He laughed. "No, ma'am." He munched down on a piece of mango. Then something occured to him. Maternal mode? "Do you have any kids, Heidi?"

"No, no, no," I said laughing. "I'm so not ready for that. But the cousin I mentioned? I'll always consider him my first baby," I said with a smile. "People have always mistaken us for mother and son, which amuses us since we're only 9 years apart. It's understandable though. He does look a lot like me. He even has the exact same hair color as me, right down to the reddish highlights."
I took my first ever bite of mango, leaning forward as the juice started flowing from it. It was pretty good, but then again, I was so hungry that any two-day old food left over from the wreckage would probably taste good right about now. A trail of juice started working it's way down my hand and I licked it up before it got past my wrist.
"So," I began as I licked some more of the mango juice off my hands, "do you have any kids?" I looked up at him, waiting for a response.

"Haha, nope, no way." he laughed. "I can barely afford to keep feeding my dog and pay the rent for my shack."

"Yah, kids are very expensive." I finished off the rest of my half then took another and started cutting it. "Did you want some more?"

"No, thanks, Honey-Drop-Heidi. I'm used to not eating for a while." he said, and then gave a slight smile. "Darn, this hand hurts. Any chance of you squeezing into a little nurse outfit and helping it?"

"Dream on, honey," I said with a grin as I started eating another half of a mango. "I didn't think of packing my little nurse outfit, so it's at home with my leather one and my whip and paddle collection," I teased as I licked my fingers. "So, did you want to work on moving your shelter right after I finish or did you have other plans?"

"I didn't think of packing my little nurse outfit, so it's at home with my leather one and my whip and paddle collection,"
"Well, darn. And here I thought everyone bought their whip and paddle collection when they went on holiday." he smirked. "You must just be...weird."
"So, did you want to work on moving your shelter right after I finish or did you have other plans?"
"Hm, I'll have to check my schedule." He pretended to take out an invisable calender and check it. "Let me see...crash-land on an island....and then I'm free, actually." He smiled, and stood. "Let's get on it."

"Funny," I said as I chewed on the last piece of the half-slice of mango, "my schedule seems to have cleared as well." I stood up, still holding half of a mango. "Let me just go wash my hands and I'll be right back. Or you can tag along. Man I miss sinks," I said as I started making my way toward the beach.
On my way, I stopped at little Sarah's shelter. "Hey there, Sarah. I brought you something." I handed her the other half of mango. "I don't know if you like mangos, but it's all the food I could find right now. Sorry I don't have a carrot for Mr. Floppers."

SARAH
She was sitting by her Shelter when Heidi came over, handing her a mango. "Hey there, Sarah. I brought you something....I don't know if you like mangos, but it's all the food I could find right now. Sorry I don't have a carrot for Mr. Floppers."
Sarah giggled, she took the mago and smiled. "Thanks Heidi, how's your Shelter coming along?" she smiled and took a bite, she wasn't into mango's much.. But it was food.

"Nah, I'm fine being lazy." Cyrus watched her walk away. Damn, but she was yummy. He looked down at his hand, and then looked up over at her, this time his eyes wandering over her hair.

"You're welcome, sweetie," I said as I crouched down so she wouldn't have to look up at me. "It's all fixed up, thanks to the help of that nice guy, Cyrus. You remember him, for last night at the fuselage?" I asked rhetorically. "I have to go help him with his now, so I need to be on my way. If you need anything else, you know where to find me, hun. I'll definitely be back tonight to tuck you in, as I promised." I gave her a smile as I continued down to the beach and quickly washed my hands, then hurried back, tying my hair in a ponytail as I walked. "Okay, boss, let's get the rennovation under way."

"Let's get on it." he replied, moving towards his shelter. He looked back at her for a moment, and couldn't resist, teasingly adding, "Can you tuck me in, tonight?"

Sarah
Sarah just smiled and watched Heidi go, Sarah didn't sleep well last night. so she was sleepy, she didn't like sleeping alone with no other person near by. But tonight she would sleep better knowing that heidi would tuck her in.

I laughed as I followed him toward his shelter. "Only if you're a really good boy. Are spying on my other conversations makes you a very bad boy," I added with a grin. I stopped next to him in front of his shelter. "So what did we need to do again?"

"Only if you're a really good boy. Are spying on my other conversations makes you a very bad boy,"
He grinned. "Well...both of those are pretty appealing."
"So what did we need to do again?"
"Our shelters are pretty close already, which...I did not plan, by the way, this isn't a carefully constructed plot." he assured her. "There are two shelters on either side, that married couple, and the trolley dolly, I'll move mine next to the Gwen. For once, I don't want to live next door to a couple."
He began to lead her towards his shelter. "If anything happens in the night, I'll come a-running. And don't worry, I'm a light sleeper." he said, smiling. "Just help me move it a little, the shelter, won't take long to get set up again, beauty-honey."

"I really do appreciate it," I said with a smile. I thought about his description about the people with shelters near us and I studied him for a moment. I hadn't picked up on very much about the people sleeping near me, but then again, I did tend to live in my own little world. "You seem to know a lot about our fellow survivors. You must be very observant." Maybe he'd already met them. Most of the people I'd met so far I hadn't seen much of since meeting. In fact, the two people I'd met shortly before the crash, Brittany and John, I hadn't talked to for a while. "I should probably get to know my neighbors better in case I need to borrow a cup of sugar or something."

"I really do appreciate it,"
"Not a problem." he smiled.
"You seem to know a lot about our fellow survivors. You must be very observant."
"Yeah, I can be. Spent a lot of time being useless, sitting, just watching..." he replied, quickly adding, "But not like a voyeur or something."
"I should probably get to know my neighbors better in case I need to borrow a cup of sugar or something."
"Well, could be useful." he laughed. "Good idea for us all to stick together, I suppose."

