"En cuanto a usted, un burro sabe mas que tu**."
He smiled back. Yeah. He was in there.

"What did you just say?"
He smiled a little. She looked like she was ready to jump him. "Oh, just something Gwen taught me how to say, it was just...hey, if I could choose to be stranded with someone..." He deepened his voice again. "Tendré siempre pesadillas"
Tendré siempre pesadillas = I will always have nightmares

"What'd my friend Gwen say exactly?"
"Pfft. Who cares?" he said. "She's not as beautiful as you. And I'm kind of scared the tall guy will eat me if I talk to her too long." He paused, and then deepened his voice.
That's right, Leslie. You're Antonio Banderas.
"Tu cara me asusta..."
Tu cara me asusta = your face frightens me

"He won't be the only one."
"D'you remember me? I'm Dr Leslie Arzt? On the plane, I got my foot stuck in the toilet and some people had to get me out?" he asked, coming closer. "Well, nevermind about that, I guess. I was just talking to your friend Gwen, she said you've been pretty busy. Latino, eh? You know, I have some latino blood myself, from like...eight generations back. I live in New Jersey now, but eight generations ago, I wouldn't have."

He strode up to her confidently. "Hey, Ana." Say something un-related to what you're thinking about. "Damn, that guy is dying slow."

He saw Ana stalk off, meaning she would be alone doing...whatever it was she did when she was alone. She probably had pillow fights with Gwen or something.
He chuckled lightly to himself. Yeah, right. In his explicit dreams.
He waited for a short while, and then yawned loudly, walking off in the direction Ana had gone.

"And I can finally have a nice long rest."
"For how long? The next 50 days? That's what I'd do." he said, yawning in agreement. He didn't lean back like she did, fearing she would get the wrong idea.

"It's okay. I promised Severin and Sayid that I'd keep my distance. Not exactly the Oceanic way to be instigating fights among passengers, directly or indirectly. Infuriating as those passengers may be."
"You weren't responsible for me fighting Sawyer, that was pretty much all me." he replied. "I say 'fighting', I mean, 'beating the living crap out of', because really, it wasn't a fight, it was a beat-down, and Ana just got a lucky shot in. But to the point, it was my decision to attack Sawyer. It's not like you bumped into me at a restaurant while we were both wearing shades, and you discreetly passed me a name and address."

"I wonder if she even remembers why she's upset with me. Or is just spending all her energy concentrating on the fact that she is upset with me. Because at first, she had a problem with my not telling everyone that the plane was off-course. She has the exact same information now, but do you see her broadcasting it on the coconut cortex? Oh, nooo."
Well, if she comes near me again, I'll kill Jake and make her watch.
"Well, if she comes near either of us again, we just ignore her." he said. "Probably easier said than done, but worth a try."

"Look, this is one of those perfect 'kissing' moments with the moon and the water and the firelight, but everything is so...screwed up. Including me. And it wouldn't be fair to you. Because I like you, Ethan. I do. I like the way things are between us, and I don't want to lose that. I've already lost too much."
"Well..." he began. "You don't have to worry about losing me anytime soon."
"Ugh, what is she doing? That woman has some bloody cheek."
Ana's stare just angered him further. He was already furious with himself for completely embarrassing himself, and was trying now to not think of the fact Gwen had shot him down completely. "What is it with her? Just a violent control freak? Because that's something we need." he growled, still looking across at Ana.

Ethan rubbed his nose, and looked up. Ana-Lucia. Staring right at him, and he stared back.
What was she looking at? What exactly? Like he wasn't embarassed enough, now Ana was giving him a death glare. Eventually, his fists tightened, and he looked back down.
LESLIE ARZT
There was Ana-Lucia. Still a hottie. Well, no time like the present. He slicked back his hair, adjusted himself, and headed over.

