Sarah pointed at his face with a pleased expression on hers. "Good start there!" she acknowledged. It was just nice to be around him. Yes, that summed it up pretty well. It was very nice being around Billy. It made the worries disappear and painted everything in bright colors. Stop! That just sounded like describing someone having a crush ... Sarah was confused.

She swallowed hard, glancing at Sarah again and trying to find an excuse to be out of earshot. "Well, it's actually concerns about the existing prepared food trays, or lack thereof," she began, nodding back toward the shore and stepping away, hoping that Sayid would follow.
"Whatever you need to say you can say it here..." Sayid said at first, starting on the next corner of the tarp he hadn't finished working on, but Gwen seemed to insist that the conversation be taken away from Sarah so that it was only between him and her. Understandable, considering they shared a mutual understanding, at best, since the crash. He left his work and got up to follow her, continuing to wonder what all the secrecy was about.
Once they had passed by Charlie and Claire, and were sufficiently isolated, she started again. "Okay, it's not really about the food. Although that is a concern. I'm just not a very good liar, which sort of brings me to my point."
She finally paused and faced him, taking a deep breath. "Which is that I would like to take this horribly inopportune time to be perfectly honest with you," she declared. "I know you didn't ask for it, and it's very unfair to you, but..." she let her voice trail off. She needed to make him understand; she needed to let him know that all his efforts were appreciated and still valid, despite the hopelessness that might be implied by what she was about to say.
"Look, you've taken on the responsibility of protecting these people, providing for them, and for that I'm grateful. You must know that. But I think you deserve to know just what it is you're up against here."
Sayid considered Gwen's words for a moment. Did she know? About what had happened on the hike? It was probable, of course, that being a flight attendant, her staff were briefed on their situation about being a thousand miles off course while they were still in the air. Perhaps this is what she wished to share with him. But he had to be careful about telling her what he knew; if he was wrong, he did not want another person to face the hopelessness he and the others on the transciever party had already discovered.
"Go on." Sayid said, crossing his arms over his chest. "What is it exactly that I deserve to know?"

"Go on." Sayid said, crossing his arms over his chest. "What is it exactly that I deserve to know?"
Gwen looked down at the sand for a few seconds before meeting his gaze again. After all the questioning and the doubting and the harassing and the pitying she'd been through, what did she need from him? Approval? Validation that she'd done the right thing? It wasn't even about beating Ana to the punch anymore. Maybe she just wanted to feel less alone bearing the burden of truth...
"Six hours into the flight, we lost radio contact," she started matter-of-factly. "At that point, the decision was made to turn back for Fiji. When the turbulence hit, we were at least a thousand miles off-course. Those of us who made the trek to the cockpit heard this information from the pilot, who at the time was still alive. It was his hope that the transceiver would be able to relay our location to any search and rescue operations."
She paused and nervously tucked her hair behind her ear, lightly crossing her arms. "The pilot died shortly thereafter. He was...he was killed by that thing in the jungle. We didn't see it, we just...heard it. It ripped him from the cockpit, and we ran. As fast as we could. We found his body later. It was...it was horrible."
She shut her eyes tightly and breathed in again. Sayid wouldn't care about her personal trauma, nor should he care. He just needed the facts of the situation, like any leader. "Anyway, when we returned to camp, it was agreed that we would say nothing. We didn't want to needlessly add to anyone's stress or worry. Not that I'm ecstatic about adding to your stress and worry, it's just that...you seem like you can handle it," she said with a forced but weak smile.
"I don't blame you for feeling betrayed or deceived, and you would be completely justified in telling me to bugger off. Sayid, I never meant to hurt anyone; any decisions that I made were for the greater good. Or so I thought at the time. I don't really know what to think anymore. I just...I can't really bring myself to lie to you any longer."

"Well, it's not really his fault..." She said cautiously. She hoped this wouldn't start an argument.
"No," Krystal said vaguely, "it is not."
She looked out to the ocean, and sat down near the fuselage wreck.

