"You're starting to sound like one of those evangelical preachers, Or better yet...one of those cult leaders that gets everyone to follow them to a backwater retreat where you manage to talk everyone into killing themselves for the greater good."He stared up at her with violent shock, and then slammed his fists down on his plate, shaking the whole table. He stood, and glared directly at her with gritted teeth. "I am not like that. Say it. Say I'm not like a preacher. Say it." He couldn't be like that. Not like those people. flashback triggered: abclost.proboards40.com/index.cgi?board=rpgbios&action=display&thread=1176881922&page=1#1180303886

"So you can just call me a rescue boat and I'll be on my merry way. Honestly, I wouldn't mention it to a soul."
He gave a short, little laugh. "I'm sorry. The answer's no."
"I'm not foolish enough to trust you yet. I'll take the non-sedated pancakes thank you very much."
He looked over at her, with a slight look of disappointment. As if he'd even think of drugging her food. Oh. Wait.
He delicately began to eat his pancakes. "You know, you might not believe me, but I'm a good person. Really, I am. We're all good people, doing great things." He looked over at her. "Do you consider yourself a good person? Or better yet, a good person who's done something great?"

"If it wasn't for the fact you were holding me hostage right now, I'd be fairly impressed by that."
"Thank you." he stated, moving around the table. "I didn't lie to you. Not really. We are on an island, I am the resident doctor, but...we have other, more noble purposes then just building a community and there would be a few too many questions if rescue boats turned up."
He took a seat. "I'm very sorry to tell you, Ms Harkness, but you can't go home. Not quite yet, anyway."

"Do you really expect me to eat anything you made after what you did to me? How do I know, you're not just going to drug me again?"
"I won't drug you again unless you give me reason to." he replied, standing, ready to tackle her if she tried to run or touch his CD collection. "Everything will be sorted out soon, and I know this is a very stressful and bizarre time for you. But things'll be fine. No one's going to hurt you."

"Where the devil am I?"
"I'd love to explain it all to you, Ms Harkness. I'm afraid it would be a little overwhelming right now." he replied cooly. "Now, if you'd like to get up, I'm prepared some breakfast and it's getting cold."

He smiled encouragingly at her. He sat down on the edge of the bed. "Sleep well?"

"Ms Harkness?" he said, raising his voice. "Samantha?" He unlocked the door, and with a cheery demeanour, walked right in. "Wakey wakey, eggs and bakey."

Preston had been awake for a while, having spent the night on the sofa. He was preparing Samantha's breakfast and hoping she wouldn't attack him when he opened the door. For now, he was making pancakes and thinking about how to tell Ben.
He'd give her breakfast, and then go find Ben. She wouldn't be his problem anymore, she'd be guarded by...Pryce, or Jason or whoever.
He set the plate down on the dining table, and then went to his bedroom door. He knocked lightly.

Preston rushed to one of the doorways, waiting for the rumbling to stop. When it finally did, he looked at Juliet, then at Amelia, and then headed directly for the door. "What was that?"

ADAM
"I know the host picks the book; but seriously, Julie, he wouldn't read this in the damn bathroom." he ranted, sighing and placing the book down.

ADAM
He waved a hand dismissively, ignoring Juliet's comment completely. "It's not even literature. It's popcorn."
Amelia leaned forward. "And why isn't it literature, Adam? I'm dying to know."
"There's no metaphor. It's by-the-numbers religious hocum-pocum."
"No metaphor?"
"It's science-fiction!" he scoffed. He paused for a moment, but tact didn't allow him from saying what came next. "Now I know why Ben isn't here."

ADAM
"I do agree that the book was crap though Adam. But why don't we let someone speak who has anything contrary to add?!"
He scowled at Aaron, opening his mouth to speak when Juliet began first.
"Adam, just because you don't like something doesn't nullify its validity as a valuable piece of modern literature. Preston, you were saying...?"
PRESTON
"Oh, well, just that Carrie the character is based on two girls he used to teach, who met very tragic endings themselves. Years of social awkwardness that, for one of them at least, cultivated in suicide." he said calmly and simply. "It taught King that sometimes there are no happy endings."
He looked up, and then at Adam. "And I think it's...well, the movie was really good. And I like the poem she wrote...where is it...." He began to flick through the book until he found it. He cleared his throat, and read aloud, "Jesus watches from the wall, but his face is cold as stone. And if he loves me - as she tells me - why do I feel so all alone?"

"Well, perhaps you could be a little more specific than 'just plain awful, "And actually I'd like to hear what Preston has to say about King's inspiration for the book. Maybe it'll give us a sense of context."
Preston smiled back at Juliet, and opened his mouth to speak when Adam interrupted again. "Inspiration?" scoffed the shorter man. "Please. There's absolutely none."

"So, would anyone like to start off the discussion?"
"Oh, well...actually, I didn't read the book like I said..." began Preston, a little unsure. "But I read On Writing by Stephen King, and he said the inspiration for Carrie was-"
"Oh, who cares?" grumbled Adam. "This was...well, it was just plain awful, wasn't it?" He looked at everyone expectedly, as Preston bowed his head down in submission.

AMELIA
"Sofia is...enthusiastic. She's passionate. That's not necessarily a bad thing. I mean, look at Danny and Colleen. She just needs to...I dunno, find her place here and be content with it. I'm just not sure why that requires putting me in the crosshairs."
"Well, nevermind about her." said Amelia, with a dismissive wave of her hand. "And that temper of Danny's will get him in trouble someday, you just wait." Amelia moved to help with the cheese dip. "I hope you don't mind that I brought along Preston, I should've told you. He's just lonely, that's all."

AMELIA
"She came storming in here, demanding to know what it is I do around here, what makes me so special. And frankly, if she wants my job so badly, she's welcome to it,"
"Perhaps a door lock is advised." she said, smiling sympathetically. "Well, it can't go on. Ben, or Bea or someone will have to talk to her. Let her know how things work around here, although she should know by now."

AMELIA
"You just missed Sofia, And you can imagine how well that went."
She sighed deeply. "I wish I couldn't imagine." she replied. "What did she say? Oh, actually, I don't want to know. She's just jealous of you and that's all there is."

AMELIA
"Amelia, would you mind giving me a hand in the kitchen?"
"Of course." she said, smiling kindly and standing, heading into the kitchen with Juliet.
PRESTON
"I really like it around here!"
"It's a really nice home." he agreed, saying it loudly so Juliet would hear the compliment.

AMELIA AND ADAM
"Same for you, Amelia? We'll give the others a few more minutes to arrive before we start."
"Oh, yes please." smiled Amelia.
"I'll have coffee." instructed Adam.

"What can I get you to drink?"
"Oh, just some tea, please." he asked, smiling and taking a seat across from Adam. His eyes travelled around the house, taking in every detail.
