyone liked with the dinosaurs?"
"Jurassic Park."
"No, that was a movie. The one where the T-Rex bites the guy's chest off."
"Jurassic Park..."
"No, that was a movie!"
"It was also a book."
"Oh." Danny shrugged. "Well, can't we read something like that?"
Benjamin sighed, rubbing his forehead, and then felt a slight numbness in the back of his neck. Like pins and needles.
Colleen started to talk. "He loves his dinosaurs."
"Cole!" began Danny, quickly, starting to turn red.
"I caught him playing with two dinosaur toys, a t-rex and a stegosaurus."
"Cole! Ssh!"
Juliet and Amelia laughed. "Why on earth do you have dinosaur toys?" asked Amelia, between bursts of laughter.
The smile of Colleen died down a little. Danny squeezed her hand a little, and she squeezed back. "What did you all think of the contrast between Estella and Biddy?" asked Benjamin, trying to change the subject.
Danny and Colleen had tried for a child several times, both desperately wanting to be parents. But...circumstances meant that could never happen.
Adam began to rant about the contrast, but Benjamin wasn't listening, and neither was anyone else. Then, Danny cut Adam off again. "I'll tell you a good book me and Cole read once. Cujo."
Benjamin bristled. Not this subject again. Danny should know better.
"Why aren't we reading anything by Steven King?" Colleen nodded in agreement.
Juliet glanced over at her lover. "Yes, Ben. Why not, I mean...he does write extremely good books. Even if you don't like the lack of depth, it really is just a good story. Why aren't we-?"
He suddenly exploded, "Because Steven King is an over-rated, loud-mouthed hack without an ounce of talent. He markets his books to people who aren't even readers, they just want the book equivalent of a Michael Bay film. There's no worth at all, he markets to idiots."
"Oh?" asked Juliet, raising her eyebrows. "Oh, well, thank you for insulting my choice of literature and calling me an idiot in one. But I think I'm entitled to my own opinion, and it's my opinion that what you like to read is usually a load of crap."
"I know the works of Charles Dickens and Oscar Wilde pale in comparison to the tale of the rabid dog that eventually died, but sometimes, Julie, an open mind-"
He could tell her anger was rising. "An open mind? Could you be more hypocritical? Oh, this is just typical." The others shifted uncomfortably as the two hosts began their shouting match. "You just hate the idea I like something you don't."
"I try my best..." snapped Ben. "I try my best to try and read your books and listen to your Petula Clark and deal with your plain shitty taste but...but....hey, what are you doing?"
Juliet had begun to go around the table, picking up the copies of Great Expectations one by one. She began to tear the pages out in a fury, and shoved them into the trash compactor. "There. No more Dickens, guess we'll have to find something else. Hm, ever heard of The Dark Tower?"
"Oh, very mature, Juliet." growled Ben, standing, his face filled with anger and annoyance.
"No, Benjamin Linus, mature is wanting your own way all the time and getting angry when someone disagrees with you!"
Colleen and Danny stood. So did Adam and Amelia. Adam was the first out the door. Amelia made a polite excuse and left. Danny and Colleen were more honest. "Hey, if you guys are just gonna butt heads, Cole and I can go home and watch the box to do that." said Danny, and then headed out the door.
He looked over at Juliet, who growled menacingly and stormed past him into the bedroom. "Juliet, for God's sake-"
She slammed the door shut. Benjamin opened his mouth, about to try and offer compromise. Perhaps apologize. But instead, he yelled, "Fine! Do as you want! Tell me what happens to the god-damn mutt at the end!"
He collapsed back onto his sofa, brimming with anger, exhaustion, and the numbness had still not gone.

Jurassic Park as a book?! Man ... it's like watching a silent movie in dolby 5.1! Ben we should open up a serious book club and all those others could do their little Stephen King - Mickey Mouse Club!

Actually, Jurassic Park is a brilliant book, written by Michael Crichton dealing with the whole Man-as-God idea and themes of inevitable chaos. As well as having cool dinosaurs. It's one of my faves. And I haven't read much Stephen King, so really I'm just pretending... I have read Cujo though...

I guess I should put some OCs of the Others in here. Name: Daniel 'Danny' Pickett. Age: Late 30s. Occupation back home: I'm a....'foreman' Appearance: Nationality: American. Residence: My home on the island. Skills: I'm strong as hell, decisive, and I never hesitate to do what I want to do. Weaknesses/bad habits: I'm told I have a temper that can, at times, be uncontrollable. I tend to find other people to blame for my problems. Frequent moods/expressions: I'm usually a cynical but wryly funny guy. Don't catch me in a mood, though.
