"Hey, can you hear me?"
Jake started to stir again, having heard the voice and feeling something touch him. His vision blurred as he opened his eyes, looking up to find a hot latino woman trying to pull his shirt off. Despite his circumstances, Jake couldn't help but chuckle. "Man, I must be dreaming now... I'm seeing angels..." he said, still in a bit of a daze. He could hear someone or something yelling in the distance, and wasn't sure if his head was all together. He still expected at any moment he was going to jolt awake to find himself still alone, impaled on the tree branch on his seat in the middle of the jungle.

"Man, I must be dreaming now... I'm seeing angels..."
Ana smiled back at him, relieved he was still alive.
"You're not dreaming. Delirious perhaps, but definately awake" She put her hand on the side of his face, tilting his head back slightly to see if he had any head injuries.
"What's your name?" She asked, still concentrating on how the hell she was going to get him off the branch without bringing the both of them crashing down.

Worrying about both of them, he started to walk near the tree. "Is everything OK? Is he alive?" he called up.

"You're not dreaming. Delirious perhaps, but definately awake"
"Yeah, great... I was afraid of that." Jake grunted, as the woman tilted his head back, causing the neck muscles to pull the aching muscles in his shoulder, and pain quickly registered into his system, realizing he was clealy back into reality now. "Ow... careful, please..." he whinced, wondering what the girl was looking for on his face while his head was tilted back, as being in his delirious state, he couldn't think of it straight away. He was having just enough trouble focusing to stay concious, and focusing on the woman's face at the same time.
"What's your name?"
"My name's Jacob... my friends call me Jake." he replied, looking up at the latino woman. "Thanks for coming to help me... what's your name? I think... I think someone down below is calling for you..." He inched his head to look down as he tilted it to the side, to see if he could see the origin of the voice. "I'm alive... I'm alive!" he called back, hoping the man that he couldn't see just yet could hear him.

"Ow... careful, please..."
"Sorry..." She offered, her face serious again after seeing him wince in pain.
"My name's Jacob... my friends call me Jake...Thanks for coming to help me... what's your name?"
"Don't thank me yet, Jake. We still gotta figure out how to get you down." She noticed that his seat belt was already unbuckled and that the only thing holding him in place a such a dangerous angle, was the branch he was impaled on. Things didn't look good.
"I'm Ana-Lucia." She said, remebering he'd asked. "Don't worry, alright. I'm gonna get you down." She had her reasurring police officer tone of voice on.
"I think... I think someone down below is calling for you..."
Ana leaned back and looked down to see Locke craning his neck up at her.
"Is everything OK? Is he alive?"
"Yeah, he's alive." She called down. "He's pinned by a tree branch. I'm gonna have to pull it out to free him."
She turned her gaze back to Jake.
"It's gonna hurt like a bitch, but it's the only way. Can you move your arms enough to hold on while I do it?"

"I'm Ana-Lucia."
"Ana-Lucia... okay." Jake accepted tiredly, on the verge of blacking out once again. Realizing he was about to, he mentally shook it off and brought himself to focus on her image and voice, something he could cling onto to keep himself awake. "Sorry... nice to meet you. And sorry if I smell bad, too." he apologized, his sense of humor shining through. Every waking moment he was having at that moment felt painful and nausiating, like his worst hangover multiplied tenfold. Humor was his way of taking the edge off.
"It's gonna hurt like a bitch, but it's the only way. Can you move your arms enough to hold on while I do it?"
"Yeah... I can do that..." He lifted his arms up close to his chest where the wood had entered his shoulder, and clasped his hands around it, ready to pull or push like he had done several times before. "Ana, just do me one favor... since it's gonna hurt like a bitch... do it when I least expect it, okay?" he asked her, trying to pull all his focus on the conversation to stop himself from passing out.

