She stifled a laugh at his comment about Jinx. Taking another sip of tea while she composed herself. "How am I coping?" she repeated. "As well as can be expected, I suppose. Drunken antics aside. I haven't instigated any more fights since the last time we spoke, which I like to think is progress."

"Well, any progress is good progress, I suppose." he nodded. "I haven't spoken to Ana as of late, but I think your policy of avoiding her and hoping she does the same is sound."

"Thanks. It's a big island, right? Maybe we can draw a line in the sand," she offered, smiling slightly. "And thank you...for earlier. Jasmine is very...enthusiastic. I shouldn't have let her go out there. It was foolish. She's not at all bothered by what other people might think of her, she just wants to enjoy life. And I can't...I can't be seen like that."
She ran a hand through her still-damp hair. "Surrounded by over 40 strangers, and I'm worried about keeping up appearances. I suppose it's all I have left," she muttered.

"Surrounded by over 40 strangers, and I'm worried about keeping up appearances. I suppose it's all I have left,"
He set his tea-cup down, and started to go through his things. "Gwen, you have plenty. Jinx gets up and sings in front of thousands of people. Trust me, I'm the same." He picked up a towel, and handed it to her for her hair. "And don't worry quite so much. I know that's very difficult considering there was just a plane crash, but...."

"Thank you," she said, taking the offered towel and trying to dry her hair. "Right, don't worry. Everything'll be shiny. I mean, I'm sure you've been in worse situations, right? We're here now, and we just have to make the best of it. Right?" she asked uncertainly.

He nodded his head, and then said with the same uncertainty, "Right."

Gwen didn't know how long she'd been asleep. A few minutes? A few hours? She vaguely recalled saying something about London, Regent Street maybe, but things kept getting fuzzy. Whether it was the wine or the steady patter of the rain or the dimming light outside or the soothing sound of Severin's voice, she was finding it increasingly difficult to keep her eyes open.
She was almost sure she'd asked if she could lie down for a bit, and she was fairly certain he'd said that was fine. She couldn't go back to her own shelter for fear of waking Ray, and for whatever reason, she felt safe enough in his company to lay her head down on her arm and let her eyes finally close. Seconds later, she was out.

She fell asleep quite quickly, and Severin wasn't surprised. Not with all there was to worry her on this island.
He took his diary out from underneath his pillow, and kept an eye on her. He silently started to read again.

"No, you don't have to go. Just stay here with me," she said softly, still troubled by her dreams. "Please. I don't want to be alone," continued her unconscious pleading.

This time, her dream was less foreboding but no less painful. She began to turn over, finding herself under a blanket that wasn't there before. Her eyes opened slowly and she remembered where she was as she looked over to see Severin.
"Oh, Sev, I'm so sorry," she said quickly, struggling to sit up but finding herself still a bit lightheaded from all the wine. "I don't know why I fell asleep. Well...I know why, but still, very rude of me. I am so sorry."
Then she noticed the look on his face. Haunted, concerned, heavy with regret. She'd seen it in the mirror enough times to know. "Severin, are you okay?" she asked softly, searching for his eyes. "You look as if you've seen a ghost. I didn't say anything horribly embarassing in my sleep, did I?" she added with a weak smile.

"It's quite all right. Don't worry about it." he replied soothingly.
"You look as if you've seen a ghost. I didn't say anything horribly embarassing in my sleep, did I?"
"No, no. I'm perfectly fine." he said, tucking the diary back underneath his pillow. "Just tired."

She smiled and exhaled in relief. "Oh, I was worried I might have said something about Sean Bean, a pilot's uniform and a hotel minibar," she said, trying to lighten the distress that seemed to plague both of them. And covering up the fact that her dreams hadn't been nearly that pleasant since they'd arrived here. "Not that I would be likely to say something like that..."
The sound of the rain had ceased, and she could see that it was already dark outside. "I forgot about the signal fires. I should be getting back to work," she said, getting to her feet and carefully folding up the blanket he'd been kind enough to give her.

"Not that I would be likely to say something like that..."
"Of course, you're pure and innocent. Understood." he nodded with a sly smile.
"I forgot about the signal fires. I should be getting back to work,"
"Do you need help?" he asked, standing fully.

"Do you need help?"
"Sure, yeah. I'd appreciate it," she smiled. "Ethan and I left some firewood over by the fuselage. Hopefully it didn't get soaked in the storm."

"Ethan and I left some firewood over by the fuselage. Hopefully it didn't get soaked in the storm."
"All right then. Oh, and I could give you a shirt if you want. I know your current t-shirt is a conversation starter but not particularly factual." he smiled, looking back over at the clothes he'd put together.

"Ah, good point," she agreed, a glance downward reminding herself of Jinx's borrowed 'Porn Star' shirt. "If you don't mind, that would be great. Just something with long sleeves that I can throw over this. Don't want to give anyone the wrong idea..."

He rummaged through his clothes, pulling out a light blue, long sleeved button-up shirt. "Shockingly, I don't keep up with the latest fashion, but this seems about your size, I think." He handed it to her with a gentle smile.

"Oh, I'm not worried about fashion so much as avoiding hypothermia," she remarked, shrugging into the shirt. Finding the sleeves a bit too long, she flopped her arms at her sides a bit and then smiled back up at Severin. "It's perfect; thank you. Shall we?" she asked, nodding toward the outside.

"It's perfect; thank you. Shall we?"
"Certainly." he smiled, and buttoned up his own dark shirt carefully, putting his arm out for her to go first.
