"You don't need a tan, you need for that wound to heal," she insisted. "Y'know, you were much more agreeable when you were unconscious. And anyway, someone's got to look after you, since Ana's otherwise occupied." She glanced back up the beach, where the group near the fuselage seemed ready to head out to...wherever they were going.
She shook her head, finally relenting since he seemed determined. "Fine. We're just trying to sort through the unclaimed baggage, breaking the clothing down into different sizes. Anything else, we'll set aside and go through later. So if you really want to keep yourself busy, you're welcome to join us.
"And I never said you were a charity case," she stated, walking around him to pick up another suitcase.

Jinx smiled at Jake before continuing back to work, the whole time listening to the conversation about How Jake should be resting. Gwen Gave in so easily, so now Jake was part of the sorting party.

***Heidi & Cyrus enter from G4 - Jungle Outskirts Near Fuselage***
I walked through to the beach, still laughing. "Way too much information," I said through laughs. I made my way over to my tent sat down in the shade of it. "So, um, how do you eat these things? I've never even seen a mango before. I've lived a very sheltered life," I added in a joking tone.

"Well, Blue Sky, I guess I'm your down and rough teacher." he smiled. "D'you have anything sharp? Like a....wreckage shard, a broken mirror? Something sharp, but clean would be nice too, Angel-Eyes."

"No, I don't actually. It didn't cross my mind to find something like that although," I looked at the jungle, thinking about what was in there, then back at Cyrus, "I probably should." That was the first time in my life I'd ever though of finding some kind of weapon to defend myself with. It was a new, and very unpleasant thought.

He laughed slightly. "Not a weapon, Heidi-darlin'. Just to cut the mango." he said. "I doubt an ity-bity penknife would do much against that thing in the jungle anyhow, but don't you worry. It's stayin' in the jungle, if it was gonna come onto the beach, it would've."

"I know," I said with a smile. "I was just thinking it would be best to be prepared." I furrowed my brow. "And how are you so sure that thing wouldn't come out here? Maybe it's just waiting for an opportune moment. Like night time." The thought made a chill run up my spine and I hugged myself. "And what if there are other types of predators out there that come wandering out here when they realize we're all here? We don't exactly have doors to lock them out. I'd rather be safe than sorry."

He thought for a moment, and then hoped she wouldn't take his next offer the wrong way. "I could...try carving spears out of the wood 'round here. If you want, I'll sleep near your shelter. Protection purposes and such. Nothin' untrustworthy." he said. "My shelter's pretty close to yours anyway, just if it would make ya feel better, I could move it a little closer, change the entrance so it faces yours, sleep near the entrance...I'm not tryin' to come on to you or nothing.."

"I could...try carving spears out of the wood 'round here."
"If you show me how to, I can try to create my own spear," I said with a confident smile. I was determined to try and do things for myself as much as possible as I felt I wouldn't be of much use with, well, practically anything else.
"If you want, I'll sleep near your shelter.
"No, I trust you," I said with a small laugh. "But really, that's so much work, it's not necessary. You've already done so much for me." Images of being mauled by some monster started running through my mind. "Oh, who the hell am I kidding. How long would it take if I helped?"

JAKE
"I was more agreeable then because I was literally a vegetable. With all the juice drained right outta of him." Jake added, with forethought. Then he began to chuckle lightly at Gwen's comment about someone looking after him, touched by the fact that this woman, who had been a complete stranger to him yesterday, was looking out for his well-being. And as a defense mechanism, he found the humor in it. "So you think that because I'm off my feet for one day because some tree branch pierced my shoulder, that I need a babysitting service now? Gwen, you haven't met the real Jacob yet. I'm and up n' at 'em guy, not some guy who sits around waiting for his wounds to heal because he's become collateral damage. I roll with the punches, I don't let 'em keep me down. Please, trust me, I'm a big boy. I can take care of myself, okay?"
When Gwen finally accepted he wasn't going to retire, Jake smiled. "Thank you. But, thanks for caring. I know you didn't say I was a charity case, and I know you don't think I'm one, either. I just don't want people thinking I'm down for the count just yet. You'll be the first to know if anything happens to me... you, the doc, or Ana. Speaking of which," he started, looking up the beach in the direction Gwen had looked, unable to see Ana clearly from such a far distance. He could see a small group gathering though, and wondered what was going on. "... what is our Ana up to?"

Gwen listened with a bemused smile, toting the suitcase to her little spot of sand as Jake railed on about his superior healing powers and independence and not needing anyone. "Right, because it's so easy to bounce back from profound blood loss, severe dehydration, infection, fever...Did I miss the part where you were Wolverine? Adamantium claws and everything?" she rambled on, finally sighing in defeat. After all, he seemed convinced that he was perfectly fine.
She glanced over at Jinx. "Jasmine, make a note: arguing with this man is an exercise in futility," she said.
"... what is our Ana up to?"
"Not sure," she replied, walking up to stand beside him. "Sayid was working on the transceiver we retrieved from the cockpit. Maybe he had some success and they're trying to send out a signal. But frankly, I'm in no hurry to go back into that jungle."
She quirked an eyebrow at him. "Now does the real Jacob wanna' help us, or would you rather spout some more cliches about how self-reliant you are?" She gave him a light punch in his uninjured arm to regain his attention from the hiking party that seemed to be moving out.

