"Okay ..." Sarah replied shortly but not pissed or anything ... just suprised.

"So, does anyone have any idea where the signal is coming from? Can we find out and turn it off?"
"I dunno..." She stared off into the distance, as if going through all the possibilities in her head.
"Where would we even start looking for it?" The question was hypothetical, but she would have gladly taken any reasonable answer. Ana slumped down onto the sand, sitting facing the ocean. It had become something of a habit to stare at the waves when faced with impossible questions. As if somehow, the sight of the ocean would bring with it enlightenment. But sadly, there was none for her right now.
"This island's fairly huge, from what I saw on our little trip into the unknown. I'd say needle in a haystack ain't covering it. Sayid's still collecting electronics. I think he's hoping that a boosted signal can reach over the transmission." She crossed her arms over her knees.
"Or he's trying to distract himself from lack of hope."

***Gwen enters from Sawyer's Shelter***
By now, she'd put several dozen yards of shoreline between herself and her earlier embarrassment, but she couldn't help beating herself up over the way she'd handled the situation. Was she really that sort of person? Using her feminine wiles to get what she wanted? Ready and willing to do whatever it took to satisfy her own needs?
No, she was a good person, she assured herself. At least, she tried to be. She'd tried to be strong and self-reliant and emotionally stable, despite the circumstances. She wouldn't play the damsel-in-distress card in order to avoid responsibility and take the easy way out. But hadn't she done just that to Ethan? His willingness to build her shelter, help her gather food, listen patiently to her anxious ramblings--had she led him to expect something in return? The same sort of payment Sawyer expected?
No, no, this was all his fault. Him and that self-satisfied smirk. She'd tried to play his game by his rules, and failed miserably. Considering the other survivors' welfare, it would be unwise to make an enemy of him, since he still had 'exclusive' rights to valuable supplies. But now he knew how far she was, or more accurately, wasn't willing to go. He would always have the upper hand and he didn't seem the sort of man to let her forget that fact. And why on earth was she still wasting her time thinking about him?
She needed something positive. Uplifting. Wholesome. Something decidedly un-Sawyer-like. And she found herself smiling when she finally came upon the sandcastle that little Sarah had told her about the night before. And it seemed like John had been drafted into service now.
"Permission to enter your fair realm, Lady Sarah?" she asked the little girl as she was busily working.

LITTLE SARAH
Sarah has Already gotten back to work by the time she got her next visitor, "Permission to enter your fair realm, Lady Sarah?" She looked up and smiled brightly and Gwen, she hadn’t seen her for a little while and was glad that Gwen had come over.
“Of course,” Sarah smiled and sat down on a patch of Sand.. Patting the patch next to her. “Something I can do you for?” she smiled and Grabbed a hold of Mr. Floppers.

She smiled at John as she kneeled down beside Sarah, dropping her backpack into the sand. Truth was she needed to see friendly face, but that was something the child didn't need to know. "Oh, I just wanted to see what had been keeping you so busy," she said. "It is a very impressive piece of architecture, my dear. And I see John has been persuaded to join your team of subcontractors?"

LITTLE SARAH
"Oh, I just wanted to see what had been keeping you so busy," she said. "It is a very impressive piece of architecture, my dear. And I see John has been persuaded to join your team of subcontractors?" Sarah smiled Indeed he had, he was working hard too. She liked that he was helping…plus he gave her an orange.
“He’s a nice man and a great helper.” She smiled at him, “Wanna help too?” she Gleamed hoping to get Gwen into the building mood. She looked like she needed some fun and relaxation.

“He’s a nice man and a great helper.”
She glanced over at John. "Yes, he helped me with my crossword puzzle earlier. Our John is a man of many talents, it seems," she observed.
“Wanna help too?”
She met Sarah's enthusiasm with an apologetic look. "Maybe another time, love," she suggested. "I'm doing some work for Sayid right now. But once that's done, I am at your service."

LITTLE SARAH
"Maybe another time, love," she suggested. "I'm doing some work for Sayid right now. But once that's done, I am at your service." Sarah nodded taking a cup she had found and cleaned, and poured some of her water in the cup for Gwen.
“Its hot out, drink some water.” she smiled and placed a small kiss on Gwen’s cheek before placing Mr. Floppers back down and getting back to work. Gwen seemed like a nice person, and little Sarah knew she would eventually get to know everyone in this island. As long as they all got saved before her meds…well no one would have to know the real her… well except a few that had seen her.
If something deeply emotional happened, anything along those lines really. There would be no meds that could stop her melt down. It was a trigger system, the meds helped but it didn’t stop the switch. Sarah was afraid that would happen, if someone scared her…she might lash out.

“Its hot out, drink some water.”
"Thanks," she said softly, the gesture of kindness almost bringing tears to her eyes after all the self-doubt and inner turmoil she'd been subjecting herself to.
"She seems to have enough blind optimism for all of us," she remarked to John as Sarah resumed her work. Then she turned serious. "John, can I talk to you for a moment?"