"Good start there!"
He smiled in reply. He dug his hands into his pockets, and said, "If it doesn't sound too arrogant, I'll send you my photo shoot when we're off the island." He said it as a joke, but if she wanted, hell, he'd give her the genuine article. And as he thought about, he did realize how incredibly arrogant he'd sounded.

"If it doesn't sound too arrogant, I'll send you my photo shoot when we're off the island."
Sarah cracked a laugh. "Well ..." she caught breath again. "Only a little. But I'll let you go through with it because having original pictures of your photo-shoot might be worth a lot ... not only money!" They both were walking a few steps further, the warm breeze running through their hairs. "So, get me off this island and send me the pictures!" she added less amused and maybe even a little sad.

Sayid sighed a little and unfoled his arms. "Gwen, I already knew." he told her, looking at her a little sympathetically now. "Kate told us on the hike to get a signal. As you may recall, she and Charlie were with you when you first went to the cockpit to retrieve the transciever, correct? Well, we also decided unanimously not to tell the others outside our party what had happened, so they would not loose hope and start a panic. So I understand how you feel. I don't feel betrayed or decieved, and I certainly would not tell you to leave. You are correct, what you did was indeed for the greater good, and the others will be better off for it." He smiled. "Thank you for telling me anyway, Gwen, and I hope it has relieved your concious."
There was still the matter that he hadn't told Gwen; about the French woman's tranmission blocking the signal. So what he had confirmed to Gwen was only a half-truth. But he had agreed with the others that that information was on a need-to-know basis, just as the information about flying off course had been. So for the moment he said nothing further, not wanting to give Gwen any more information that she needed to be burdened with. The poor woman seemed she had been burdened enough.
"Is there anything else you wish to tell me, Gwen?" he asked her, hoping she had finished her confession and would now start to feel better for telling it to him.

Gwen listened intently to his reaction, every word he spoke seeming to loosen the tightness in her chest. He already knew. More than that, he understood. And he didn't blame her or resent her for it. A definite improvement on Ana's response to the same information. And when he smiled at her, she somehow felt that everything would be okay.
"Thank you for telling me anyway, Gwen, and I hope it has relieved your concious."
She nodded quickly. "Yes, absolutely," she asserted. "I think I might actually get some sleep tonight."
"Is there anything else you wish to tell me, Gwen?"
"No, no," she said with a slight laugh, waving her hand dismissively. "Well...there was a certain incident at a rave in Goa with a DJ and one too many servings of schnappes, but uh, I'll save that for some time when you're really bored."
She looked away to take in the activity of the other survivors around them. "Sorry, I know there's work to do, and I've already taken up too much of your time. But thank you for understanding," she said sincerely. "If you need anything from me, anything at all, please don't hesitate to ask. I figure I owe you one."

CHARLIE
"Oh." Charlie said at first, a little surprised. It wasn't expected that pregnant women flew alone, or even at all, but Charlie accepted the new information.
"Well, who needs men, right? Bloody useless." he joke as they reached their destination, hauled the heavy suitcase off the wheelchair for her. Once he had done so, he turned to her and grinned, hoping she had a good enough sense of humor not to take offense to what he said.
CLAIRE
She heard the 'Oh'. She looked to her feet but then he spoke again. Claire laughed at what he said. She was glad that he was different. Claire would have agreed with what he said but it wasn't true. Not all men were the same....
"So, you guys hiked all the way up on that mountain for nothing, huh?" She asked casually wondering what had happened on the trip.
NATZ
"No," Krystal said vaguely, "it is not."
She looked out to the ocean, and sat down near the fuselage wreck.
Natalie looked at Krystal and got the impression she was upset about something. "Hey....everything ok?" She asked cautiously sitting next to her and looking at her expression. She wasn't sure what Krystal could be upset about although she did go off with that guy sometime yesterday...

