"So, you were the stewardess, right? Or is it flight attendant now? I can never remember."
She gave a short laugh. "Actually, it's just Gwen now. I'm no longer in uniform," she remarked, flipping through the pages. "And I've been called much worse than 'stewardess'. These are all really lovely; thank you for letting me look at them. Always wished I could draw. As it is, I just...appreciate the work of those who can. I spend hours at the Getty back home."
Her gaze fell on some more sketches in a loose pile. "Hang on, is this Jake?" she asked, carefully picking up the paper.

WALTER "The fella' with the lady with the attitude?" Walter asked, with a smirk, looking over her. "Yeah, that's him alright. I didn't quite capture him the first time...for whatever the reason. I drew a few of him."
He paused. "Why do you ask? Last I saw you were with the lanky fella.."

"Why do you ask? Last I saw you were with the lanky fella."
"Hmm...who? Oh, you mean Ethan? No, no, he's just a friend. As is Jake," she added quickly and emphatically. "Or at least, he was. We sort of had a misunderstanding yesterday; I haven't really had a chance to explain. As you said, he's rather elusive," she smiled, considering the drawing again. How Walter had so perfectly captured Jake's eyes. Eyes that would probably look at her in suspicion and contempt whenever she met them again.
She bit her lip in thought. "Would it be at all possible for me to borrow this?" she asked hesitantly. "I'd bring it right back, I promise. I just...think I might need a bit of a peace offering."

WALTER Walter smiled, as any old man trying to make a younger woman feel guilty would. His smile faded quickly as she went on. "Well, it looks like you are going to be stuck here with the lanky guy for a while," he said, an odd smirk on his face. "When I finally caught Jake, I thought I did a good job. He seems to be a nice guy."
"And," he added with a smile, "I wouldn't be much of a philanthropist if I didn't help you out, would I?" He smiled, though a look would still confuse her.

She nodded in agreement. "Yeah, he is a nice guy," she said softly, still unsure how to approach him even if bearing a gift. She looked back up to Walter. "And yes, I do seem to be everyone's favorite charity case these days. Thank you," she said, smiling sincerely. "Oh, and the mood for hot chocolate might still strike little Sarah after her swim. So you've been warned."
She began to turn and exit, then remembered something else. "One last thing, if I might appeal to your philanthropic nature again...do you happen to have any extra paper and pencils?" she asked.

WALTER The old man shot her an odd look after the "charity case" line, but it quickly dissolved into a somewhat odd smile. "Yeah, it's amazing the stuff people bring with them on trips, eh?" He handed her a bag that was full of various art equipment. "I guess Mr. Patterson fancied himself an artist."
"And I got the stuff ready for Sarah anyways, so if she comes by, she's more than welcome here," he said, with a smile. "But keep the fact that I'm a nice person on the down low, 'lright? There are plenty of good people in this camp, but some of them... lets just say I ain't too sure about them."

"I don't blame you at all," she grinned. "But as an Oceanic employee, I am obligated to think of all of them as dear, sweet, well-paying angels. Even when that's the complete opposite of the truth."
She gathered up the bag he'd offered, along with the drawing of Jake. "Thanks again very much. I'll pass along the message to Sarah. But otherwise...mean old man--do not disturb, is the official word." She gave him a departing smile and headed for the shelter's entrance.

WALTER The old man turned around and pulled out a new sheet of paper, and started to sketch Gwen.