"Jasmine, make a note: arguing with this man is an exercise in futility," Jinx nodded, and smiled faking to write down notes.
"I'll place that on my Remeber list." Jinx sighed and placed down her stuff when she noticed everyone about to leave. she hoped that everything would go smoothly, that jungle was in safe. and she worried about the Transciver party. she just hoped they remained smart.
"Hope they stay safe."

"Oh, who the hell am I kidding. How long would it take if I helped?"
He laughed. "Not that long, sweetie-curls." he said, glad he could be of help. "You wanna get to work on that, or should I play with your mangoes some more? I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I made one joke, now I'm just addicted to mango jokes."

"Ha, play with your own mangos," I said with a small laugh. "As for the task of rearranging your shelter, can it wait until after we eat? I'm starved. Got anything with you I can use as a knife?" I asked hopefully.

"No, sorry. No knife. Kinda weird, considering we just came from Austrailia. I thought those guys'd show us a real knife." he smiled. "I'll find something sharp, hold on." He stood.

"Alrighty," I said as I watched him get up and start walking. Damn but he was yummy. Catching myself staring again, I looked away and at the camp around me. My eyes came to rest on a group of people sorting luggage. I recognized Edmund and Jinx, but I hadn't yet met the other woman and the man with the bandage over his shoulder. I sent a friendly smile their way as I waited for Cyrus to return.

It was pretty obvious he'd never find anything like a knife. It needed to be sharp and strong enough to cut through the mango. Eventually, he found a mirror, and shattered it, taking a large piece and rushing back over to Heidi.
"This'll do, Heidi-darlin'." he said, pressing down on the shard, cutting it into the mango. "Well, hey, I think this might be the island equivalent of buying you dinn-agh!"
His hand slipped down the glass, cutting a thick line of blood down his palm. "Damnit!"

'Oh shit," I said as I saw the blood pooling in his hand. I put up a mental block against the queasiness that the sight of blood made me feel and quickly put the mango down as I reached into my tent, grabbing the rag that I'd cleaned after using it to clean up the cut on my forehead. I pressed it into his hand. "Here, squeeze this tight to stop the blood flow. I'll be right back."
I quickly got up and ran over to the group who'd been sorting clothes. "I'm sorry to interrupt, but I really need this," I said as I grabbed a shirt from a pile I hoped was the non-practical clothing pile.
Quickly making my way back, I sat down in front of him and gently took his hand. "Okay, let me see." I lifted up the rag and it wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Using a clean side of the rag, I dabbed at some of the blood still flowing. "Hold it tight again."
I took the shard of glass out of the mango and used it to cut a rip into the shirt, then ripped a strip of it off. "Okay, let's see how it's doing." I tucked my hair behind my ear and then took his hand again, lifting the rag. Most of the bleeding had stopped. Putting the rag aside, I began to wrap the strip of cloth around his hand, then tied it off on the top of his hand. "There," I said with a smile as I looked up at him. "That should be okay for now. Do you want me to find the doctor?"

He watched with amazement as she reacted quickly, calmly and practically. It wasn't exactly a life-threatening situation, but...the quickness, the gentleness...
He examined the bandaged cut, and then smiled at her, inwardly kicking himself for not saying 'thank you' straight away and just smiling dumbly at her. Like he was fifteen or something.
"There," I said with a smile as I looked up at him. "That should be okay for now. Do you want me to find the doctor?"
"Nah, it's fine, and...you're not a nurse?" he asked, smiling even wider at her. "Or maybe you at least have the uniform...."
He glanced down at the wound again, and then up at her. "Thank you." he said softly. He felt a slight urge to reach over and give her a small kiss on the cheek, but decided not to, in case she took it the wrong way.

"Nah, it's fine, and...you're not a nurse?" he asked, smiling even wider at her. "Or maybe you at least have the uniform...."
"No," I said with a small chuckle. "I have a cousin I'm kind of a second mother to so I have experience, is all," I smiled fondly as I thought of Bobby. "You boys always manage to be hurting yourselves," I added with a shake of my head.
"Thank you."
I thought about how trivial of a thing that was compared to all he'd done for me so far. "It was nothing," I said with a wave of my hand. "But you're welcome."
I ripped off another strip of the shirt and wrapped it around one end of the shard of glass, tying it off. It was the closets thing to a make-shift handle I could make. "I'm accident prone myself, so better to be safe than sorry."
With that done, I picked up the fruit and started to cut it, quickly holding it out over the sand as juice started dripping from it. It was a bit awkward with the shard of glass as a knife, but I managed. I handed a chunk of it to Cyrus. "Here ya go. Try not to get any on your bandage." I paused and chuckled, realizing I had just been lecturing a grown man. "Sorry, I was stuck in maternal mode still."
