A part of the jungle outskirts near the survivor's camp. Location found in box F3 below: Each box is 3 miles by 3 miles. It takes an hour to walk 3 miles. But also keep in mind that hiking (like that really steep hill to get to higher ground) will take a heck of a lot longer and that if you're running (like from some jungle thing), that you'll get somewhere faster.

***Gwen and Severin enter from G3 - Camp - Gwen's Shelter***
She started to gather what seemed like suitable pieces of wood and began to bundle them under her arm, wanting to find as much as they could along the jungle floor near the camp before venturing any further into the trees.
"So...Ana's awash with good intentions, Sawyer might be less than generous, Ethan is slightly overprotective and I'm just intrigued by antique utensils," she summarized. "Any other observations of your fellow passengers?"

He thought for a moment, and then said, "I spent some time with other people on the hike, although most are just concerned with rescue and not opening up their feelings." He snapped a thin branch off a tree.
"Sayid is very intelligent, and that's all I really know about him. Charlie used to be in a band, and seems to be nice enough. The siblings, Boone and Shannon..." He paused for a moment. "Boone wants to be a hero, something which isn't particularly wise. And Shannon seems to want to prove she's not useless as her brother thinks. The others, I...well, I didn't really pay attention, to be honest."
He continued to pick up more pieces of firewood. "And Kate is...a mystery, so far. Maybe it's just my unreliable imagination, but I think there's more to her than meet the eye."

She gave him a bemused smile, taking in all the information. "Sorry, I just wasn't expecting such a thorough answer," she said. Obviously he had been observing and taking notes during their time here. Whether it was a hobby or a profession or merely a distraction was a mystery. And really, none of her business.
"With the exception of Sayid, I haven't really spoken to the others you mentioned. Charlie and Kate were on the hike to the cockpit with Jack, Jasmine and me. And Kate does seem rather fearless. Two hikes into the mysterious island interior in as many days--it's not something I'd do voluntarily," she remarked.

"Well, fear is a good thing, I suppose. It keeps you safe." he replied. "And didn't you go into the jungle, to find the cockpit with Kate and a few others?"

"Yeah, back when I was naive and foolish," she replied. "Risking our lives to bring back that transceiver, which seems to have turned out to be utterly useless. I know Sayid will do whatever he can to get it working again, but maybe Ana's right. Maybe it is pointless."

He shook his head. "I don't think so. No harm in hoping, unless you want to resign yourself to spending the rest of your life a depressing spit of land."

"I'm not resigning myself," she countered. "I wouldn't be out here picking up sticks if I were. I'm just...trying to be realistic. Obviously, we're all in a hurry to get back to our lives. Well, those of us that have something to go back to."

"Are you one of the people who don't have anything?" he asked, surprised. Beautiful and funny, it was difficult to believe such a young woman didn't have anything back home for her. He didn't have much back home, apart from an obligation.

"Are you one of the people who don't have anything?"
She stopped in her gathering to see him regarding her with a look of disbelief, that would probably turn to pity. She didn't want that; the only reason he'd spoken to her in the first place was out of concern that Ana had somehow hurt her. And she didn't want pity. To be treated like something fragile that might break at any time. Her regrets were her own and not for her to impose on anyone else.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that. Terribly melodramatic of me," she said dismissively with a smile. "Of course I have something to go back to. It's just that the thing that mattered most to me is now a burnt and charred hulk scattered across this 'depressing spit of land.' It's left me feeling rather lost."

"Of course, the plane...I take it you lived to work?" he asked, starting to realize just how Gwen must've been affected by the crash, even more so than anyone else. Chances are she was familar with the other staffs, the pilots...all of whom were dead. The plane, a familar work place, was now destroyed, a reminder of everyone lost in the crash. Everyone had been terribly affected, but Gwen has lost...everything.

"Of course, the plane...I take it you lived to work?"
"To put it mildly," she answered, laughing slightly. "I know it's hard to believe that someone could only feel in control of their lives when they're at 30,000 feet traveling hundreds of miles an hour, but such is my lot in life."
Kneeling down to pick up a few more branches, she asked, "What about you then? You said you had to travel a lot for work..."

"What about you then? You said you had to travel a lot for work..."
"Well, not really, to be honest. Not anymore. I'm a soldier...well, I was a soldier." he explained. "Lots of travelling to sandy countries, although these days I work in a museum."

"Another soldier? There's several of you lot about. Sayid, Jake. John might be, I'm not sure," she wondered aloud. "Sandy countries, huh? I suppose it's not as romantically epic as it seems in the films. More like relentless sun beating down and your M-16 constantly jammed up with sand?"

"Something like that." he laughed. "Although at dusk, it could be quite nice and beautiful. And many soldiers? Sayid, and...Jake? Perhaps we should form a club."

She laughed again at his suggestion. "Yes, your own little officers club, with all the best alcohol and the best music and the comfy chairs. And none of us lowly privates are allowed," she said.
"Right, Jake. He's a naval lieutenant. He's, um...he's rather close with Ana. I'm surprised she hasn't mentioned him to you," she let her voice trail off, their earlier encounter still stinging. Still unsure how Jake felt about her if Ana had told him the truth. And wondering if the outright condemnation would be better than this uncertain limbo.
"And now you work for a museum? Any special area of expertise?" she inquired.

"Making sure people don't jump over the rope and touch the T-Rex's teeth. I'm a guard." he said simply.

"Heh. So you and a velvet rope are all that stands between the treasures of the ancients and the hands of grubby schoolchildren. Very noble," she grinned.
"LA has some wonderful museums, if you have free time between flights. Of course, they can't compare to our own British Museum. I used to wander those halls for hours," she mused on her childhood memories.

"I've only been there once, when I was a child." he said. "But a wonderful memory, all the same. I didn't get out of Suffolk that often, and by the time I moved to London, I didn't have a lot of 'me' time."