"It is a very impressive piece of architecture, my dear. And I see John has been persuaded to join your team of subcontractors?"
He simply smiled as he continued to help. "Hello, Gwen." he greeted. He continued to help Sarah, as she talked with Gwen.
"Yes, he helped me with my crossword puzzle earlier. Our John is a man of many talents, it seems,"
Many talents. What a lovely compliment. From a new friend. He smiled a little wider and tried to hide the slight red that came to his cheeks. He wasn't a man to blush, but compliments were...he hadn't heard them for a while. Only belittlement, from his...'superiors'.
"John, can I talk to you for a moment?"
"Of course, Gwen." he said, standing, folding his arms in thought. He started to walk with her, a little bit away from the castle. "What's on your mind?"

A few seconds of silence evolved between them only covered by the sound of the incoming waves. "Well, I have to check with Jack for some sleeping pills, haven't exactly been slumbering the last nights. And don't give me that look. If you would have some I wouldn't need to do it, but I rather talk to Jack about some than asking the overprotective flight attendant to get a long introduction about medicaments-addiction with the pills."

"Of course, Gwen...What's on your mind?"
"The transceiver party returned this morning," she said, walking with him. "All of them safe, but none of them happy. Turns out they couldn't send a signal for some reason. Sayid plans to keep trying, though," she tried to assure him. It seemed to Gwen that John's calm demeanor and apparent intellect put him in a position to be a leader among the survivors, and she wanted him to be aware of everything.
"He's organized some groups to help gather electronics, deal with food rationing and collecting rainwater. I just...wanted to keep you updated on the situation."

"Oh, thank you, Gwen." he replied, unsure of why she was telling him. Did she equate him to be some sort of...leader? Was it the gesture of a friend? Whatever it was, he was grateful for the information. And so, he extended some common courtesy. "How have you been, since we last talked? Finished your crossword puzzle yet?" he asked, in a tone that invited confidence without demanding it, in a way so she could merely joke back, or spill her secrets.

“Alright, just be nice about it.” Jasmine smiled and placed on some more of her lotion. “I’ll talk to you later, I’m sure we’ll bump into each other again.”

"How have you been, since we last talked? Finished your crossword puzzle yet?"
She laughed slightly. That happy moment of lightheartedness had seemed like ages ago. "Uh, well, you'd think I'd have all sorts of free time to work on it, but no. I keep getting sidetracked; everyone seems to need something," she replied, a bit wearily.
"Granted, it looks like we'll be here for a bit longer than expected. So don't be surprised if I come to you looking for answers again," she smiled warmly.

Sarah stood up and brushed the sand of her skin as she left Jinx with a sunny smile. She walked up the beach past the girl with the sandcastle that made not so much effort by now. It seemed that her ambitions exceeded her architectural abilities. She squatted down on the opposite side of the sand-structure looking at little Sarah, slightly touching the wet sand. "If you keep it wider in the low areas and make it slimmer on the upper edges you can build it much higher ... but I am just talking smart-ass." she grinned being reminded of her youth were her father, an architect by profession, always told her how to build a perfect sandcastle ... kinda took the fun outta it. "Have fun!" she twitched an eye at the little girl as she stood up again, proceeding her walk up the beach. Close to the construction site there was the flight attendant on duty with a bald guy looking like Indian Jones in his late ... well, very late years.
"How have you been, since we last talked? Finished your crossword puzzle yet?"
She dropped her head smiling inside as she walked up to them. "Good to hear that some of us know how to spend there time productively. Another word for flight attendant? Two words vertical, 11 letters." She stopped for a second to pretend she was thinking.

He smiled warmly. "It seems we will be here for a while longer. But there are always good things that come with the bad, aren't there? Think of this as one...big...character building experience for now. Things'll get easier, trust me."
"Good to hear that some of us know how to spend there time productively. Another word for flight attendant? Two words vertical, 11 letters."
He looked to the new woman. He calmly said, "Hi. Have you been helping Sayid with the rain-catching, or sorting the electronics?" The way it was said, it could have been a simple, inquisitive question. It was a slight insult, but there was no real malice behind it.

Gwen stifled a laugh. She hadn't even had time to respond to Sarah's condescending remark before John stepped in with a cutting observation of his own. A character building experience, he'd suggested. When there were people on this island who already had plenty of character. But Gwen thought back to her earlier conversation with Jasmine, how she'd pledged to be more understanding toward Sarah.
"Sarah probably hasn't heard the news yet," she said calmly. "Sarah, this is John. John, Sarah. Our resident doctor's lovely ex-wife," she added while introducing them.

"Hi. Have you been helping Sayid with the rain-catching, or sorting the electronics?"
Dude the bald guy had nerves. "Actually I was extracting luggage from the fuselage adding it to the supply stack and gathering mangos from the jungle. I would have gone for the first class food if there wouldn't have been a slight discomfort holding me back. And why am I explaining myself to you ..."
"Sarah probably hasn't heard the news yet," she said calmly. "Sarah, this is John. John, Sarah. Our resident doctor's lovely ex-wife," she added while introducing them.
"... John?!" Sarah sighed and tried to calm down for a second. Jesus she was easy to be heated up lately. "Alright ... what news are we talking about, that I am the biggest disappointment in the history of plane crash survivors?"

"Ah, well, I'm pretty sure there are a lot more contenders for that title, Sarah. I wouldn't be so quick to claim it yet," Gwen told her. She had indeed promised to be nicer to the woman, but Sarah wasn't going to make it easy to keep that promise.
"Anyway, the news is that the hiking party's back. They couldn't send out a signal. So, as John and I were just talking about, we're organizing people to gather electronic equipment, deal with food, water, all that," she explained.
