"Decades ago, they didn't have the same technology as us. Anyone who got lost, stayed lost. Unlike today. We'll be found. It's certain, it's just...a big ocean."
"Yes, I suppose. This whole tendency toward cool-headed rationality is terribly annoying, by the way," she said with a wry smile. "I should probably get back to Sarah and make sure she's alive and well, and intact. Do you need anything before I go? Are the bandages okay for now?"

"They're absolutely fine. Thank you," smiled Severin encouragingly. "You know, I might be able to move shortly. Maybe hop around without damaging my leg..."

"If Jack says that you can," she cautioned. "I realize we seem to share this innate aversion to idleness, but it is alright to occasionally rest and let someone else take care of you, Darling."

"I have some issues with being disabled," he reminded her. "I just...dislike being helpless, having to rely on someone for care. Not that you're not doing a wonderful job, though."

"Oh, sure, I'm a regular Clara Barton," she said dismissively, aware that most of her attentive care was still prompted by feelings of guilt. By the fact that he'd placed himself in harm's way for her sake, even though he might not see it that way.
"And you're certainly not helpless, or disabled. You're just...temporarily benched. You'll be on mango-gathering and signal-burning soon enough," she noted. "But there's no need to rush things."

"Oh, sure, I'm a regular Clara Barton,"
"Perhaps more 'Florence Nightingale'," he smiled.
"And you're certainly not helpless, or disabled. You're just...temporarily benched. You'll be on mango-gathering and signal-burning soon enough, But there's no need to rush things."
"If you say so. I still feel a little useless lying back and doing nothing," he admitted, attempting to sit up more.

"When the doctor's orders were to lie back and do nothing, I don't think anyone can hold it against you. Besides, I think we've both fulfilled our 'treacherous jungle hike' quote for the time being," she remarked, getting to her feet. "I should get back to Sarah. I'll check back on you soon, okay?"

He smiled at Gwen, and then something odd happened that made him feel guilty. He felt the sudden, very strong urge to lean up and kiss her passionatly.
He decided to put it down to both his illness and Gwen's remarkable beauty. "I'll see you soon, then. I'll try not to go anywhere," he smiled, hoping she didn't notice that his eyes ever so briefly lingered on her lips.

"Yes, that is the major downside of not being on the plane anymore. Can't exactly strap people into their seats and tell them to stay put. I suppose I'll just have to trust you," she said. "I'll let you know when Jack and the others return. Shouldn't be too long now. I'll see you later."

Severin liked to keep himself occupied. Because when he didn't, he tended to think more about things he felt he shouldn't think about. For example, right now, when he was thinking about his attraction to Gwendolyn Havers.
Leonora was still alive. Catatonic, but alive. And he'd treated her as alive for a very long time despite the objections of others. He'd refused to date. To ship her off to a home. He talked to her, dressed her, took her places in the hopes that something, someday, would simulate her into coming back.
And now, what? Had it taken only seven days to become attracted to another woman? Even if she was gorgeous and compassionate and funny and intelligent. If he hadn't been injured, he'd be occupying himself. Although granted, he'd be spending much of his time with Gwen.
The biggest clue that he was attracted to her beyond her obvious beauty was that he wanted to protect her. Perhaps his need and want to protect others was a fault, a flaw that many women found annoying. But he wanted to be on his feet, protecting her from Ana and her anxieties.
But he wasn't. He was here. He was injured. He was thinking about Gwen, and feeling a little guilty about his lack of guilt.
