Benjamin Linus' eye snapped open, and he squinted slightly, and then blinked, trying to rid himself of the crust that obscured and blurred his vision. He sighed deeply, and as he opened his mouth, it was filled with mattress.
He was lying on his stomach in bed, shirtless in boxers, with a small glass of scotch sitting idly on the dressing table. Slowly, and with a long, mournful groan, he lifted himself from the double bed.
He stood, shivering slightly at the cold feel of the floor beneath his bare feet, and proceeded to the kitchen, ready for some breakfast.
Things had been going....normally. Normal for most of them, for him, it hadn't been going well, not well at all. But no, he wasn't going to think about that, and he certainly wasn't going to try and get drunk like he did last night. Drunkenness bought out the real person, and it certainly wasn't something he indulged in. Alcohol turned the most perfect gentleman into a raving, leering beast, and he sometimes wandered if that was who every man was, deep down under the pretense of civilization. Not him, though, and certainly not here. He was a gentleman, and he took pride in that fact.

Tom looked around as he walked up to Ben's door, knocking as politely as he could. He wanted to make this day as reasonable as he could, and didn't feel like talking to Ben at the end of the day.

He headed towards the door, opening it to see Tom standing before him. "Morning."

"Ben," he said, looking back and forth. "We need to talk."

He nodded. "Then I guess we need to talk. Come in." he said, turning back into the house.

Tom quickly followed him inside, setting down the bag he was carrying. As the door closed, he looked at Ben, with concern.
"Someone talked, and they all know now," he said. "And they're not going to stop talking about it. You should see what whats-his-name did to some of the houses."
He paused, and looked at Ben. "How are you holding up?"

A look of mild irritation crossed his face, and he folded his arms, sighing.
"How are you holding up?"
He couldn't appear weak, at all. Strong in the face of...well, anything. "I think 'I'm fine' would be a lie...but here's nothing I can do, so there's little point worrying. Right now, it's best to continue on as if everything was normal." he said.

"I figured as much," he said, nodding. "So, what do you want to do about the houses then? That boy started painting them. Maybe I should take him out to Hydra and put him to some actual labor so he won't have the energy to repeat such stunts."

"You know, I'm finding it difficult to think of a better idea. That...child...is going to be the death of me. He has no respect for anyone in this place and I'm tired of it." he replied. "Some real work would do him good. Or at least keep him out of my hair for a while."

"Is there anythign else you'd like me to do before I head out?"
"No, no thanks, Tom. That's all. I'll talk to you later." he said, turning to walk down the hallway. Then, he suddenly looked back at Tom and asked, "Has Juliet said anything about me?"
Oh, how pathetic. You're a true leader, Ben. Good work with being subtle, right there.

"Not that I heard, Ben," Tom said, trying to hold in his amusement. "But, she's not really talking to me a whole lot right now either."

"But, she's not really talking to me a whole lot right now either."
"She'll have to at some point." he said simply, not looking entirely at Tom. He waved his hand dismissively. "I'll speak with you later. I need to sort through some things."

"You know where to find me if you need anything."
"Same for you." he replied as Tom left. He stood silently for a moment, and then walked into the living room to sort through his books. He glimpsed at the pictures of Alex on the wall, and then continued on his way.

He could feel the sudden shaking, almost knocking him over as he reached a doorway. As soon as it stopped, he bolted out the front door.

Ben was waiting mainly for the call from Richard when he got back to the island. Then they could finally get organized. However, with the exceptions of Richard, Tom, Mikhail, Bea and a few others, he'd learned over time that just about everyone was driven by their own selfish desires.
Preston was the most see-through. He did what he was told without question, but showed no passion to wards the cause. Danny, Colleen, Pryce...they saw it as a job. Nothing more, which it should be. Juliet just wanted off the island. And Karl was too touchy a subject to even begin to think about. Not now.
