Jake felt himself being lifted off the branch by the man and Ana, being hung in mid-air for a moment. He gripped onto conciousness, focused on Ana Lucia as he was being lifted down towards her. Finally the man dropped him when Ana Lucia had a hold of him, and tried to stand up so he wouldn't need to bear the full weight of his body, but found his legs numb from not having used them for two days. He had not felt this helpless in a long time... Cue flashback : abclost.proboards40.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=rpgbios&thread=1158451256&page=1

Jake's knees buckled under him and Ana took hold of his shoulders to try and steady him. She stepped back a little to brace his weight, but caught the back of her foot on a protruding tree root. With Jake leaning against her, she couldn't help but stumble, landing flat on her back, with Jake on top of her.

Locke dropped to his feet with a surprising grace, considering he had started walking just yesterday, after four years of being trapped. "You two OK?" he asked.

For a second their faces were only inches apart, and Ana looked deep into Jake's eyes, her breath knocked out of her from the collision. At least she assumed it was the collision. For that second, she was lost. Everything else forgotten. Locke, the jungle, the plane crash. Her past. Everything else was unimportant. It was just the two of them, caught in a moment.
It wasn't until Locke spoke again, that she realised how compromising their situation looked, and the fact she didn't even know who Jake really was.
"You two OK?"
"Fine." She said, snapping back to reality. Feeling self concious with Jake's body still pressed against hers. "At least we're out of the tree." She added, trying to deflect attention away from her awkwardness.

They were two people lost in a sudden moment. Jake fell, and felt Ana Lucia had him for a moment, but as they finally stumbled to solid ground and he fell on top of her in an awkward pile of bodies and arms, his eyes met hers truly for the first time, and he couldn't stare at anything else as she looked straight back into his. He had only met her a few minutes ago, but he suddenly felt there was something else unspoken between them, a chemistry, a spark that came into existance when their eyes met, something he could not place. He could not look away, he didn't want to. He had felt helpless moments before, but now as he felt himself lost within that stare, he felt a sense of warmth, a sense of familiarity, something that he had also not felt in the longest time, a feeling that he was not completely alone.
"You two OK?"
"Yeah..." he said awkwardly in answer, snapping back to reality, pushing himself up off Ana-Lucia to give her space and tried to kneel as he sat up. But as he did he lost his balance remaining upright, and clumsily fell over onto his side at Ana Lucia's feet, using his arm to steady himself. "Ahh... ouch. I'm gonna feel this in the morning..." he grunted slightly, feeling light-headed. "Hold on... I can stand..." He tried pushing himself up to his feet, and when he managed to finally appeared to get some strength back into his legs, he began stepping forward slowly. Once, twice... and then his legs gave away and he fell over again, stumbling over in a clownish manner.
He sighed as he remained face-down into the ground, holding up a hand above him and held up his index finger, in a gesture for anybody watching him to wait a moment. "Ah, nope, it's okay... don't mind me... hold on, I got it this time." he said stubbornly with some humor, pushing himself up again, but clearly was not well enough yet to walk on his feet, as he staggered and collasped again.
"At least we're out of the tree."
"Yeah... there's that." Jake said, and dropped his head down in slef-disappointment, sighing exhaustingly.

Ana tried to avoid both their looks as she got herself to her own feet, still trying to work out in her head what just happened. Her thoughts got pushed to the back of her mind, however, when she saw Jake's knees go again.
"Hold on... I can stand..."
Had it not been for the fact he obviously needed urgent medical attention, his attempts to stand on his own would have been funny. Especially when Ana moved to help him and was shooed away with a hand gesture. She stood back, exchanging a glance with Locke, both seemingly thinking the same thing. The guy sure was persistant.
"Ah, nope, it's okay... don't mind me... hold on, I got it this time."
"Somehow I doubt that." She said, as he resigned himself to laying face down on the floor. She knelt down next to him and rolled him over onto his back. Still avoiding his eyes, she looked instead at the shoulder wound from the tree branch. The gaping hole was still bleeding and lacking any bandages, she pressed her hand to it to try and stem the flow.
"We gotta get him to Jack. Quickly." She said to Locke, her voice full of business like urgency.

Locke tried to surpress a smile as they writhed on top of each other. Obvious chemistry.
"We gotta get him to Jack. Quickly."
And then she was all business. In the short time he'd known her, his respect for her had gone through the roof. She was in charge, prepared, good-natured....
"Jack?" he asked. "I'm afraid I don't know who that is. Here."
He started to help pick Jake back up. "Get his other arm." he advised, propping one of Jake's arms over his shoulders, managing to hoist him up with his strength.