Tentatively, Ana moved her weight over to the branch the seats were resting on, so she could pull the bloody branch out from a better angle. It gave a slight creak with the added pressure on it, but soon settled. Hopefully, she could get him free before it finally snapped. She braced one foot against the tree trunk, and put her hands on the branch ready to pull.
"Jake, come on man. Stay with me." She said, noticing he was slipping towards unconciousness again.
"Sorry... nice to meet you. And sorry if I smell bad, too."
Ana gave a little chuckle. She liked this guy's attitude.
"Ana, just do me one favor... since it's gonna hurt like a bitch... do it when I least expect it, okay?"
"Anything you say..." Halfway through speaking she pulled with all her might, every muscle straining to free him. Finally, the bloody branch came away, a wet popping noise signalling it was out of his shoulder. But with the branch free, there was nothing holding him in place and Ana had to move quickly to catch him.

Jake clenched his teeth together as he could feel the branch beginning to move inside his body, like a loose tooth wiggling around ready to come out, but this tooth was an incisor that was grinding against his shoulder blade.
"Jake, come on man. Stay with me."
"Okay, I'll stay... stay with you..." Jake mumbled incoherently, not even aware of what he was saying anymore, just speaking for the hell of it to keep his mind alert and his brain synapses pulsing.
"Anything you say..."
Suddenly there was a sharp pain, and Jake jolted awake far more than he had ever been for the past few days, screaming out loudly in sudden agony as sharp splintered wood raked across bare raw flesh. The branch that was supporting the seat beneath him creaked and groaned as the seat slid downwards from the momentum and stopped, causing Jake to slide down the slanted seat to complete the final length of the trip to the ground, thanks to the course of gravity. But Jake was not witness to the fall in the slightest - the removal of the branch from his shoulder had been so intense for his already weakened state that he had blacked out again. It was up to Ana Lucia if her reflexes were quick enough, and her strength powerful enough, to keep a grown man heavier than her weight from sliding off the chair to the ground. Jake was in Ana Lucia's hands now.

As he fell forward, Ana managed to grab hold of his arm with both hands, pulling him awkwardly across the branch with gritted teeth. But the balance of weight had shifted, putting more pressure on the weakened wood. Almost immediately, it snapped, sending the two of them, along with the seats falling down through the other branches. The seats, along with the dead woman still strapped into them, richocheted through the tree's limbs before finally crashing into the ground below.
Ana-Lucia landed squarely along the length of a branch about two feet below where she was, Jake's arm still firmly in her grasp. She screamed out at the strain of trying to keep hold of him as he hung limply below her. Her legs wrapped around the branch so he didn't pull her any further down.
"Jake!" She called out in desperation, as she felt him start to slip through her fingers. "Locke!" She yelled, hoping he hadn't been hit by the falling seats.

He leapt out of the way, landing on his stomach and hands as the seat crashed into the ground behind him, narrowly missing him. He tured around on his back, looking at the torn-apart wreckage where he'd been standing moments before. Slowly, he got back to his feet. His feet. He smiled again.
"Ana! Are you OK?" he called up.

Ana fought as hard as she could to keep hold of Jake. The intense exertion causing her arm muscles to burn. She could feel herself sliding over the edge of the branch until she was almost hanging upside down by her feet beneath it.
"Ana! Are you OK?"
"Locke!" She called out breathlessly. "Get up here, I can't hold on much longer!"
"Jake, wake up....wake up Jake....arrrgghhh, come on Jake!" She said, sweat beading on her forehead. But it was no use, the pain of removing the branch from his shoulder had knocked him out.
Don't let go....don't let go..... she repeated it over and over in her head, desperately hoping Locke would reach them in time.

He moved as fast as possible. "Just hold on Ana! I'm coming!"
Get a good foothold, that was the key. A good foothold.
He began to scramble up the tree, and when he felt he had a good grip, he reached out with one arm, trying to grab him. John Locke was a big man, a strong man who'd never let his 'condition' get in the way of anything. And that included doing weights, and playing wheelchair basketball. Most men his age weren't half as fit as he was.

