Vincent awoke and stretched himself out across the sand, sniffing the air happily. A dozen different scents were already introducing themselves to his nasal, many of which, he realised jovially, were of the edible variety. It was almost time for one of his seven breakfasts and that meant retrieving the pretzels he had so cunningly located the previous night. His tail wagged rapidly from side to side as he sniffed the sand and allowed his nose to lead the way...

HEIDI
I said "Good morning," back to Cyrus and my attention was promptly being requested again from little Sarah. I held back a laugh at her dream of kicking a log, which, unfortunately, had been me, but it was all forgotten when she gave me a hug in thanks for the mango. I watched her set off toward Jinx at one of the fires and kept an eye on her as I looked from person to person as they spoke.
"Like a log at little Sarah's feet," I joked in good nature.
Little Sarah returned and started going on about articles she'd read regarding Jinx being a drunk. Gwen started explaining and then gave me the 'help' look. I quickly spoke up. "Gwen's right, those magazines try to find stories on celebrities as often as possible and the more negative, the better. Some paparazzi probably just got a picture of her as she happened to be holding a glass and they jumped at the opportunity to make it sound like she's always got a drink in her hand." Of course it could very well be that Jinx did party too much, but it wasn't my place to judge her or to let little Sarah think that everything she reads in those magazines is correct.
I gave Erik a quick 'you're not helping' look then turned back to little Sarah to explain why the magazines would lie. "For some reason, most people tend to have this fascination with the private lives of celebrities, thinking that they're living this perfect, glamorous life and that they're somehow more important than us everyday folks. I guess they like reading more about the bad parts because it makes them feel better knowing that celebrities aren't as perfect and flawless, nor are they better than the average person. They still are people, after all. Just because more people know about their existence doesn't make them a better person. It just means that more people are going to know about it when they do mess up and their mess ups can be blown out of proportion."

"Depends on the magazine...I found out I was divorced from my second wife in one of those rags. Thank God for pre-nups."
"And here I thought such things only happened to the wives of former New York mayors," Gwen remarked as Mason walked up to join them.
And then Heidi started in on her speech to little Sarah about the perils of celebrity, so Gwen thought it best not to mention Jinx's escapades in first class on the flight. After all, that was ancient history and everything was different now. Everyone was different. And Jinx had proven to be a good person and a supportive friend, if a bit over-enthusiastic at times. She simply stayed mum and sipped her coffee.

Little Sarah With a smile and a nod, she help mr. Floppers close and sighed. Another long day was ahead and Little Sarah knew that, Thou they were stuck here little sarah felt as if she belonged her. She had people watching out for her just like home, she had people caring for her, feeding her. and making those lame Adult excuses, felt just like home. she smiled, she felt like singing. Boom, boom ain't it great to be crazy(Click her for extended lyrics) I love myself, I love me so, I took myself to the picture show, I put my arms around my waist, I got so fresh I slapped my face. Boom, boom ain’t it great to be crazy Boom, boom ain’t it great to be nuts like me, Silly and foolish all day long, Boom, boom ain’t it great to be crazy. A horse and a flea and three blind mice, Were sitting on a corner shooting dice, The horse he slipped and fell on the flea, Whoops said the flea there’s a horsie on me. Boom, boom ain’t it great to be crazy Boom, boom ain’t it great to be nuts like me, Silly and foolish all day long, Boom, boom ain’t it great to be crazy. A horse and a flea and three blind mice, Sat on a curbstone shooting dice. The horse he slipped and fell on the flea, "Whoops," said the flea, "There’s a horse on me!" Boom, boom, ain’t it great to be crazy? Boom, boom, ain’t it great to be crazy? Giddy and foolish the whole day through. Boom, boom, ain’t it great to be crazy? Way down South where bananas grow, A flea stepped on an elephant’s toe, The elephant cried, with tears in his eyes, "Why don’t you pick on someone your own size?" Boom, boom, ain’t it great to be crazy? Boom, boom, ain’t it great to be crazy? Giddy and foolish the whole day through. Boom, boom, ain’t it great to be crazy?

MASON Erik glanced at the kid and then looked back at Gwen and Heidi. He looked at Gwen and then looked at Heidi and then back at the girl.
"She's got a hell of a voice, I'll give her that," he said. "Better than Ginger Spice over there, if you ask me. Which of course, would never happen."

She smiled as little Sarah gave them all a private concert. If she was singing, that meant she was more or less okay. And at least someone felt like singing as another day without rescue loomed over them.
"She's got a hell of a voice, I'll give her that...Better than Ginger Spice over there, if you ask me. Which of course, would never happen."
"Of course," Gwen agreed. "Might I have a word with you, Mr. Mason?" She nodded off to the side and began walking a little further up the beach, trusting that he'd follow.
When they were far enough out of earshot, she asked with a smirk, "Able to walk alright this morning? Look, I don't really know what happened with Ana last night, or in what situation you felt the need to intervene, but there's a very dead piece of Dr. Arzt's bug collection in my tent right now so...I was hoping you could shed some light on the subject."

