"Bye James, see you around"
"Yeah, see you later, Ruby" James replied, smiling at Ruby as she passed.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude, I just...I wasn't aware there was a Marshal on board. It was a bit...surprising," she stammered.
"Yeah, I know what you mean" James replied understandingly, turning back to Gwen. "If there was a Marshal on board, that means there was a prisoner there with him...that's enough to surprise anyone". James himself had been somewhat taken aback by Ruby's revelation; he had experienced enough conflicts with law enforcement to know that Marshals rarely travelled on long haul flights without some sort of captive in tow.
"I'm still in your good graces, aren't I? As long as I keep feeding you," she asked the dog. "Same goes for you as well, I hope," she then remarked to James with a weak smile.
"Don't worry" James smiled encouragingly. "You've done nothing to get into my bad books...yet" he added, winking light heartedly.

"You've done nothing to get into my bad books...yet"
She glanced up at the sun. "Well, it's not quite noon. Just give me time," she grinned. If he'd already met Ana, then he'd probably already gotten an earful of Gwen's many faults and shortcomings. Yet he was still being civil.
"Anyway, the offer of breakfast still stands," she said, starting back toward the group which she observed had suddenly dwindled in number. In fact, only Ethan was left standing there as Cyrus walked off.
She turned back to the dog and waved at him. "You can come, too, boy. Probably be wanting some water after all those salty pretzels," she offered.
"So, James, do you recall seeing any passengers that looked like prisoners?" she inquired.

"Anyway, the offer of breakfast still stands,"
"You've no idea how much I'd appreciate that" James replied, suddenly aware of how hungry he really was. "Wow" he exclaimed dryly, moving after her and seeing for the first time how empty the camp had become. "I've been told that I can clear a room before, but an entire beach? That's some sort of new record, even for me".
"So, James, do you recall seeing any passengers that looked like prisoners?" she inquired.
"Not really" James replied, frowning to himself contemplatively. He tried thinking back to when he had boarded the plane, but his mind had been severely sidetracked by other things back then. He had payed little attention to the people around him and now wished that he had been more observant. "I don't remember seeing anyone wearing handcuffs...then again I don't really remember what the Marshal looked like, either. Perhaps if I saw him again, I'd be able to remember who he was sat with...I mean, if he had a prisoner, they would have been sat next to him, don't you think?".

"I've been told that I can clear a room before, but an entire beach? That's some sort of new record, even for me".
She laughed. "They were all just here, really," she assured him. "Apparently everyone has better things to do, which is...odd."

She nodded, taking in his words. "Exactly. As far as I know, the flight crew weren't informed of any prisoner transport," she explained. "But then again, I was an eleventh-hour replacement and probably didn't get all the pre-flight info. I wouldn't even have been on that plane if...if I hadn't decided to cut my trip short."

Vincent only understood one word; water, but the canine messiah's encouraging hand gesture told him that it was OK for him to follow. He bounded happily after her and the strange man, remaining just behind them so as to observe them both; either one could easily lead him to a potential second breakfast.

Ray
The Morning was bright and shinny not a bug in the tent, when he woke he got up to take a walk. It wasn't long after Gwen got up, but she was busy at work and he didn't want to disturb her. But now it was time to see if he could be any help, after all it was time some of the blame got lifted off the shoulders of his Gweny.
With a smile he placed his hands over her face and disguised her voice, "Guess who."

"They were all just here, really," she assured him. "Apparently everyone has better things to do, which is...odd."
"Perhaps they've all gone to Ana and Mason's joint stand up show" James replied dryly.
"Exactly. As far as I know, the flight crew weren't informed of any prisoner transport," she explained.
"That seems strange" James frowned. "Perhaps he was put on last minute, too. If he wasn't quite so dead, I'd go and see what he looks like...try and -"
"Guess who."
James raised an eyebrow disbelievingly before turning away again to hide his incredulous expression. This was almost as disturbing as whatever was living in the jungle. Still, the man's interuption was nevertheless lucky in one respect - it had de-railed a particularly Investigative train of thought that he had recently been incredibly reluctant to board, however naturally it came to him.

Holding little Sarah's hand, I exited the tent to find that most of the people who'd been milling about had moved on. I looked around for Cyrus, furrowing my brow when I realized he was gone.

He saw Heidi looking around for Cyrus, and said to her in a toneless voice, "He went to take a piss in the jungle. He'll be back." He rubbed his eyes clear, glancing down at little Sarah. Kids. Just great.

"Oh," I said to Ethan. He seemed bothered about something. I turned my head to the side as I tried to figure out what happened to the guy who was so nice the first day. "Everything okay?"

"I'm pretty sure Jack has his hands full at the moment without anyone snooping 'round--"
"Guess who."
She recognized the voice, despite the attempt to disguise it. "Morning, Ray," she said, gently removing his hands from her eyes. "I was letting you sleep in, y'know. You might not get another chance."
Deciding it was necessary to enlighten James, she explained, "This is Raymond, a fellow flight attendant. Ray, this is James."

