BROOKS enters from C3-Beach of the Tailie Survivors
Aaron stopped after a few minutes in the woods and took a look around. He glanced at a few trees and pointed in a direction.
"This way," he said, and took a few steps forward. "So, where were you guys sitting on the plane?"
He spoke in a lackadasial tone, as if he were just making small talk.

GOODWIN
***Goodwin enters from C3-Beach of the Tailie Survivors***
He walked at a steady pace behind Brooks, but beside Paul.
"So, where were you guys sitting on the plane?"
Goodwin laughed to himself, as if to connect it to his lie, "Literally behind the washrooms," he said whimsically, "But I guess nothing can top crashing into the ocean, and being stranded on this island."

"Literally behind the washrooms. But I guess nothing can top crashing into the ocean, and being stranded on this island."
"Amen." Paul answered, shaking his head in feigned disbelief and frustration. "Hey, did you hear anything, Brooks? Uh, I mean hear anything that sounded like... engine failure? Something kaputt with the plane? I was sleeping one moment, then we were falling out of the sky the next. It doesn't make sense, you know?"

BROOKS "I was in the last row infront of the bathrooms," he said, looking back to Goodwin. "I was pulled out of the plane, I guess, because I landed in the middle of the woods."
"All I remember was the plane started shaking, which I'm sure you remember," he said, without a sence of irony. "It started off mild and then became bigger. I blacked out, but it looks like the plane broke up in mid air. There's debris all over the jungle."

Paul sighed quietly. "Weird." He shrugged dismissively, as if the reasons for the crash would be explained soon enough.
As they continued to walk along, Paul decided to make some 'small talk' of his own. "So anyone waiting for you in America when we get off this island?" The question was posed generally. He just hoped Goodwin would answer first and make some sort of reference to those who might have died in the raid on The Survivors. What happened next depended on who had been hurt in that raid.

BROOKS "I think that he's talking to you," Brooks said, looking at Goodwin. "I already told him my story last night. I don't think it'd be something he'd forget."
With that, Brooks took out his baseball and threw it in the air, catching it.
"So, Mr. Goodwin, do you have someone waiting for you when we get to go home?"

GOODWIN
"So anyone waiting for you in America when we get off this island?"
Goodwin paused in thought, he looked up at Paul, and then he stared at the ground. He continued to follow Brooks, but he lost track of thought. All he could think about now is Juliet, and how he left her so soon, and so quickly. He hadn't even had the chance to say goodbye, and now he was trekking through the jungle looking for parts of the plane.
"So, Mr. Goodwin, do you have someone waiting for you when we get to go home?"
His train of thought was broken, he looked up and smiled, "Yeah...I guess you could say I got that special someone waiting for me back home." He looked at Paul and then back at Brooks trying to figure out where they were going, "So how much further is it Aaron?"

"It's not too much further," Brooks said. "You'll know it when you see it." He looked back at Goodwin with a smile. "I'm glad you have some love in your life, buddy. It's just around the treeline here."
Brooks turned a corner behind a tree and quickly pulled out the pistol. He popped out behind the tree and pointed the gun at Paul.
"I think it's about time we had a talk, fellow," he said, pointing the gun at Paul's head, keeping a few yards away from the others. "I've got some questions and you've got a problem, because I can spot a liar. Even one as talented as you. So sit down on your hands. Now."

GOODWIN
"It's not too much further,"
Goodwin could see Aaron's hesitation, Goodwin could almost predict Aaron's next move. As Aaron drew the gun and pointed it at Paul, he tried to look as surprised as possible, "Aaron...What are you doing?"

"Yeah...I guess you could say I got that special someone waiting for me back home."
Paul realized that he had been holding his breath while he was waiting for Goodwin to answer. He had been ready to do... unspeakable things to Aaron in vengeance for the botched raid. Someone from the project had been hurt, obviously, during the attack. But it wasn't Juliet, it wasn't someone who had been close to a friend as Paul had had in a long time. And that made what The Survivors had done slightly more tolerable.
The conversation between Goodwin and Aaron continued, but Paul it little attention. He imagined he should have been trying to glean as much information from the isolated Survivor, but he was just so shocked that God, or whatever force existed in the universe, hadn't taken someone else from Paul's life. He had thought the death of his father had been punishment enough. Maybe God thought so too.
And then he looked up and saw the gun.
"Oh Gott! Nein!" Paul instinctively cowered. He'd let Aaron get too far ahead and so there was too much distance to cover between them to disarm the gunman. So the best plan of action was to maintain the lie.
"I think it's about time we had a talk, fellow. I've got some questions and you've got a problem, because I can spot a liar. Even one as talented as you. So sit down on your hands."
"A-are you insane?! Put that thing aw-!" Paul began.
"Now."
The subject's resolve has been greatly under-estimated, as well as the extent of his abilities. Possible augmentation from The Island? He wished he could begin writing down the hypotheticals. But, instead, he complied with Aaron's demand to sit down on his hands. There'd be plenty of opportunity to question and experiment with this one later.