MASON He sighed as he was pulled aside. He didn't like explaining how he worked and he definately didn't like explaining what he did to people who didn't appricate it. However, he had failed in this respect last night, so he would do his best to help her understand.
"I observed Ana getting the bug from the clumsy looking fellow," Mason said, in a flat, explainatory voice. "I decided you might be more receptive to reason, so I tried to get you to talk to her. I failed, and you asked me to guard your tent. I got there, but not until after she had released the bug into the tent. I tried to reason with her. It was then that she rapidly made contact with my groin with her knee."

She stifled a laugh at his last statement. "Sorry, sorry. It's not funny. I know it's not funny," she said quickly. "Mr. Mason, I apologize if you got caught in the crossfire. I promise I will deal with Ana today; our continued bickering certainly won't help our current circumstances."
She pursed her lips in thought. "I should apologize to Dr. Arzt as well. That Spanish tutorial I gave him probably wasn't the best idea I've ever had," she admitted.

"Damn if that don't sound nice." he lamented with a slight grin. He moved closer to Heidi. "And is she a living jukebox, or what?" he whispered, smiling.

MASON "Good," Mason said, with a smirk. "Glad to see we're getting past that whole middle school mentality thing. I swear to God, it was like the set of Charlie's Angels out here--I wish Thandie Newton had taken the role and not Lucy Liu... that lady was a..." he glanced over at Sarah, "...not...nice...lady." He mouthed a meaner phrase at Gwen and shook his head.
"Hopefully Ana is more receptive to you than she was to me."

"Hopefully Ana is more receptive to you than she was to me."
"I think it's safe to say she won't be," Gwen said, "but I'll stay well out of her knee's reach, just in case."
She crossed her arms and tilted her head at him. "Mingling with the proletariat this morning, are we? Y'know, these people don't really care how many red carpets you've walked or how many movies you've brought in under budget. They care about food, water, shelter," she observed, his remarks from the night before about having difficulty dealing with the common people still annoying her.
"That plane crash put all of us on equal ground, Mason. There's no hierarchy for you to be at the top of here."

MASON He frowned. That wasn't his point, he was not trying to appear better than anyone else. In fact, he knew they were all on equal ground, and was trying to exploit that very fact.
"You'll have to excuse me," he said, trying to force out a smile. "It's all a matter of frame of reference. I'm not trying to name drop. I don't ever need to name drop. If I wanted to impress you I would have picked a set to a better movie than Charlie's Angels. I was just trying to pull an example from my life when I have observed pety behaviour causing problems. My job just happens to feature famous people, some of whom happen to be real pains in the... butt... You wouldn't yell at anyone else for talking about people they work with. Well, these are the people I worked with, sister."
He paused and glanced at her, shaking his head. "I've been me for far to long to be anyone else."

"I've been me for far to long to be anyone else."
"And how lovely for the rest of us. Good thing I don't know who I am yet," she retorted, quirking an eyebrow and repeating his appraisal of her. "I might have been stuck as a humorless, heinous...not nice person, but I think Ana's got that market covered."
She glanced downward and then back up at him, smiling pleasantly. "And I wasn't yelling at you, Mason. I just be want to be sure we understand each other. It's not terribly nice being on the lowly level of a PA again, but that's how it is."

Bella held the bowl she'd found carefully in her hands. For the past few hours she'd spent trying to make breakfast for some people, she wandered over to Heidi and a few other people. "Breakfast?" She beamed, offering them the bowel, "It's just a few fruits - i couldn't really find anything else." She apologised.

MASON He lowered his sunglasses and smirked, popping them back up. "Why do you think I'm so snippy?" he said with a smile. "And we have an understanding."
A smile crawled on his face.
"So you were a PA, eh?" he said, a big smile on his face.

"So you were a PA, eh?"
His question struck her into silence. Industry talk took her back to a part of her life she didn't want to think about, let alone discuss with strangers; she hadn't even meant to mention it. It was just a force of habit, maybe. She brushed a few windswept stray hairs out of her face and tucked them behind her ear, not meeting his gaze. "Well, that was a while ago," she replied. "A whole 'nother lifetime, really."
She shifted back into cheerful professional mode. "Anyway, I think I might have found you a leading lady," she smiled. "Her name's Tusti. Lovely Indian girl who was helping me collect electronic equipment for Sayid yesterday."

"So now your a casting director, eh?" he said, with a huge smirk on his face. "Well, I guess that explains a lot. Most of us have past lives. What's great is that we always have chances to start a new one."
He paused and let her think he was capable for the nice, populist thought for a second before adding "I think that was from something I read on the plane. Tusti, eh? Have her come by and we'll chat."

She nodded in agreement with his words about starting anew and began walking back toward the loosely-assembled group.
"I think that was from something I read on the plane. Tusti, eh? Have her come by and we'll chat."
"Oh, so you're taking meetings now?" she joked. "Nice. I'll see what her schedule's like. No actresses till after lunch at the Ivy, right?"

**James Woodhouse enters from his shelter**
"Bugger off!" James hissed as Vincent bounded after him. He had never been much of a morning person and was certainly not impressed with his new, rancid breathed alarm clock.
"Here you go" James said, bending down and picking up a nearby stick. "Don't worry about bringing it back" he added, pulling his arm back and hurling it into the jungle.