"Everything okay?"
Ethan wheeled around with eyes full of a sudden, burning rage. "What? What-! Oh, yes, absolutely." he snarled, suddenly advancing on Heidi with fists clenched tightly, towering over her. "A plane drops out of the god-damn air, tearing apart and scattering all these useless little people over the place, and I have to be nice, I have to not think of myself, something I'm used to doing. But that's okay. I get attacked for beating on a man that deserves nothing less than unrelenting pain, and I'm turned into a villain by a latino whore."
As he continued to speak, his eyes of hate softened into a mixture of anger and sadness. He drew even closer to her. "The one person I feel like I've made a connection with in about five years and hasn't treated me like complete crap all my life sees me as a friend and possibly just a convenience while gushing over some useless wrong-skinned terrorist who's probably gonna pull a jihad. And I have Cyrus, showing everyone that lovely side, because he's such a good person. And to top it all off, I have you...asking me how things are. Apart from that...everything's just ducky."
The wound on his nose had opened just slightly. Just a small slip of blood peeking out. He wiped it away, and turned around suddenly. He closed his eyes briefly. "Sorry. You didn't deserve that. My fault. The whole situation is just...getting to me."

It was such a shock, this change in his character, that I was frozen to the spot. I'd remembered him as being really kind and helpful. He'd even saved my life the first day. This was like an entirely different person. I'd reflexively pushed little Sarah behind me as he menacingly towered over me. I could feel myself pale and start to shake with the sudden jolt of adrenaline created by a fear like I hadn't felt since witnessing the trees being knocked down accompanied by loud roars. I could see the hate and rage flashing in his eyes. So much I could swear I felt it. It was not normal, all this pent up anger.
If I hadn't seen the slight softening, I would have stepped back. Actually, I would probably have picked up little Sarah and just ran as far away from him as I could, even if it meant going into the jungle. Right now, that monster seemed less scary. The pain and sadness in his voice and now present in his eyes lessened my fear, but that wasn't saying all that much.
"I'm sorry, and I'm sorry I asked," I said in a quiet, shaky voice as I took little Sarah's hand and very quickly walked away. In a daze, I grabbed a rag from the pile of clothes and headed for the shore as planned, completely forgetting that I was waiting for Cyrus.
When we reached the shore, I left go of little Sarah's hand and managed a small shaky smile. "You can wait right here or step into the water if you'd like, like we agreed, okay?"
With her agreement, I stepped knee-deep into the water not registering the feel of the ocean water soaking through my jeans or the feel of the small waves crashing against my legs. I soaked the rag and my hands, still slightly shaky, lost the grip on it. I could feel tears stinging the back of my eyes. "Dammit," I said to myself. Just great, I'm turning into a crybaby. Just calm down, get yourself together, I lectured to myself as I smoothed my hands over my face and took a deep breath.

***Cyrus enters***
Zipping up, he headed down to-wards Ethan. "Did she come back?" he asked. Ethan didn't reply or face him, he simply pointed towards the beach. Cyrus, puzzled, looked from Ethan to the direction he pointed in, and headed towards Heidi.
"Couldn't wait for me, missy?" he said, reaching Heidi. When he saw her expression, his dropped. "What's wrong?"

I was still on edge and Cyrus' voice startled me. I quickly composed myself when something dawned on me. "I'm sorry, I forgot to wait." Before answering his second question, I made myself busy retrieving the rag I'd dropped so as to avoid eye contact. "I'm fine, just overreacting is all. I stuck my nose into someone else's business." Picking up the rag, I looked back up at him and his expression made me just spill it all out. "I asked Ethan how he was and he kinda lost it. He scared the hell out of me, Cyrus. Something's not right there." I immediately regretted saying that last part and quickly grabbed his sleeve leaving a wet handprint. "Please don't tell him I told you anything. He's just having a bad day and I was in the wrong place at the wrong time." It wasn't just the fact that I didn't like starting drama but also the fact that some part of me thought that if it came back to him, he just might strangle me in my sleep, but I was just overreacting. At least I hoped I was.

"I asked Ethan how he was and he kinda lost it. He scared the hell out of me, Cyrus. Something's not right there."
His eyes widened in a sudden, quiet fury that was barely noticeable. He turned his head in the direciton of Ethan before Heidi grabbed his sleeve.
"Please don't tell him I told you anything. He's just having a bad day and I was in the wrong place at the wrong time."
He turned back to Heidi, and put one arm around her shoulders, hugging her slightly. "Don't you worry yourself, I won't. But Heidi, he can't behave that way to you. Someone's gotta talk to him."

I felt much better with Cyrus' presence. I felt safe around him and talking it out made me feel much better and made me realize I'd made too big a deal out of nothing. Ethan's expression flashed through my mind. Okay, maybe it wasn't exactly nothing. Something definitely wasn't right with that man. "Thanks, I appreciate it. Besides," I added with a small shrug, "he'd have snapped at the next person who spoke to him. Like I said, I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's not like he's got some personal vendetta against me," I said with a small laugh. "And nobody needs to talk to him. He realized his mistake almost immediately and he apologized. Water under the bridge."

"And nobody needs to talk to him. He realized his mistake almost immediately and he apologized. Water under the bridge."
"If you're sure?" he studied her expression intently. "Well...if he does anything like that again, you tell me, all right, Heidi-honey? If he's got a temper or something, it's a concern for the whole camp. He beat up the Southern packrat yesterday, after all."

Ethan closed his eyes, slowly counting. Having lost patience completely was just...a silly thing to do. He sighed deeply, and stalked off to his shelter.
