KATE
"Something's already transmitting?" she asked hopefully nearly the same time Charlie asked where it could be transmitting from. "That's a good thing." Her smile faded as she saw Sayid still concentrating as if this were a problem. "Right?" she asked hesitantly.

SAYID
"Something's already transmitting?" she asked hopefully nearly the same time Charlie asked where it could be transmitting from. "That's a good thing." Her smile faded as she saw Sayid still concentrating as if this were a problem. "Right?" she asked hesitantly.
"It depends. It may be coming from a shipping lane or a plane, or from somewhere else on the island. But keep in mind that we are currently in international waters. It could be anyone from an operations crew, to pirates or smugglers."
He looked to Charlie to answer his question, not having forgotten him. "Somewhere close. The signal's strong. It could be a SAT phone, maybe a radio signal..."
CHARLIE
"Somewhere close, you mean on the island, that's great." Charlie said, feeling cheerful. Finally, things were looking up. Soon they'd be rescued, and the thought brought a small smile to his face.

He was about to interrupt Ana, Charlie and Shannon, when Sayid provided a better distraction. Inwardly grateful, he watched carefully, his fists clenched tightly in apprehension. "Can we get a pinpoint on their location? Is it near the island? Offshore, perhaps?" he asked quickly.

Face to face with Charlie and Shannon, Ana-Lucia could feel herself about to truly lose it. With her fists tightly clenched, and her mouth open ready to tear strips off the both of them, she found herself interupted by Sayid's announcement that they had a signal. How very fortunate for the pair. Ten more seconds and they'd have been better off facing the polar bear.
She closed her mouth and simply glared at the mismatched duo until they walked away to investigate the feedback Sayid was getting on the radio. For a second, it looked like Severin might have tried to diffuse the situation, but he too found the sudden hope of picking up a signal too distracting.
As everyone huddled around Sayid, all bickering suddenly forgotten, Ana just gritted her teeth and threw Severin a 'not now' look. For some reason, he'd decided he was the one brave enough to tell Ana when she was getting out of control. In a way, he reminded her of her LAPD partner, big Mike. More than once, he'd had to tell Ana to back down from an arguement while on duty. Maybe, for Charlie and Shannon's sake, it was a good thing he'd come on the hike.
Not that Ana was about to let things just drop. She'd bide her time. No-one spoke to her like that and got away with it. She'd just wait for a quiet moment to have a word with each of them. They'd know it was a mistake to get on her bad side...

pushes through people to be apart of this circle " send out a distress signal, i cant stand this island any longer"
"Can we get a pinpoint on their location? Is it near the island? Offshore, perhaps?" he asked quickly.
"Maybe it's other survivors," he suggested.
"Let me get the frequency first, hold on." Sayid answered everyone's rushed queries towards him, tuning the reception on the transciever.
There was static at first. Then, a woman's voice came through. After a few more moments of listening, it was clear that the woman speaking on the transmission was not speaking in English. Her words and her accent made it clear that the woman was, in fact, speaking French.
"Does anyone speak French?" Sayid asked, now finally looking up from the transciever and around the group gathered around him. He was satisfied that they had finally gotten a transmission, but that was only half the work done. Now he needed to rely on the skills of the people who had accompanied him on the hike. Secretly, he was glad, having realised that additional numbers in the group also meant an increased chance that at least one of them would know how to speak French. But if they didn't... then, they would be stuck. They wouldn't know if the French were coming for rescue, or if they were communicating to someone else. What would they do if no-one was able to translate the message?
CHARLIE
"The rescue party, it has to be." Charlie said with youthful optimism, waiting for Sayid to get a fix on the signal. When he heard the woman speaking French through the transciever, he suddenly started yelling gleefully. "It's French, the French are coming! I've never been so happy to hear the French!"

KATE
"I never took French. What's she saying?" Kate asked quickly so that her voice wouldn't interrupt too much of the signal. She looked around at the group member to see if anybody looked as if they were understanding the words.

BOONE He could feel his excitement and relief of there being a rescue party. "Does anyone speak French?" He pointed to Shannon, he was glad that not only someone knew French, but the two of them were finally of value, "She does." BEN I listened to the message, I made out a couple of the words, like "dead" and "it killed them" I stared at the transceiver in fear, what ever it is, its not good. ((ooc: je lui ai dit, first off I don't think ai means anything, its probably suppose to be 'a' because that's past tense, so I think is means I told him, because 'lui' means 'him,' but don't quote me on that I'm not 100% sure, but I'm almost positive its 'a' and not 'ai.' But if its not past tense it could be the expression 'I'm telling you or I'm asking you' which would make more sense. Just so you know )

When a voice finally crackled to life over the radio, a swell of hope struck Ana enough to dispell her temper for the moment. She moved closer to the gathered group, trying to make out what the voice was saying. If only it had been Spanish and not French, then she'd have been able to translate no problem.
When it soon became apparent the only member of the group who had any chance of translating it was Shannon, her heart sank once more. Boone seemed adamant that she could speak French, Shannon seemed adamant she couldn't. Ana-Lucia moved closer to Shannon, feeling slightly like she was about to interogate the girl.
"Can you translate it or not?" She demanded. Her voice cold, hard and urgent.

He was just as eager as everyone else. But as always, it was best to be gentle. "Please, miss. If you can just try, for us. Just try your best, no one will ask anything more of you if you try."

SAWYER
Sawyer was getting impatient with the technical mumbo jumbo and after Shannon mentioned the message was repeating, he snapped, "Well, if it's repeating, what the hell's it saying?! Don't just sit their listening, translate already!"