"Oh, Ethan, I...I'm sorry,"
He froze, and instantly began to avoid her eyes.
"The pilot...Eric. He...well, he meant a great deal to me. I'm still...I'm finding it hard to accept that he's gone. So maybe I just need time. I know that's a crap line that people say when they're trying to be nice, but I'm not just saying it to be nice. That is how I feel right now. Please...please don't be angry with me."
He was silent for a moment, looking away from her. "Wow, uh...awkward." he said, closing his eyes briefly and hoping for another plane crash as a distraction. "I'm...not angry, it's...completely my fault, it's only been four days, and I'm already...I'm sorry. I am. I just...I guess I really do like you, a whole lot, and there's the stress of all that's happened, and...I'm just...maybe I should go and die of embarrassment somewhere else." He forced a smile.

"Whereas the second-grade teacher constellation is much more...reliable. Steadfast,"
He smiled. "Reliable. Yeah." he said quietly in an uncertain tone. He wasn't reliable. He was lying to her, after all. He sat up a little. He wanted to tell her everything, just spill his guts about everything and then face whatever consequences came next. Chances are, if he told her the whole truth and nothing but, she'd leave. She'd be angry at him, she'd hate him. She had good reason to, after all.
And then his mind, his rational thought, stopped driving. It was what happened whenever he was about to do something he knew he wasn't meant to, and that covered a lot of things. Like kissing Gwen, which was what he was leaning in to do now, raising one hand to cradle her cheek.

"And yet it's obscured by Buxomess Contrarius, attention-seeker that it is. Which is just to the left of its partner constellation, Doctorus Saintian."
He laughed, leaning back a little more on his elbows. He looked over at her, and then looked up at the night sky again. "And then...prettiest stewardess...the beautiful flight attendant." He paused for a moment. "A little difficult for that particular star to burn much brighter."

"Yes, that one does burn rather brightly. And uh...Southernus Greedius, the hoarding Southern packrat,"
"And let me see..." he wondered, laughing. "Buxomess Uselessness....that would be the lazy blonde."

"I might have reason to believe it. But...I dunno, sometimes it's nice to think there's someone or something watching out for us. That there's a...purpose, I guess."
"I don't really have defined beliefs in anything." he said simply, drumming his now free fingers. "I just know I don't believe in astrology, God, the death penalty, communism or that a sci-fi show will ever survive on Fox."
He leant forward a little, and glanced up at the stars. He paused. "So you have virgo and leo and those ones...and the less known ones, which are harder to see, like...latinos pissoffedatus...the angry latino cop."

"whereas Virgo's are modest, orderly and self-sufficient. Of course, we're also prone to perfectionism, criticism, and hypochondria. If you believe in that sort of thing..."
"I'm afraid I don't. I don't believe in astrology, big clumps of rock having an affect on our lives on earth. It's just superstition that's persisted, like a lot of traditional beliefs." he said, and then smiled at her. "This is just further proof of how amazingly boring I am, but I keep my feet on the ground when it comes to stuff like that."

"Which is something we could use right about now,"
He laughed along with her. "True enough."
"Is there one for Virgo?"
"Ah, yes..." His eyes searched through the dark sea of stars until he saw what he was looking for, and traced the constellation. "Virgo, which is pretty obviously the virgin. Which sucks for that constellation, being the only thing you're known for. It's must better to be known as..." He traced another with her. "A lion, Leo."

"Do it again,"
He smiled. "Well, yes ma'am." he whispered quietly, raising her delicate hand, partially encased in his larger and rougher one. He traced the constellation with her, not thinking about anything other then her hand in his. He wasn't thinking about the man dying a few metres away from them, not about his deception, not about Ana-Lucia, and not even about his own guilt which had been eating away at him. Just about her soft skin creating mild warmth against his hand. "Aquarius, water carrier."

"How about that one? Not Venus, is it?"
He kept trying to look at the stars as he talked about them, but instead found himself looking back at her. "That's...that's...well, here." He suddenly took one of her hands in his, and raised it, tracing the stars with their hands. Every so often, his eyes locked onto hers. "That would be the archer, Sagittarius. You can see the outline of the arrow."
