Jungle outskirts near the fuselage where some things from the plane may have landed. Location found in box G4 below: Each box is 3 miles by 3 miles. It takes an hour to walk 3 miles. But also keep in mind that hiking (like that really steep hill to get to higher ground) will take a heck of a lot longer and that if you're running (like from some jungle thing), that you'll get somewhere faster.

***Heidi and Cyrus enter from G3 - Area of Survivor's Camp***
I followed closely behind Cyrus as we made our way past the lining of trees, stepping high over the growth. We came to a stop not too far in and I looked up at the tree tops. "So, what kind of fruit do you think grows in this jungle?" I had no idea about such things as I bought my fruit from the grocery store. I'd never actually gone out to pick my own fruit right off a tree, accept for the orange tree in my grandparents backyard when I was little. The brief flash of memory made me smile. "You don't suppose there are orange trees somewhere in here, do you?" I asked, highly doubting there would be.

"Doubt it. All I've really seen are....mango trees, I think there's more fruit further in." he said. "For now, probably best to stick to mangoes."
He took off his outer jacket, not wanting it to get caught in a stray branch, and got a foothold on a tree. "I'm gonna resist making a joke about your mangoes, and try and get the riper pieces down. You gonna play catch?"

"I'm gonna resist making a joke about your mangoes, and try and get the riper pieces down."
I laughed. "Good, I'd have to hurt you if you did. In a bad way."
"You gonna play catch?"
"Sounds like fun," I said honestly. "Make any mango jokes and I'm gonna play 'knock the monkey out of the tree'." I smiled and watched as he climbed the tree. I'd never, as far as I could remember, attempted to climb a tree. I didn't like to depend on other people too much so that was definitely something I'd have to learn. I didn't want to have to ask someone to help me get fruit every day. I frowned as I looked at my surroundings. There I was again, thinking as if we were going to be here for a while. Time to take my mind off that thought. I looked back up and studied the way he climbed, trying to learn by observation. "I've never eaten mangoes before. What are they like? Sweet? Sour?"

He reached up, seizing a mango and ripping it from the branch. "You're gonna find out, I guess."
He glanced downwards, and then dropped the mango. "Catch, angel-lips."

I gave a small laugh as I caught the mango. "You know," I said as I placed the fruit on the ground, "I think you've given me more nicknames in two days than everyone I've ever known in my entire life has." I looked back up, ready to catch another. "And amazingly, I don't think you've used any I've heard before. So, this penchant for handing out nicknames, is it your way of avoiding having to remember names?" I teased as I smiled up at him.

He grabbed for another mango.
"And amazingly, I don't think you've used any I've heard before. So, this penchant for handing out nicknames, is it your way of avoiding having to remember names?"
He smiled back down at her. "Not at all, Helga. See? I remember your name." he replied, teasing back. "I don't usually do nicknames, you're a special case."

I blanched at that name. "Ew, you call me that again and I'll be forced to hurt you." I furrowed my brow in thought at his second comment. "So why am I such a special case?" I asked curiously.

"I dunno." he dropped down, with a mango under his arm. "Maybe 'cause I'm shallow, and it's just because you're so beautiful."
He gave a shrug, not entirely certain himself.
"Do we have enough mangoes, or d'you want me to get some more? And I think I should get some medal for resisting the urge to make a mango joke. I don't even know what I could say, it's just out there. If there were bananas, you would have the same urge."

I blushed slightly at his compliment, feeling a bit uncomfortable. I never was good at taking compliments, especially when they were exaggerated but I'd also learned not to argue it as it tended to lead to them trying to convince you they were sincere and even more discomfort. So I just avoided the subject all together, concentrating on his other comment.
I counted how many mangoes we'd collected. "I think we have enough. We can always come back for more." I laughed at his innuendos. "We don't have to have actual bananas for me to have the urge to make some comments, but I think I'll hold my tongue. Don't want you think I have a pervy mind or anything," I said with a sly grin. I picked up the mangoes we'd collected.
"So are we ready to head back or is there something else we need from in here? I'm not sure how many times I can brave the jungle."

