"So does anyone have any clue where were you are now?"
He quickly gulped down his last, small piece of fish. He brushed off the sand from his hands and stood up to take a look at Paul's map. "Well we left Sydney for L.A. I think we are all up to date on that bit of information," he said sarcastically. "My guess is as good as any, I'd say we're somewhere in the Pacific. Perhaps around Figi. But obviously we're a little ways away from Figi, seeing as how the sodding rescue team hasn't exactly rescued us yet."

BROOKS
"We're on an island," Brooks said, dismissively. "Which island we're on doesn't really matter. What matters is that were on an island, and no one has come yet. There's no isle--no land--visible from the horizon. At least from this elevation. If the plane changed course, which I think it did, there's no way of knowing where we are."
Brooks frowned and pointed to the map. "Planes don't fly in straight lines. They fly in curves and a lot of it depends on weather and the jet stream, more so on. No one, just dropped on an island, would be able to tell you where you are. This is a fool's errand. We are nowhere."

Compeyson looked from Paul, to Un-named British Man, to Brooks. He listened to Brooks' gloomy but accurate assessment, and then tried for his best smile, slapping his hands together. "On the plus side, plenty of fish sticks."

"Look who's suddenly become an optimist," she remarked. "Not to sound like a fatalist, but Aaron has a point. We keep these signal fires burning every night, but to what end?"

"Not to sound like a fatalist, but Aaron has a point. We keep these signal fires burning every night, but to what end?"
"So what exactly are you saying, we give up sooner rather then later?" Neil asked, perhaps over simplifying things, but to he knew no matter what the others decided, he would be forced to go with the flow, or to live alone. At least it wouldn't hurt to get some clarification.

CINDY
She'd wandered up and listened to the conversation over the map. When Aaron made mention of the plane changing course, the scene replayed again in her head of the events from the pilot notifying the flight crew of communications problems on up to the crash. She came out of her thoughts and replied with a very delayed "It did" in her obviously Australian accent. At the confused looks she clarified. "The plane did change course."

PAUL
The irrational xenophobia of The Survivors began creeping up, building to a head again. It was a disgusting sight to behold and reminded Paul that he, and to a lesser extent Goodwin, were a bastion of the goodness within humanity amidst these people on the beach. He tried to stifle his disappointment at the defeatist rhetoric and fixed a condescending half-smile to his face.
"It did."
He turned to look at the source of the noise. One of the quiet ones. A potential candidate for adverse stimulus conditioning and eventual integration? Always good to keep an open mind and encourage deeper interaction...
"The plane did change course."
"How far into the flight?" He asked the woman with an encouraging nod. He patted a spot in the sand beside himself to encourage her to take a seat.

CINDY
"'Bout two hours," she said as she took a seat after Paul's encouragement to join them. As a flight assistant, she was used to addressing big groups of people but those people rarely ever listened as everyone assumed it could never happen to them. But it did happen to them and now she had everyone's undivided attention. She wrapped her arms around her drawn up knees feeling a slight discomfort at the intent gaze of everyone. Pushing past those feelings, she took on the mannerism expected of flight attendants who'd gone through training; calm, cool, collected. If you panic, the passengers panic. "We lost communication 'bout six hours in; we were turning back, heading toward Fiji. 'Round two hour later, we hit turbulence."

BROOKS
He thought for a second. He wished Kyle was in this discussion--to help him out. He felt like he was fighting against the wind here. "If we lost communication," he said frankly. "They don't know where we are. Now, this doesn't mean we should give up hope--not by any means. What this means is we have to stop thinking of this that it's going to end any second."
He didn't want to get into details at this point--it would be foolish.
"What we need to do is start preparing for the long haul," he spoke, glancing around. "We need to accept the fact that we're going to have to live off this island if we're going to survive."

PAUL
"They might not know our exact location but they'll start doing sweeps. If we were only a few hours out when we crashed, then it shouldn't take more than a few more days for rescue to find us, nicht wahr?"
He had to keep everyone on the beach. But he also couldn't draw too much suspicion.
"I think we should give them a few more days to find us. If they don't, then perhaps you are right, Aaron, and we should begin finding ways to live off the island. Besides, in a way, we already are living off the island. We've made shelters, haven't we?"

Compeyson listened with growing despair as the odds were slowly stacked up against them with every sentence that came out of Cindy's mouth.
"I think we should give them a few more days to find us. If they don't, then perhaps you are right, Aaron, and we should begin finding ways to live off the island. Besides, in a way, we already are living off the island. We've made shelters, haven't we?"
He slowly raised his hand. "I vote to do what Paul says."