Jake felt himself being lifted up, and finally gave up trying to look tough in front of these strangers. Even though he hadn't known them long, he was glad they had come to his aid.
"We gotta get him to Jack. Quickly."
His thoughts turned back to the crash quickly, hearing a name he was not familiar with. Now it was his turn to get serious. "The plane crash... how many of us are there?" he asked weakly, his mind buzzing with possibilities.
"Jack? I'm afraid I don't know who that is. Here. Get his other arm."
Jake now turned his attention on the other man who was talking, who had been so willing to help him that he had climbed up the tree after Ana Lucia. "So, what's your name? My name is Jacob, but... you can call me Jake if you like." he smiled tiredly.

"Jack?" he asked. "I'm afraid I don't know who that is. Here."
"The doctor. Short hair." She answered, putting Jake's free arm over her shoulder as Locke had done on the other side. "He was wearing a suit."

"The plane crash... how many of us are there?"
"I counted around 45, 50. Anywhere between those two." he said, and was once again reminded of all the people who weren't nearly as lucky as him. "I'm John, Jacob."

I counted around 45, 50. Anywhere between those two."Seriously? That's good..." Jake said in surprise. He would have considered realistically the total count to be less, but he was glad at the number otherwise. He wondered where they all were. "I'm John, Jacob.""Pleased to meet you, John, sir. I am indebited to you... and Ana Lucia... thanks for rescuing me, and carrying me... and for putting up with me. A lot of people can't do that last one." he said gratefully, joking at his own expense. "Anyway, thank you." At long last, back on terra firma, and with two new friends helping him on his feet when he needed it the most, Jake finally felt he was safe at long last, that old familiar feeling of home... Ana had her left hand around Jake's waist, her right hand firmly pressing against his wound, as they walked him back towards the beach. With luck, Jack would be back by now, otherwise they'd have to manage taking care of Jake themselves. I was a thought she didn't relish. Sure, she had first aid training, if it came to it, she could probably patch his injury, but there was no substitue for an actual doctor.
She's seen the way Jack worked yesterday. Tending to the masses of casualties, taking each one in his stride. Working calmly and confidently, his demeanor instilling trust in the others. They truly were lucky to have him around. Who knows how many might have died had he not been there.
"Pleased to meet you, John, sir. I am indebited to you... and Ana Lucia... thanks for rescuing me, and carrying me... and for putting up with me. A lot of people can't do that last one."
Ana-Lucia smirked.

"Well, I think it's time we should get back." said Locke. "Before that war wound gets any worse."

"Well, I think it's time we should get back. Before that war wound gets any worse.""Sounds good to me. Take me there, please." Jake agreed, although he would have agreed with anything around that point in time, considering he had no control over where he was going. "But, get back to where? The plane crash?" He wondered what the plane would look like now, and how everyone was coping. Still thinking of the crash, he looked back over to the fallen seat on the jungle floor, below the tree he had been stuck up in. The dead girl that had been sitting there was still strapped in her seat, looking vacant and eerie as she stared up into the jungle canopy and into the sky beyond. Jake felt a sudden pang of guilt, and kept looking towards her until she disappeared with the scenery behind the jungle canopy. But the thought of the body of the dead girl did not leave Jake's mind. I'll come back and bury you, soon, Marie. I promise...Cue flashback: abclost.proboards40.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=rpgbios&thread=1158451256&page=1

***Enters from F3 - Area of Survivor's Camp***
"Over here," I said to Edmund as I spotted the tarp right where I left it. I finished working out the tangled mess and wrapped it up, smiling triumphantly. I looked around the jungle. All was quiet and still, so tranquil. I almost felt silly for having been afraid to enter again. "Thanks again. So, how are you coping?" I asked, trying to make conversation as we headed back to the shore.

"Thanks again. So, how are you coping?"
"Well enough, considering the circumstances. No point in dwelling what's past. Besides, many people on the plane had it much worse than me. I wasn't travelling with anyone, and..." he broke off. "I suppose I'm trying to look on the bright side."

I nodded my head. "I know exactly what you mean. I do the same thing; no need to dwell on the sad things in life. Life is too short for that and I like to instead concentrate on being thankful for what I do have." I walked silently for a moment before continuing. "I was travelling alone as well and I'm grateful for that. If I'd have been travelling with someone and they didn't make it," I shook my head, not wanting to even consider what that would have felt like.