"Oh, of course not, Pope Heidi." he said with a light smile. "And I could probably think of better things to do with your tongue then just holding it." He gave her a slight wink, and took one of the mangoes from her, so they were carrying two each.
"So are we ready to head back or is there something else we need from in here? I'm not sure how many times I can brave the jungle."
"Well, I was hoping we could play hide and seek, but sure, I guess we can head back, Heidi-heaven." he replied, keeping his friendly smile. "So...your crudely made shelter from pieces of plane wreckage...or mine?"

I gave a gasp as if I were offended but my smile ruined the effect. "You're so bad!"
"Well, I was hoping we could play hide and seek, but sure, I guess we can head back, Heidi-heaven." he replied, keeping his friendly smile.
"Sounds like fun, but I don't want to risk being 'found' by that thing."
"So...your crudely made shelter from pieces of plane wreckage...or mine?"
"How 'bout I go to mine and you go to yours where you can dream of being in mine," I said teasingly. "Because that might be the only way you'll ever be seeing the inside of my shelter," I added in a sweet voice. I loved to do some mean teasing as well.

"You're so bad!"
"I maintain that you're a bad influence on me, Daisy Eyes. Because most of the time, I'm Pope John Paul."
"How 'bout I go to mine and you go to yours where you can dream of being in mine," I said teasingly. "Because that might be the only way you'll ever be seeing the inside of my shelter,"
"Well, hell, I can do that right now." He closed his eyes, pretending to be imagining what indeed, 'the inside of her shelter' was like. He put on a fake smile at the supposed daydream he was having. "Oh...Heidi, what's with the whip? And the paddle, and all the leather? Wow, a nurse outfit as well? And Heidi, I'm pretty sure nurses don't use handcuffs..."

I playfully hit his arm. "You're worse than I am!" I said laughing. We walked in silence for a little and I realized I didn't know much about him. We always seemed to be joking around and I was curious about him. "So, what's the first thing you're going to do when you get home?"

"Not a clue, plane-crash Patty." he admitted. "Probably sleep for the next four years. Tell my landlord I have a legitamite excuse for being late with the rent for once. Clean up all the shit my dog has probably done in my apartment while I've been gone."
He stole a quick glance at Heidi, and then said, "I honestly don't know. I don't really..." And then he started to think about it. The people back home who might miss him. Pfft. Right. He didn't have anybody left. "How about you?"

"I miss my family and friends so much and I hate to think how worried they are right now. First thing I'm going to do is visit with them all, give them hugs, and tell them how much they mean to me. After that, probably order a pizza and then eat a pint of Haagen Daz coffee icecream," I added with a smile. My smile faded though as I thought about his answer. "You don't have any friends or family waiting for you? Just a dog?"

He couldn't help but smile as she described what she'd do.
"You don't have any friends or family waiting for you? Just a dog?"
His smile vanished, and he looked over at her. No. Tom was his friend, Alex was his friend, Bea was his friend, Danny was his friend.
Friends on the mainland? Out in the real world, the sick place?
He hesitated about answering the question, looked down, and then quickly changed the subject. "Uh, well, uh....anyway, um...Heidi...face, we should be gettin' back or somethin', in case the other survivors start to think we've been eaten or...something." He wasn't particularly good at avoiding a subject.

"Right," I said, picking up the pace. It was obvious he didn't want to talk about it and it really wasn't any of my business so I didn't pursue the topic. I was too distracted thinking about why it seemed to be such a sensitive subject for him that I couldn't think of what I could say to change the subject. It made me appreciate even more how lucky I was to have the friends and family I had in my life. But I also felt bad for bringing up the subject.
I stopped and turned around to face him. "Sorry, I didn't mean to pry. But you comforted me during the burning of the fuselage and I just wanted you to know that, if you ever wanna talk about it, I will gladly return the favor."

He apprieciated the thought. He did. But the last thing he wanted was to talk. About Eugene, his mother, about Cherry, Eddie, Dodgeson, Paul, meeting across the river, all of it.
"Thanks, Heidi. I just...I don't really have that many people left, is all. It ain't exactly good mango conversation either." he gave her a warm smile. "It's nothing, I'm fine with it. But thanks for the interest."

"Hey, it's not a problem," I said, returning the warm smile. "You seem like a nice person and you've helped me out a lot. You didn't have to, but you did, and I appreciate that." I continued walking. "So I do owe you a few favors. You just let me know when you need me for anything."
