PAUL
"Yeah. College and University. I have a degree in media, art and english. I've not used any of them though."
"Ah. English." He nodded. Then he placed a hand on his own chest, looking as if he was searching for the right words. "My degree was Political Science." He shrugged dismissively as well.
"Ever read Hobbes? Thomas Hobbes?"

"Oh..." Scarlett raised her eyebrows, "We have an intelligent one here!" Smiling politely she answered, "No, sorry...i'm not an avid reader, a few books here and there but most of the time i'm busy working."

"We have an intelligent one here! No, sorry... I'm not an avid reader, a few books here and there but most of the time I'm busy working."
Paul smirked at her surprise. "An English Major who doesn't read? That's a... a very charming novelty."
He waited a few moments and then his expression turned serious. "The others, with our camp, they don't trust me much. No one does. And no one talks to me unless they want something. So, tell me, Scarlett- what is it that you want?"

"An English Major who doesn't read? That's a... a very charming novelty." "I used to read all the time, it's only since i got out of Uni that things turned...boring?" She shrugged it away again, closing the subject.
"The others, with our camp, they don't trust me much. No one does. And no one talks to me unless they want something. So, tell me, Scarlett- what is it that you want?"
Shocked by his deadly serious tone, Scarlett turned to face him, a grim set to her mouth. "I've been having the same sort of problem as you, Paul. People don't like me, they don't even bother trying to start a conversation with me. I tried so hard to get myself noticed by people but they didn't want to know. So i gave up, then i notice that your just like me. An outcast, disliked...a threat even."

"A threat?" He blinked, then snickered as if finding the notion comical. "I'm not a threat to anyone. I'm just an analyst. Why would anyone feel threatened by me?"

Scarlett raised her eyebrows, shaking her head she began to explain: "Umm...you have the potential to be the alpha male, you could quite easily over throw Kyle in his position. It's like a food chain, you're the outcast but the minute you decide you want in on whatever they are doing, or you want to fight Kyle for his, what would you call it? - Popularity, that's not the right word but it will have to do - You will get it. It's like High School." She smiled at her poor explanation, "It's hard to describe but your definitely one to watch out for, the underdog."

Being described as an alpha male was a bit... bizarre. Paul had never considered himself as such. Ben led their project. But he wasn't exactly what one would describe as the stereotypical alpha male. He derived his authority from Jacob. Ben led because Jacob wished it to be so- a Jacob was beyond such primitive descriptions as "alpha male". He was a man not defined by his chromosome make-up but by his... his miracles.
Tom was too old to be considered an alpha male. Richard was too introverted. Paul couldn't quite peg who could be considered an alpha male. Maybe it was because their society truly was beyond such silly concepts. Or maybe it was because it was Goodwin and Paul wished to deny that to himself. After all, Goodwin was the "best friend" of the most gorgeous, talented, charismatic and intelligent woman present. Darwinism at its worst? It was a disgusting notion. But the truth didn't exactly come in minty fresh as its only flavour.
"What about Aaron? Goodwin? Der Afrikaner?*" He asked. "This position you speak of is highly contested. Why would I even want to bother? Besides, rescue is coming. Why waste time with infighting?"
*Der Afrikaner: The African man (German)

"Fine. Call it what you like but I stand by what I said."
"So how is this important to you?" He asked. "What do you get out of me being this 'alpha male'?"

Quick to cover up any suspicions, Scarlett shrugged, "I get nothing. Why do you assume i'm after something?" Turning away she continued to walk away from the others.

"I was going to kill him," he said. "But something happened. I couldn't do it. I wanted to watch him suffer in jail being some guys Susan. Instead, a cop shot him in the head. He used me to find this guy, then shot him because he couldn't solve the damn case himself."

Rolling her eyes, Scarlett shook her hair behind her. "You're paranoid."

"You're paranoid."
"One has to be." He replied, harshly. Unfortunately, his mind was diverted with the thoughts of what Martin had said and what had happened to Paul since then. This distraction made him lose focus on the facade he was presenting and a hint of his true accent- a very domesticated southern English accent- made it through the "fake" Austrian one.
He swallowed hard, realizing his mistake. Maybe she didn't hear.

"Well..." Kyle replied, as he almost tossed up one of the man's arms to get a better grip, "At least we both have something to be upset about," he joked without changing his mood or tone, still remaining very stern and solemn. Kyle slowed his pace and looked around. "How's here?" he asked, wanting to put the body down as his poor grip on the man was burning his muscle.

GOODWIN
He walked over and stood next to Etana, but he was looking down the beach at Paul, "Its terrible isn't it," he turned his looked over to Etana, "Having someone else die on us, especially just after things were starting to calm down a bit."

Scarlett frowned, "What's with the cheesy accent?" She'd noticed a change in the man's accent, it was an english one. She couldn't tell what part of England, just that it was english.

"What's with the cheesy accent?"
Schiesse. She heard.
There were a few possible ways to respond to this. But he decided to go with the most innocent and least harmful one. "Hm? Oh, es tut mir Leid*. My mother was French and I lived in Belgium for a while. So my accent is a bit... pan-European. It changes when I feel stress. Which is natural right now, no?"
*Es tut mir Leid: "It does me sorrow" or "Sorry" (German)

MISTER EKO
Death. Eko knew death well. He had seen many men and women die in his life. Some good, some bad. Some at Eko's own hands. So when the older man- the one he had heard called "Donald"- passed away, Eko was not taken by surprise. Nor was he driven to grief. Donald's death had been a natural one. The Lord had seen fit to take Donald into His graces. Donald was killed by no one and so this death was a cause for sadness, but also jubilation. In a way, Donald was the luckiest one of them. He had been rescued, but the rest of the people who had survived the plane crash were still waiting for mortal rescuers who might never come and would take them to a life that was sometimes reminiscient of purgatory.
Eko felt an urge to explain this to everyone. He wanted to tell them all to dry their tears and pray for Donald's acceptance into Heaven. But still Eko refused to talk. He had made an oath and he would not break this one.
He went back to work on the shelter he had been assigned to, lashing the sheets of metal and heavy branches together to make something sturdy enough to even survive the storms that would ravage the slums outside of Lagos during the summer.