She could see Locke below her, rushing up the tree trunk as fast as he could, but would he make it in time? She closed her eyes and concentrated on her grip, but the blood on her hands and the sweat from the heat and strain made it hard to keep hold and he slowly began to slide from her grasp. It didn't help that she was now upside down and all the blood was rushing to her head, making her temples throb.
She only had hold of just one hand now, but it soon became just his fingers, then finally....nothing.
"No!" She called out, snapping her eyes open to see him fall from her grip. Her hands clawing, trying in vain to grab him once again.

What a crappy time to wake up. Jake felt himself falling as his eyes blinked open, seeing Ana Lucia hanging above him on the tree branch trying to reach for him at the split second she had let him go. "Oh, shi...!" He yelled out in a mixture of surprise and fear as he fell away from her, the broadside of his back hitting a branch beneath him, causing him to curse out loud in pain again. He started slipping off this branch feet first, prompting him to react quickly and flail around his arm behind him in a wild attempt to grab it and hold on. Unfortunately this also happened to be the same arm his wounded shoulder was connected to, sending spasms of pain into his body as he hooked his arm around the tree branch. "Son of a...!" he cursed loudly again, reaching around with his other arm now to try and pull his entire body weight up onto the branch, sweating and breathing heavily.
Jake was in the Navy, and he was fit and liked to exersize regularly, so he had enough strength to pull himself up. Normally he would have been able to scale the length up the tree in a few short seconds, but his body was lacking nutrition, drinking fluids, and several pints of blood, some of which was still bleeding out of his wound as he was hanging there. And for some reason, even after the rain, he felt extremely hot and overheated for some reason unbeknowst to him. He had not been prepared for something like this under such conditions, but like any situation he had been faced with, he was quickly adapting to the pain his body was enduring in order to survive. He might not have liked it, but he was still alive. Slowly, he looked up above him, to where he last saw Ana Lucia. He had spotted a bald man climbing up the tree, and waved to him slightly, glad to see the origin of the voice he had heard down below. "Ana? Are you... okay?" he yelled, lying down on top of his branch now, unable to find the strength he needed to stand on his legs. "Alright, you asked for it... hang on, we'll come up and get you..." he said tiredly, which was better said than done, as he slipped and almost fell off the branch again, hitting his head on the branch beneath him in the process. "Ow... god damn it... hold on..."

Locke, still holding on, reaching out, grabbing at the new guy. "Give me your hand, c'mon, I'll try and lower you down."

Thankfully, Jake awoke mid fall, able to catch hold of a branch to save himself from plummeting straight to the ground. But hanging around upside down, wasn't stopping him from falling any further. So, with a little effort, Ana managed to drag her body back on top of the branch she was clinging to. For a second, she rested her head aginst the bark, willing the dizziness to go, trying to get some energy back into her arms and legs.
"Ana? Are you... okay?" Jake called out.
"Yeah, I'm okay." She shouted, catching her breath. "Hang on, i'm coming down." She added, pushing herself to her feet. Glancing over the edge, she saw Locke had a hold on him. Slipping down through the leaves and branches, she finally came level with the both of them.

Jake felt dizzy from the fall, wondering if he was ever going to get down from this tree. He shifted along the branch slowly, careful not to fall, and wondered if he still had enough stamina left to climb up the tree.
Yeah, I'm okay. Hang on, i'm coming down.
"Oh, thank god... no offense... I don't think I can take much more of this..." Jake grunted, reaching close to the trunk of the tree, seeing the man that had climbed up to help them.
Give me your hand, c'mon, I'll try and lower you down.
"Thanks..." Jake smiled at the man, who appeared to be friendly. "And I'll try not to be too heavy..." He reached out to him, so Locke could grab his hand. "I'll try to help myself as much as I can... but I'm not sure I can stand... I've lost a lot of blood..." he grumbled, feeling the tiring sensation of unconciousness coming back around again.

They weren't far from the ground now and Ana jumped down, motioning for Locke to lower Jake down to her.
"I got him...pass him down." She wiped her still damp hair from her face with the back of her hand before grabbing hold of Jake's lower body.

"Here." he said, doing as Ana said, carefully making sure she had a hold of him before letting go.
