Following directions from the cabin crew, Ana-Lucia takes the long walk down the left hand aisle to the back of the plane. Occasionally stopping while passengers in front of her stood up to stow their bags in the overhead lockers. Some of them smiled politely, apologising for holding her up. Other's simply tried to take her head off with their oversized carry on luggage. None of it did anything to brighten her mood. As she continued past row 23, she found herself looking for the guy from the bar, Jack. He was sat next to the window, settling into his seat. She planned to take him up on that offer of a drink.
Finally, she came to her seat. 42F Perfect. Not only is it right at the back, where the damn wheels come down, it's next to the toilet and on the aisle. So for the entirety of the flight, I'm gonna have people hovering around me.

Safety Announcement:
"Good afternoon, everyone, and welcome aboard Oceanic Flight 815 with direct service to Los Angeles. We'd like to briefly request your attention while important safety information is reviewed.
"Federal law requires your compliance with all lighted signs, posted placards, and crew-member instructions.
"To fasten your seatbelt, place the flat metal end into the buckle. To release, lift the faceplate of the buckle. Tighten by pulling on the strap. Your seatbelt should be fastened low and tight across your hips.
"All Oceanic Airlines flights are non-smoking. There is no smoking in the aircraft, including the lavatories. The lavatories are equipped with smoke detectors. Tampering with, disabling, or destroying a lavatory smoke detector is prohibited.
"There are six exits on this aircraft...two doors at the front of the cabin, two window exits over the wings, and two doors at the rear of the aircraft. Again, there are two doors at the front of the cabin, two window exits over the wings, and two doors at the rear of the aircraft. Please take a moment now to locate the exit nearest you, keeping in mind that the closest useable exit may be behind you.
"The cabin is pressurized for your comfort and safety. In the unlikely event of a cabin depressurization, oxygen masks will appear overhead. Reach up and pull the mask closest to you, fully extending the plastic tubing. Place the mask over your nose and mouth, and slip the elastic strap over your head. Tighten by pulling on the ends. The bag does not need to inflate for oxygen to be flowing. If you are seated next to a small child or someone needing assistance, secure your own mask first, then assist the child.
"In the event of a water landing, your seat-bottom cushion serves as a flotation device. To use it, place your arms through the straps and hug the cushion to your chest.
"If I or my my fellow flight attendants can be of any assistance, please don't hesitate to ask. We'd like to thank you again for choosing Oceanic Airlines, and we hope that you'll have a safe and pleasant flight."

Gimme a downtown shootout over this any day...
After stowing her own bag in the overhead compartment, Ana-Lucia took her seat and buckled herself in as tight as she could. She could already feel her palms starting to sweat, but did her best to cover her anxiety. People trying to reassure her that flying was a perfectly safe mode of transport only made things worse. She tried to concentrate on other things. Like the big guy who had managed to board just before the doors were closed. Man, he's got a lot of hair...
Sitting next to Ana, was a young couple. She glanced across, noticing they held each others hand, arms intertwined. They were chatting and giggling between themselves, gazing lovingly into one anothers eyes. Ana looked away, pulling a face. Every now and then, she would hear that really annoying sound of bad kissing. After about three minutes, that too was starting to get on her nerves. Geez, get a goddamn room will ya...
On her right, on the other side of the aisle, sat an middle aged man. He was argueing with whom Ana presumed to be his wife. She might have ignored him, but for the fact he kept coughing really loudly. One of those phlemmy coughs that was a sure sign he'd been a smoker all his life. She suspected if he kept it up, she might just have to smother him with one of those little travel pillows they hand out. Either that, or beat his head against the fold down table attatched to the seat in front. At least it would take her mind off the fact they were about to take off.

For a while all Ana-Lucia could concentrate on was the sick feeling in her stomach and the fact she had involuntarily tensed all the muscles in her body. As the plane picked up speed and began to climb at an angle, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. All she could hear was the roar of the engine. Then she heard that cough.
A few hours into the flight, and Ana-Lucia had relaxed again. She'd tried sleeping for a while, but every now and then, someone would walk past her, catching her arm or her leg, waking her up. Neither the inflight meal, nor the movie held her interest and she found herself thinking about home. But that didn't last long either, as the guy with the cough started ranting at his wife again. It was enough to make her snap.
"Could you shut the hell up for one goddamn minute!" She yelled at him. Everyone sat in the seats surrounding her turned to see what the commotion was. The cough man just stared at her, dumbfounded. His wife silently smirked and Ana suddenly felt she'd outstayed her welcome. Time to stretch my legs...
*Ana leaves for the forward section, row 23*