JAKE
"Right, because it's so easy to bounce back from profound blood loss, severe dehydration, infection, fever...Did I miss the part where you were Wolverine? Adamantium claws and everything?"
"Is that what you're worried about? You think I'm one of the X-Men?" Jake asked Gwen, remembering back to his comic book days. But, Gwen did have a point, and suddenly he realised why she had been so against him being active so early. He had been feeling good... perhaps a little too good. His shoulder still hurt, and he still felt that he was moving at half the speed he used to, but besides that, he felt fine. Maybe she's right, he thought. I couldn't have healed this fast - in fact, it's almost damn near impossible. How could this have happened? "Maybe you have a point. For rest, I'm still going to go to sleep tonight, so maybe I'll sleep in tomorrow morning. I might have healed pretty fast, but I'm not Logan. I'm not invincible, so I'll take it easy, if it will ease your mind."
"Jasmine, make a note: arguing with this man is an exercise in futility,"
Jake was starting to get the feeling that Gwen's annoyed attitude towards him was more than just a stranger's simple frustration towards his stubborness; it even felt a little sisterly, like she was a long, lost sibling he had had in another life, and he was only just beginning to remember her, while he was literally getting accustomed to the feeling. How quaint, he thought, ...that's she getting all flustered up just because she doesn't agree with how I'm taking care of myself. "And telling this woman that this man knows what's best for himself won't ease her mind, despite the fact that said man has seen himself in worse situations, in the battlefield, with worse injuries. He doesn't even know why the hell he's still alive." he countered her, trying to match her quick sparkling wit, but satisfied with what he had said in his long comment.
He took a breath and tried to convince to convince Gwen further as she came to stand next to him. "Look, I know that nothing I can say can reassure you that I'll be okay if I'm not sitting down, doing nothing. Not even when the doctor gave me his own clean bill of health. But you're just going to have to trust me on this one, okay? I'm awake, I'm standing, and my infection is nearly completely gone. My body's fought it off, and if it's strong enough to do that to save me from death, then it can handle just about anything else that's thrown at it. And if I'm wrong, you can drag me back to Willo's tent and leave me there to take care of myself, if you like. I really find this whole 'sit down, shut up Jake' tough-love treatment to be really flattering, but you've done all you can for me, and I appreciate that. I never really got the chance to properly say thank you to you, or to Willo, Jack, John, or even Ana." At the mention of her name, Jake remembered what Gwen had said about the woman he'd become so intertwined with, for different reasons.
"Not sure, Sayid was working on the transceiver we retrieved from the cockpit. Maybe he had some success and they're trying to send out a signal. But frankly, I'm in no hurry to go back into that jungle."
"Sayid? Is that that Iraqi guy fighting with the blonde guy from my neck of the woods from the fight before?" Jake wondered as he looked up the beach, clearly seeing the party as they started to head out towards the jungle, with Ana in it's midst. Jake registered that there was some discomfort with Gwen towards the jungle, and he couldn't blame her. I'd rather not be in there for a while too, he thought, ...after being stuck in that damn tree for so long. But when Gwen affectionately punched him in the arm to regain his attention, he suddenly snapped out of looking after what he had been lost in thought about... Ana-Lucia. Realising he was staring at her long, raven-like hair flowing down her tanned shoulders, being blown about in the wind, he regained his composure, this time lowering his voice down a tone.
"Actually, I'm going to go see Ana off," he paused, not trying to shield himself in self-defence from Gwen's light-hearted jokes with any more clichés and boastful arguing, in all seriousness. But to show Gwen he had no hard feelings towards her and that the mutual ones were returned, he smirked slightly and lightly tapped her on the shoulder in return. "If you don't want to come, be my guest. But if not, hold the fort for me. Jasmine? Edmund? I'll be right back." Then he turned to leave, waliking up the beach towards the transciever party, pausing only to see if Gwen would join him momentarily.

Gwen crossed her arms in somewhat exaggerated defiance as Jake turned her own joke on her, dictating notes to Jasmine. But if he really had been in worse situations, on a battlefield no less, then she had no room to tell him how to behave. He was probably dealing with the difficulties of his situation better than she could, and she felt her authoritative stance soften a bit.
"I really find this whole 'sit down, shut up Jake' tough-love treatment to be really flattering, but you've done all you can for me, and I appreciate that. I never really got the chance to properly say thank you to you, or to Willo, Jack, John, or even Ana."
"Oh, it's my pleasure. I mean, it's not everyday that a Southerner with a puncture wound tells me that I'm funny. Or perhaps that was just the fever talking," she observed with a slight smile. Then she switched into apologetic mode. "Look, I don't mean to be an overbearing shrew, I swear. I'm just concerned, that's all. And anyway, don't think you're special--I've given the 'sit down, shut up' treatment to practically everyone 'round here."
She looked into his hazel eyes, waiting for a reaction, but they were clearly focused on the hiking party as it prepared to head out. Her own gaze lingered there until Jake gave a retaliatory punch and a smirk to her.
"If you don't want to come, be my guest. But if not, hold the fort for me. Jasmine? Edmund? I'll be right back."
"No, no, I should get back to work," she said, after some thought. "Fort-holding and all. But, um...tell Sayid to be careful. I mean, he probably already knows that, I just...well, I hope they all come back safely."

Willo came in from the other part of the camp.
"I swear to God, if I see another 15 year old girl, it will be too soon," he said, running a hand through his hair.
