I really like Gracie's charachter. She seem's sweet and innocent, but I'm willing to bet a penny that she's not as fragile as she seems. Tis a shame Ruth had to die, but hey, makes a great storyline that the one connection to the hearing world is dead. And then Gwen comes along

Flashback triggered from here: abclost.proboards40.com/index.cgi?board=rpgbios&action=display&thread=1156300598***FLASHBACK*** Nashville, Tennessee May 1994 It had been four months since the death of her parents, three months and twenty-four days since Auntie Ruth had adopted her, and three months and fifteen days since the nightmares had first started. They were so bad that she often wound up sleeping in Auntie Ruth's bed, too scared to be by herself. When she was with Auntie Ruth, Gracie didn't dream of the car crash that had taken her parents' lives. She didn't dream about the eighteen-wheeler careening across the slippery road, slamming into the Schaeffer family's car, killing Victoria and James instantly and sending eight-year-old Gracie to the hospital with a broken leg, cuts and bruises, and a concussion. But tonight, Auntie Ruth had left after Gracie fell asleep, intending to continue looking at child psychologists who could help her traumatized niece get past these nightmares. Gracie tossed and turned, caught in the throes of another nightmare. She sat bolt upright, not hearing herself scream in terror as she scrunched her eyes closed and tried to shake the horrifying images out of her head. Ruth hurried into the room and sat down on the bed, pulling Gracie onto her lap and rocking her soothingly. The little girl calmed almost instantly, reaching up to toy with the silver locket around her aunt's neck. She smiled, easily entranced by how the light reflected off the locket and made it shine. Auntie Ruth and Auntie Ruth's locket: two things that made Gracie feel safe and comforted.

I'm in agreement with sugarplumfairy, Grace seems like she's tougher than you'd expect.

Flashback triggered from here: abclost.proboards40.com/index.cgi?board=rpggame&action=display&thread=1157131986&page=9***Flashback*** Nashville, Tennessee January 2004 "No, don't go. Please don't go." "You leave me no choice but to go." "I'm sorry! It was a stupid mistake, one that I swear I'll never make again, just please don't leave me. I never wanted our relationship to end like this!" "Should've thought of that before you slept with her, Eddie. We're done." Grace looked at her boyfriend of two years, keeping her turbulent emotions hidden beneath a mask of calm contempt. She didn't want to break up with him, she truly didn't, but she knew that if she forgave him and took him back it would only encourage him to repeat the offense. She simply couldn't trust him anymore. He had slept with another girl, after having spent two years swearing that Grace was the only girl in his life, and that was something she could never forgive. Breaking up with him was the only way to make sure he would never hurt her again. "Gracie, please. Stay," Edward signed desperately, begging her with his hands and his eyes to just forgive him and let everything go back to the way it was. "You know I don't have any feelings for Carly. I love you, Grace, and I won't let one drunken fling change that!" "You may not let a 'drunken fling' change that, but I sure as hell will. You're a fool, Edward Vickers, if you think I'm going to let myself be won over by your pretty words and apologies. I wouldn't stay if you paid me to." Turning and walking away, Grace bit her lip hard to keep from bursting out in tears. She didn't need him, didn't need anyone but Aunt Ruth. Other people would only hurt her in the end; look at how things had wound up with Eddie. If she didn't want to get hurt again, there was only one solution: don't let anyone get close to her, ever again. Her face turned resolutely firm and she held her head high as she walked away from her first --and, if she had her way, last-- relationship. Nobody would be able to make her stay.

And here's the point she goes straight to the freezer and gets out a tub of rocky road, sits and watches some god awful made for tv melodrama and crys into a large box of tissues over how crappy guys can be. I sympathise with Grace.

(Totally borrowing this idea from Heidi!)
Grace's relationship to people on the island
Molly -- Grace doesn't know her, really, but Molly pretty much saved her life by making her move away from the engine right after the crash.
Ruth -- (deceased) Grace's aunt and guardian of ten years.
Gwen -- Helped Grace with her injuries post-crash. Grace doesn't know her well yet, but knows that she can sign and is kind of looking out for the girl.
Willo -- Met on day two on the beach, discussed those they'd lost and how to cope with it. He seems like a nice enough guy, and she wouldn't mind talking to him again.
Nameless -- He fell out of the sky (almost literally) in front of her on the first night, and Grace realized that he wasn't a survivor of the crash. She hasn't seen him since and is wondering if he was just a hallucination.

Flashback triggered from here: abclost.proboards40.com/index.cgi?board=rpggame&action=display&thread=1156704454&page=24***FLASHBACK*** June 5th, 1989 Orlando, Florida Mommy helping her put her hair up into pigtail braids. Her new green swimsuit with a little shiny green skirt ruffled around the bottom. Rubbing the cold white goop all over herself, "to keep the sun from hurting her," Daddy said. Mommy and Daddy holding her hands and swinging her between them as they splashed and played in the water. The constant crash of the water on the sand, "waves," Daddy said they were called. Eating ice cream cones and laughing when Mommy got ice cream on her nose. Watching the sun go down over the water, which Daddy said was called the "ocean." Daddy was the smartest man in the whole big world, Gracie thought sleepily, sucking her thumb as Daddy picked her up and carried her back to the hotel room. Through it all, the sound of the waves continued, lulling her into the deep, innocent sleep of a child.

Flashback triggered from here: abclost.proboards40.com/index.cgi?board=rpggame&action=display&thread=1161245647***FLASHBACK*** October 5, 1989 "Mommy, my neck hurts," three-year-old Grace whimpered, tugging on her mother's skirt. "And my head hurts." Victoria picked the girl up and frowned. "Can you try and touch your chin to your chest, sweetpea?" she asked, pressing the back of her hand to her daughter's forehead. "Oh, you have a fever!" Grace tried to bend her head and do as Mommy asked, but she couldn't. "It hurts!" she repeated. "Stay right here, sweetpea. I'm going to call Daddy and have him meet us at the hospital, okay?" Victoria set Grace down on the couch and picked up the phone, quickly dialing her husband's office number. Grace closed her eyes as Mommy talked, saying things she didn't understand. "I think it might be meningitis, James! This is serious. I'm taking her to the emergency room. Meet us there as soon as you can." It was hardly twenty minutes before an ER doctor ushered Victoria, James, and Grace into a room. After a horde of tests, he returned with a grim diagnosis. "It's bacterial meningitis. We'll have to hospitalize your daughter and start her on antibiotics right away."

Old profile for the character of Grace. The player will be creating a new one with new flashbacks.
