"I'm a photographer for National Geographic. I was there on assignment....No, not the naked women... above my paygrade, I'm afraid."
"Wow, that's...that must be very interesting work, even at a lower paygrade," she said. "So this place is probably a cakewalk for you."

"I have walked on cake before--and it's nothing like this," he said, lowering his voice to a serious tone.

"Well, I didn't actually mean literally. And I probably don't want to know the details," she said. "Maybe I should just stick with Sarah's assessment that you talk funny. Seems pretty accurate."

"What kind of funny?" he asked, curious. "Like, funny, I'm laughing funny... or funny I ate seafood at a place in Kansas funny? Oh! Yes. The thing. Right. You see, I made a bet with the popstar. She didn't think I could get you to laugh--but you did. You laughed."

"You what?" she asked, tilting her head at him. "You made a bet? With Jasmine?"

"That's not why--" he said, realizing he should have shut his mouth. "I mean, this wasn't like an act or anything." He began to talk, making weird gestures with his hands which seemed to have no connection to what he was saying. "I thought you looked overly stressed, so I asked her what made you laugh, cause, well, that's my thing. She said she didn't know, and then when I told her my plan she seemed to think I couldn't make you laugh, which I toke offense to and... made a bet with her."
He shrugged and nodded, turning his attention to the ground.

"Right, well, I'm so glad that no-fun, serious Gwen can be a source of amusement for others," she said, folding her arms across her chest.

"Hey now! Don't be a downer frowner," he said, trying to avoid following her stance, which ended with his hands on his hips in sort of a Superman pose. "I wasn't doing this out of amusement. I don't buy this whole no-fun Gwen persona, either. No-fun people do not watch romantic comedies featuring zombies. Somewhere, in there, there is a fun girl wanting to come out of this shell--that was formed out of necessity but is obsolete here. Besides, do I look amused to you?"

Already annoyed with the fact that her sense of humor was a source of gambling, she really didn't feel like having her insecurities and shortcomings analyzed by a stranger. "Look, I'm glad you won your bet and all," she said, "but as long as people are counting on me for food, water, whatever, I'm afraid you're stuck with no-fun Gwen. If you'll excuse me, I need to get back to looking after Sarah."

"Yeah, sorry, I kind of sounded like my dad there," he said, sadly. "Sorry. I-yeah."
He walked away, shaking his head.
"This is like She's All That and I'm Paul Walker," he paused and shuddered for a second at that thought.

*Nikki and Paulo enter from 'Nikki and Paulo's Shelter'*
The sand was warm and soft on Nikki's hands as she plopped down into the sand with her copy of 'Treasure Island' at her side.
'Still reading that huh?' Paulo said with an amused smile as he watched her leaf through the book to find her page.
'Yeah' Nikki replied abruptly before adding ' Y'know I don't read enough. Can't remember the last thing I read in full'
Paulo stood for a while just watching the sea pull its way in and out as his girlfriends eyes flew back and forth across the page before he excused himself under the pretense of seeing what food was left and walked back towards the camp.
*Paulo leaves for F3- Area of Survivours Camp*

Little Sarah
When Gwen returned she notice a lot less happy Gwen, so she automatically assumed it was this guys G's fault. "Want me to hit him, and what he do?" she smiled.

"Want me to hit him, and what he do?"
"Hmm? Oh, no, it was nothing," she dodged the little girl's question, glancing over at Taliya and smiling warmly to overcompensate for the mood that Sarah had picked up on. "We're all just concerned about the people who went to get water and hoping they'll be back soon.
"And I think perhaps you should refrain from hitting and/or kicking anyone else. Unless it's Mr. Sawyer." She patted the girl's head and went back to work on one of the sandcastle's walls.

Little Sarah
"Hmm? Oh, no, it was nothing, We're all just concerned about the people who went to get water and hoping they'll be back soon." Lies all lies, grown-ups never told kids the truth... and Technically Little Sarah didn't know if Gwen was really lying; she just guessed. "And I think perhaps you should refrain from hitting and/or kicking anyone else. Unless it's Mr. Sawyer."
"Well come of the grown-ups deserve it, like that evil Dr. Arts or whatever his name is..." she growled at his name.

"Oh, I would tend to agree. Dr. Arzt could definitely use a kick to the shins," she observed. "But actually, nevermind. I did not say that out loud." She tried to busy herself with the task of sand castle repair again.

***enter Grace from the jungle outskirts***
She probably looked like she had the devil on her tail, Grace thought, as she practically ran out of the jungle onto the beach. Nice, safe, open beach. She could see people and they could see her. Incidents like the one in the jungle couldn't happen without someone else interfering. Breathing deeply, she kicked off her shoes and walked right into the surf. The waves rolling in and out around her ankles calmed her, as it always did. Even so, she wouldn't be going into the jungle anytime soon.

WILLO
Willo set down his copy of Popcorn just in time to see Grace move down the beach like her feet were on fire. He glanced around and pulled down the corner of his book, marking his page. He stood up and brushed off his pants, before slowly walking over to Grace. He walked up next to her, smiled with a half wave. He knew she could hear him coming with his feet in the water--but he was the only one who knew. He resisted asking her anything--he was without his notebook anyway--he would just be there if she needed him. It was a role he knew well.

It was good to see a friendly face. It helped calm her lingering uneasiness, and Grace was able to manage a little smile of her own. She could vent and Willo would just be there for it. Comforting thought for the one who usually ended up as the one vented to. So up came her hands, and she started to sign. "So I was walking in the jungle and this guy just appeared. I don't know, I've seen him around camp but he was creepy. God, he was so creepy! He just stood right up in front of me, in my face, and I don't know what he was saying but it sounded bad. Like he was angry. I don't like him. He scares me!" She had started pacing sometime in her rant, her signs becoming more agitated. Stress.

WILLO
He nodded. Signs were not always clear, but it was clear to him that she was upset. After about a half a second of thought he realized there wasn't a lot that could upset Grace--she could hear but not understand people. And he knew some of those signs. But mainly it was body language. He knew the sign for a male, too... that was an easy one. Willo's nails dug into the palm of his hand as he nodded as she signed, trying to at least pretend to keep up. After she was done he unclenched his fist and put his right hand on her back and his arm over her sholder, trying to calm her down.

After a moment spent staring out at the vast ocean that separated them from the rest of the world, Grace pulled her notebook out and flipped to a clean page. "I hate it here," she wrote, unknowingly echoing what Ethan had told her earlier in the jungle. "I hate sitting around pretending like we're still just seconds away from rescue. I want to go home." ***Flashback*** abclost.proboards40.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=rpgbios&thread=1188412138&page=1
