MIKHAIL
He sat at the computer terminal and verified the time stamp of the last communication he had received. Yes, it's coming up to that time very shortly. Ben was apparently expecting a phone call of sorts, at a specific time. The window would be small so Benjamin would have to be punctual if he wanted to receive the satellite uplink on time.
Mikhail noticed that Nadia, his cat, was behaving strangely. She seemed to be particularly facinated with the window. Most would just dismiss the actions of an animal but Mikhail had long ago learned to trust the cat. Animals had much more attuned senses than humans. All the technology of the Soviet Union was unable to detect the most capable mujahedin fighters in Afghanistan, but placing a few farm animals at certain intervals of a base perimeter was a very effective way of knowing if the Taliban were approaching. Still, even that hadn't saved many of Mikhail's comrades from some very unpleasant deaths.
"What is it Nadia?" He asked, taking up his AK-47 in one hand and moving over to the window.
In the sky, he saw what looked to be the tail end of a passenger airliner crashing not much more than an hour or two away. At first, Mikhail was taken aback. But then he remembered how long he had been on The Island and all the strange things he had seen here.
"It seems we have guests." He chuckled, stroking Nadia gently before returning to his desk.

***Ben enters The Flame with Juliet***
Ben cautiously approached the flame. It wasn't that he didn't like coming here, it was simply that he didn't like almost being shot. And Mikhail had had several 'incidents', in which Ben barely escaped.
That's what happens when dealing with a paranoid Russian loner.
Ben did like Mikhail, even if many of the others kept their distance. He knew Mikhail wasn't a 'weirdo', he simply liked the peace and quiet. Ben could certainly understand that at times.
He lifted the walkie to his lips. "Mikhail? We're here." Static, and nothing but. Again. Ben sighed, irritated. "He never has his walkie on!"

She trudged along behind him in defiant silence as they made the trek to the island's communications hub that, for whatever reason, had been christened The Flame. As far as she knew, the Ukrainian soldier Mikhail usually stayed out here by himself with only the company of a few farm animals and his cat. And she wasn't sure what that had to do with her.
"Mikhail? We're here...He never has his walkie on!"
"Ben, why are we here?" she asked.

"Ben, why are we here?"
"There's something I need to show you." he said simply, and then raised his voice. "Mikhail! It's Ben. I'm here with Juliet, we're approaching the house!"
He lowered his voice slightly, remaining careful. "Don't shoot us..."

MIKHAIL
He didn't need his walkie talkie on because he already had a line of sight to Benjamin and Juliet as they approached up the trail. Their footsteps had alerted him to their presence. His Sergeant had always reminded Mikhail and the rest of their squad not to drag their feet while on the march. There was a reason for that.
Satisfied that it wasn't anyone with any ill intentions, Mikhail had gone back into the computer room to monitor the last steps of the satellite uplink. Occasionally the 'Cerebrus Effect' would interfere with electronics on the island. But, unsurprisingly, not today.
"Mikhail! It's Ben. I'm here with Juliet, we're approaching the house! Don't shoot us..."
"Well, hurry up then!" Mikhail called out.

Ben increased his pace, not looking at Juliet as he reached the door. He turned back to Juliet for a brief moment, and muttered, "This will be good. I promise." before turning back to Mikhail.

"This will be good. I promise."
She stayed silent, continuing to follow him into the small shack at Mikhail's prompting. As if his promises meant anything. She'd called him a liar just the day before, and he'd insisted that he had kept his word. But until she saw proof to the contrary, she would always believe he was a liar.

MIKHAIL
He looked over his shoulder as Benjamin entered into the house, closely followed by Juliet. "Come in, come in."
He coughed, despite himself. A past mistake was the source of the odd coughing fit, but life on The Island had necessitated allowing his body to heal. He was confident the jungle air would eventually undo any damages he had inflicted.
He went back to checking the monitors to ensure the video feed of Oceanic Flight 815 was prominently displayed for Benjamin's benefit. It was just gravy, but Mikhail prided himself on his efficiency.