SAYID
She nodded quickly. "Yes, absolutely," she asserted. "I think I might actually get some sleep tonight."
"Good." Sayid nodded, looking simply at Gwen, agreeing with her train of thought. If there was anything more that they needed after the ordeal they had been through, it would be a decent night's sleep.
"No, no," she said with a slight laugh, waving her hand dismissively. "Well...there was a certain incident at a rave in Goa with a DJ and one too many servings of schnappes, but uh, I'll save that for some time when you're really bored."
Sayid looked slightly amused at Gwen, and nodded to her. "Alright. Perhaps another time." he smiled again, and turned around to leave.
She looked away to take in the activity of the other survivors around them. "Sorry, I know there's work to do, and I've already taken up too much of your time. But thank you for understanding," she said sincerely. "If you need anything from me, anything at all, please don't hesitate to ask. I figure I owe you one."
Sayid stopped and turned back around to face her, placing his hands on his hips, and shook his head. "Gwen, there is no need to be non-confrontational. I was once a solider, not a prime minister. You may come to speak to me in private anytime you like, it won't bother me. And no problem... you do not owe me anything at all, so don't feel that way. I may just see you around camp, when you're not busy. See you soon, okay? I should get back to work."
He turned around again and walked away back to the tarp he was setting up, this time with a slight smile on his face, considering what Gwen had said.
CHARLIE
"So, you guys hiked all the way up on that mountain for nothing, huh?" She asked casually wondering what had happened on the trip.
Charlie wasn't sure what to say. He had agreed with the others not to tell anyone about what had happened on the transciever hike... that, and the burden of the information he had also shared with the party that had gone to the cockpit. How was he supposed to tell her that they had no hope of rescue? That they had flown a thousand miles off course, no-one was looking for them and if they were it was in the wrong place, and worst of all they couldn't send a distress signal out because a French woman's distress signal was already blocking it?
Considering she could very well be emotional enough what with the baby, he kept silent for the moment, trying to think of the right thing to say without shattering the poor girl's hopes, and feeling very guilty that he couldn't be completely honest with her at the same time. He wondered if any of the others in the groups that he had been in felt this way...

"Right, of course. See you later!" she said as he departed, returning to his previous task. She felt relieved, and somehow lighter. He didn't hate her, he hadn't told her to sod off, in fact he might have even smiled at her more than once. But that was probably her imagination. Then again, he didn't seem completely averse to speaking with her again.
Oh, stop acting like a silly schoolgirl, she admonished herself. Jasmine would have had a field day if she were here. She should probably quit while she was ahead, so she decided to leave for the relative calm of her shelter.

"Hey....everything ok?" She asked cautiously sitting next to her and looking at her expression.
Krystal was silent for a second before responding.
"Yeah," Krystal replied, "everything's cool." Looking out again at the ocean, she sighed, and realised that being on this island brought hope and sadness.
"We should go back to the main camp," Krystal said abruptly, "that's probably where the food is going to be now."

CLAIRE She saw his reluctance to answer. She wasn't sure why this might be but she thought it better to change the subject. Maybe she would find out what exactly had happened later on...when someone was ready to tell her..
She smiled at the man.
"..Anyway, my name's Claire." She said realising she had't introduced herself. She extended her hand with a bright smile.
NATZ "Yeah," Krystal replied, "everything's cool."
Natalie looked at Krystal. She wanted to say more. Ask her what was wrong because something must be wrong if she was acting like this. She had only known her a few days but she knew her well enough to know that she usually made her feelings known. Somehow she couldn't find the words to ask her though. As if something inside her was telling her not to and to butt out.
"We should go back to the main camp," Krystal said abruptly, "that's probably where the food is going to be now."
Natalie looked up at her and nodded. "Yeah, yeah ok." She said. She had nearly forgotten about the food.

She laughed again ... she was laughing so much around Billy that hopefully her relationship could be considered serious at one point too. "I have to tell you that writing 'thank you' on a yellow post it and pinning it to your Aston Martin in an unobserved moment takes even me more than 2 seconds and I am quite keen on such short notices. But don't worry as not even a cat is waiting for me you might get more attention than you want!"

"You say that like it's a bad thing!" she remarked only slightly smiling now. "Of course my parents are probably worried like shit right now but no one really close ... you know. My brother though, well, you know that he has vanished for some reason, right? Other than that ... my ex husband is here ... my affair is here. Nope ... no one at all I guess!"