KYLE
He walked into the conversation part way through. He simply sat aside, let people speak their thoughts. It would give him a better idea of what they should do next. "You all seem to forget the most important point," not much of an entrance he would agree, but he only felt he would get involved if need be. "They know we're here," he said pointing into the jungle. "We can wait a few more days fine," he said looking straight at Paul. "But we've been here 6 days, how long until we face facts that they've turned around and gone home." He paused for a moment as he observed their current camp site. "We'll wait it out a few more days, but if they come back, we move into the jungle...no questions asked."

PAUL
"I vote to do what Paul says."
Paul couldn't help but smile at the full show of support from the fellow who had first encountered Paul when he revealed himself to The Survivors. This fellow, Compeyson, consistenly made Paul's job easier. He liked Compeyson.
Kyle, however...
"We'll wait it out a few more days. But, if they come back, we move into the jungle... no questions asked."
Fear was the tactic of discourse here. Best to use fear to discourage moving into the jungle just as much as it was being used to encourage moving into the jungle. "I wasn't here when they came. But I do know that if there are people living in the jungle, they'll be nervous to come out and attack us so long as we stick to the beaches and to open areas. I'm willing to bet there are more of us than there are of them. This is why they chose night, yes? Sie, ah, they would attack at night so as to not expose themselves because they fear us. Go into the jungle and we lose all our advantages. They use our numbers against us."
He shook his head and looked up into the eyes of everyone in the camp. "No. We stay here or stick to the beaches. When rescue comes, professionals will take care of this. If we go on some silly adventure to save unsere Freunde, it'll wind up just like München Olympics."

KYLE
He almost immediately turned and walked towards Paul. He walked right to him, they were face to face. "You're right..." it was obvious that Kyle wasn't agreeing with him for the majority of what Paul had said. It was more of an angered agreement. "You weren't there." Kyle turned to the rest. "Now they came the first night, they took 3 of us," Kyle was looking from person to person before he looked back at Paul, "Does that sound like their scared to you?"

GOODWIN
He stood with the rest of the group. He was trying to listen to Ben's advice. 'Don't get involved,' but if Goodwin didn't say anything, it would draw a lot more attention to him. "Maybe Kyle's right, maybe we should move into the jungle. I mean they already know we're here, if they want to find us they won't have to look to hard if we're on the beach." Goodwin didn't mind one way or the other. Even if they did move into the jungle, it wouldn't take Goodwin to long to let Ryan and the others know where they were.

Cassie
"A lot of these people won't know how to survive in a jungle, so what do we do with them? they'll either be the first captured, or the first to die. i think our best bet is to hold this ground and go out fighting. maybe a couple of us could go into the jungle and keep watch, those who know how to fight in that current situation."
Cassie tossed her leaf to the ground and looked up, “we have wounded and we can’t carry them through the jungle until rescue comes, if or when it does.”

BROOKS
"I have an idea," he said, softly at first. "A group of us--we can determine who later--we go into the jungle and find a place to hold out there." Brooks sat down and, in a calm manner began to draw on the ground. While he spoke in his most rational tone since he got here, he looked up to Kyle for a second, hoping he would follow his intent. "We will have better cover in the jungle. We find a place that we can defend if the time comes. Like the boy scouts say, 'be prepared.'"
He stopped and looked at the group. He sighed and wiped the sweat from his brow as he scanned the faces of the people in the group.
"We're stuck on this island and, for better or worse, with each other," Brooks said. "But when they took three of us, it didn't just become about surviving a plane crash. It became about surviving a war."

PAUL
"A war?" Paul's tone was utterly incredulous. "It could not possibly be a war. We don't even know who these people are! You are afraid. All of us are. But we can't allow fear to turn into other things. Uglier things."
He shook his head as if there were more complex arguments he had to offer against Aaron's position but couldn't articulate them in English quite well.
Getting up from his spot on the sand, trying his best to ignore Kyle's proximity, he offered one last statement before wandering away from the group. "We go into the jungle and we have no idea what happens. We stick to the beaches and we know we'll be rescued sooner or later. We also know that if we go into the jungle, we could be ambushed at any corner. But if we stay on the beaches, we know when they are coming from a good distance off. I'm a rational person so I'm going with the rational choice. I leave the rest of you to make your choices as individuals as well."
And, of course, the noumenal/phenomenal rational choice model here would be an excellent research opportunity...

((OOC: Sorry it took me so long to reply, I've just been really busy lately))
"But when they took three of us, it didn't just become about surviving a plane crash. It became about surviving a war."
He let out a laugh of disgust, "A war? Maybe you've forgotten, but we've have kids here. Are we suppose to just throw into the middle of this?"
KYLE
He nodded to Brooks as he drew out his plan. He then turned and faced the rest of the group, "You all seem to be missing the point here. We take a select few. We set them up in the jungle to guard treelines dividing the beach and the jungle," Kyle decided to go with Brooks' plan. It was the best plan they had until the others were ready to give up on the rescue team and head inland. "Trust me," Kyle said as he looked over to Paul. Kyle of course had other motives with their current plan, "No one will get hurt."