"Come in, come in."
"What do you have so far?" he asked, moving swiftly inside, looking at the several screens carefully, his eyes flickering from one to another.

"The plane that crashed was Oceanic Flight 815, from Sydney to Los Angeles. There were 324 passengers on board." Mikhail replied, attempting to complete the satellite uplink and prepare a feed to the United States, as had been requested of him earlier.
((Anyone know where I can find scripts from the show? I'm working off of fuzzy memory on this scene so far =/))

"I want detailed files on every single passenger." he instructed. He wanted Juliet to see what he had to show her, desperately. But business came first. The benefit of everyone, not just himself. He glanced over at Juliet, and then reached for headphones.

"I want detailed files on every single passenger."
"Already working on it." Mikhail indluged himself in a small smug smirk. Without taking his eyes off of the monitors in front of him, Mikhail continued typing on one of the keyboards splayed out before him with one hand while he offered Benjamin a falsified passport with the other.
It was a small gesture, intended to say How could you ever doubt my efficiency?

"We'll award you your medal later." he said, slipping the headphones on. "Can we uplink to Richard in Acadia Park, please."

MIKHAIL
"We'll award you your medal later. Can we uplink to Richard in Acadia Park, please." Mikhail grunted at Benjamin's 'bedside' manner. The feed was already uplinked. All Mikhail had to do was assign a monitor for the feed to be displayed on. He did so with a few quick keystrokes and then sat back and watched from his chair.

Juliet had hesitantly entered Mikhail's domain, laying her book on a nearby table and occupying herself with looking around while Ben and Mikhail talked business. She folded her arms and made herself as inconspicuous as possible, still unsure why she was here.
"Can we uplink to Richard in Acadia Park, please."
Acadia Park? Her attention snapped to the wall of monitors at the familiar name. Where she and her sister had spent so many sunny afternoons back in Miami. In happier times. Why was Richard there? She began to move slowly toward the two men as they continued to talk.

He turned to Julie. "Yesterday you called me a liar." he said calmly. "I was hurt by that."
He pressed the earphone closer to his ear. "Hello, Richard can you hear me?"
The smooth voice on the other end was crackling with static. But he could hear him. "I hear you, Ben."
The monitor showed the crisp image of a newspaper. "Notice today's date, this is live." said Ben.
"Now?"
"OK, Richard." replied Ben, and the image on the screen changed as Richard did as he was told. His view shifted to what Juliet needed to see.

"Notice today's date, this is live."
She stepped closer to focus on the screen showing the newspaper and watched as the camera panned up to some sort of playground. A little boy was running toward a swing and trailing after him was a woman in a floral dress, smiling and laughing as she caught up with him. Juliet's breath caught in her chest as she realized who the woman was. It was Rachel. Her sister. Looking alive and well, the colorful headscarves replaced by long curly tresses of hair that had grown back after the chemo. And Rachel was there with her little boy, a child that every doctor and every scientific fact had told them would never exist.
"Oh my god," she uttered in disbelief, running up to the monitor and placing her hands on the screen. "Oh! Oh my god!

"A little over two years ago, to everyone's complete surprise, Rachel's cancer went into complete remission. Shortly after she gave birth to a healthy baby boy." He said it all with an air of slight smugness that he'd proved he wasn't a liar. "His name is Julian." He held back a smile at the tears of happiness running down Juliet's face. Of course, soon they'd be no happiness, only tears.
He spoke into his headset. "OK, thank you Richard. You'll wanna get back here as soon as you can, we may have some new visitors."

She was only half-listening to Ben's words, totally absorbed in the image before her. Smiling as the tears ran freely down her face. Thinking about how desperately she wanted to hug her sister, tell her that she was okay and that they could finally make up for all the lost time, to meet her nephew Julian.
"OK, thank you Richard. You'll wanna get back here as soon as you can, we may have some new visitors."
Then the screen went black, and they were gone. As if she'd been given a window of hope only to have it slammed shut and locked again.
"Oh, god! No! No!" she cried, pleading with Mikhail. Trying futilely to place the picture back on the screen by pushing buttons on the console. Sobbing, she placed her hands back on the now-dead monitor.