BROOKS "Aaron...What are you doing?"
"Getting some answers," he said, looking to Goodwin. "You don't have to stick around if you don't want to. I didn't lie. There is a whole row of seats, as well as a few pieces of sheet metal and at least four blankets underneath one of the seats."
He wished he could begin writing down the hypotheticals. But, instead, he complied with Aaron's demand to sit down on his hands.
"Thanks for not making a scene," he said. "I don't like this, but you don't seem that willing to be honest. First I'm going to tell you a little story, and you're going to listen to every word. Understood?"
He didn't wait for an answer. "The plane broke up over the island. I was in row 30, the last row before the plane broke off. My seat landed in the middle of the jungle. I tried to follow the debris to the other side of the island--I thought the main part of the fuselage would have a better chance at making it, but I lost the trail."
He paused, maintaining his distance. "I've been up and down the path of the wreckage. I didn't find any tracks until the spot where that Bernard fellow was trapped in a tree. But that's not the whole story.
"On the first night I was in the woods when I heard something approaching. I quickly hid--just in the nick of time I suppose. It turns out three people were taken from the camp last night. They tried to take a fourth--Mr. Eko I'm told his name is--but he killed two of them."
Brooks kept a close eye on the man, watching his mannerisms, his eyes, trying to get a read on him.
"I came into the camp a couple days later..." he said. "But you wouldn't know anything about any of this, would you?"

GOODWIN
"You don't have to stick around if you don't want to. I didn't lie. There is a whole row of seats, as well as a few pieces of sheet metal and at least four blankets underneath one of the seats."
Goodwin looked back into the jungle, he could feel the anxiety as he tried to chose between moving on, and helping Paul. Goodwin could easily grab the gun from Aaron and kill him. He would then let Paul go, but make it look like Paul was responsible for Aaron's death. But after thinking it over that option was no longer on the table as Goodwin realized it was too early to kill any one from the camp. Instead he decided to listen to Aaron, but before he left he told Paul in a very serious and strict tone, "Just answer what ever questions he might have truthfully, and do what he tells you..." Goodwin paused, and made it seem more like a suggestion then an order, "and this will all be over."
Goodwin picked up his things and turned to Aaron, "Aaron, a word of advise do not pull that trigger until you are sure one way or the other." He then looked back at Paul with a worried look, and then took off to the wreckage.

"Just answer what ever questions he might have truthfully, and do what he tells you... and this will all be over."
Paul pleaded with his eyes for Goodwin to stay. But the other man left, intent to look after himself first and all others second. Trip and fall, you son of a bitch. Trip and fall. Perhaps it was a bit harsh to wish ill of someone else from the project. But a highly unpredictable and hostile Survivor had a gun pointed at Paul's head and the best Goodwin had to offer was to turn tail and run.
"Thanks for not making a scene. I don't like this, but you don't seem that willing to be honest. First I'm going to tell you a little story, and you're going to listen to every word. Understood?"
I've had it with your stories, you xenophobe. Paul smiled caustically, letting Aaron know he was frustrated and enraged by being threatened with a gun. "Happy to obl-"
The interruptions were getting annoying but Paul sat patiently and listened to the story.
"But you wouldn't know anything about any of this, would you?"
Paul sighed, shook his head as he stared at the ground and then looked back up at Aaron. "No. And why the hell would I?" Paul replied, finally. "I've told you already, I ran from the wreckage and lay out here in the jungle until a boar came after me. I just... needed to come to terms with being here. And not where I was supposed to be."

I just... needed to come to terms with being here. And not where I was supposed to be.""No other seats ended up in the jungle," Brooks said, pointing the gun at Paul, adjusting his grip as sweat began to drip from his forehead. "There were no tracks along any of the pieces of wreckage. There is no way anyone else was in these woods while I was... except for them." He looked at Paul. He cocked the gun, putting a bullet in the chamber. He remembered the last time he had held a gun, what had happened. FLASHBACK."Enough with the lies," he said. "Start talking."

"There is no way anyone else was in these woods while I was... except for them."
"You're insane! If there are people out there, how can they not leave any tracks?" He protested, pulling his hands out from under himself to gesture in a sort of pleading way.
"Enough with the lies. Start talking."
Paul set his chin and looked at Aaron with a look of pity mixed with indignation. "Aaron, I didn't kill your wife. I didn't kill your child. And I didn't try to kill anyone else on this island. Maybe you're looking for someone to blame for all of this. I'm not that someone. Now put that damn thing away and let's get back to work, schön?"

"I didn't kill the man who killed them," Brooks said, calming himself down. "This isn't about them. This is about you. You said you were on that flight? Convince me."

Paul was silent for a few moments, as if trying to find a way to convince Aaron that he was on the flight. In truth, he was trying to figure out if he should use what he had been given before leaving The Barracks. He hadn't given it a very close look, so he was unsure if it would actually work.
His eyes flicked back up to Aaron, as if coming to a realization and remembering something. "I have a passport. In my back pocket. I'm going to reach for it now, ok? Just don't shoot me."

"Go ahead."
Paul hesitated for a few moments, watching Aaron closely. The manic change in tone was unsettling. Definitely not one for The List.
Paul reached back with his hands and slowly pulled out the passport Mikhail had made for just this occasion. "Here." He said, holding it out in front of himself prominently. "It's in German. But you'll get the gist of it."
He offered the passport in one hand. It looked worn, with the red cover a little frayed. But the gold lettering "Bundesrepublik Oesterreichs" was still visible above the emblem of the Hapsburg eagle.
