"You got something to say about Jake?"
He smiled. "No. Of course not." His smile widened, and he jumped back into the hole. He picked up the spade again, slinging it over his shoulder and began casually, "You know, it seems to be that...the people on this island...the ones who die first are usually...the weak..."
He dug the spade into the dirt. He looked over at Ana, his eyes meeting hers. "Or they're just plain stupid. It's just Darwin. Survival of the fittest." He smiled again. "I guess Jake wasn't too fit."

Enough was enough. Ethan was too smart to be caught out by Ana's tactics which she could have let slide for now. There'd be other chances to try and trip him into admitting whatever it was he was hiding given rescue was seemingly further and further away. But the way he just kept smiling - that creepy serial killer smile - and the way he was talking about Jake was like a red rag to a bull.
The instant he looked away to dig again, Ana was in the hole, knocking the shovel from his grip and shoving him roughly against the higher end that she'd dug, pinning him there with her entire body weight.
"Jake's not dead!" She yelled, her eye's showing anger and hurt at the same time.

"Jake's not dead!"
A look of sympathy flickered across his face as she spoke words heavy with anger and angst, but then all possible empathy vanished. His reached up with his powerful arms and big hands, grabbing her face on both sides and holding it in place as he head-butted her fiercely.
Seeing her dazed, he knocked her away, pushing her onto the ground. "You're insane."

Seeing Ethan's face suddenly so close made Ana almost grateful that everything suddenly went white. That was until the whitness ebbed away, leaving her with dark spots in her vision and a sense of falling backwards. She hit the dirt with a thud, one hand stretched out to lessen the impact, one instinctively held up to her head to try and ease the pain that had invaded it.
"You're insane."
"I'm insane!?! Are you kidding me?" She said as sense came back to her. Grabbing the bamboo shovel that had fallen next to her, she held it out in front to keep Ethan at bay as she got up off her back. She didn't put it past him to kick her while she was down.

He took a step backwards, and just smirked at her. "You know, Ana, you should really stop this. You need to stay with reality, here. You shouldn't be alone in the jungle, making me out to be the villain in your little story and obsessing over some dead, rotting guy in the jungle." he said calmly. He stepped past her, jumping out of the hole. "You'll just hurt yourself, more than me."

"I wouldn't count on that." Ana sneered back through gritted teeth. She was about to launch herself at him again, gripping the shovel tight in her hands, when the weight of the bamboo reminded her what she was meant to be doing. The pit. There was a reason to be out in the jungle alone. And no matter what Ethan said, she refused to believe Jake was dead. She stood her ground, almost as if she was defending the small dirt hole.

"I wouldn't count on that."
He raised one eyebrow. "Oh, what, you gonna kill me out here? Hit me over the head, bury me in that hole of yours all the while muttering that I'm the psychopath?"

"Is that what you'd do?" Ana enquired.

Ethan gave a non-chalent shrug. "Survival sometimes means....taking out whatever predator is bigger than you."

"I'll bare that in mind." Ana said, thinking about how she was going to make sure Ethan was the first person to get aquainted with the pit she was digging.
"Feel free to go back to being Gwen's lapdog...." Ana said, relenting her stance and going back to digging as if Ethan were of no interest to her.

"Feel free to go back to being Gwen's lapdog...."
He snapped his head back to her in fury, and snarled angrily, "Well, at least I'm a lapdog to someone living." He then quickly turned, and stalked away.
