"Goodbye. And I really do wish your surname was 'sweetheart' or something alone those lines..."
"But that would be false advertising. Ready, Sarah?" she asked, standing by the shelter entrance and waiting for the little girl.

"But that would be false advertising.
"Oh, I'm not so sure about that. Besides, I'd be surprised if your name was Gwendolyn Flight-attendant." he said. "Good luck with the sand castle. Try building the Taj Mahal."

"Thats a great idea!" she smiled and looked at Gwen, "We can build a little one, not a life size one." than she turned back to Severin, "And when your all better you can come see it!" she took Gwen by the hand and dragged her off the the beach.

Severin was sketching again, another picture of Gwen. Technically. Gwen, Sarah, and one or two other people he'd seen looking out of his tent. A simple landscape drawing of the beach and tents, which happened to include the little girl and flight attendant.
Of course, now he was listening to the several sounds from outside. Faint, but if he kept quiet he could hear. Gwen's clear, crisp voice, a sad whine which felt like Ruby, and before that, a great deal of shouting. An argument? A fight? Again, that feeling of helplessness that he couldn't do a thing either way.
He had the sudden fleeting moment of fear that Gwen and Sarah were in some sort of danger, but remembered it would probably be obvious. There was a beach full of people to help them if one person turned out to be a murderer. And he'd notice if that creature from the jungle turned up.
Growing impatient, he shifted carefully over to the entrance of his shelter, feeling slight jabs of pains when he moved in the wrong way. He pushed back his entrance, peeking outside to make sure things were fine. He could just about make out Gwen talking to Ruby, and felt a pang of sympathy for Gwen. He kept the entrance open, and just watched for a second or two.

***Gwen enters from G4 Beach and Shore***
"Enjoying the view, Darling?" she inquired with a smile as she approached that he'd managed to make his way to the tent's entrance. "How are you feeling?"

"I feel like I could walk again," he replied with a wide, warm smile, Gwen's appearance stirring him out of his boredom. The frown and irritation had his position disappeared. "Although I suspect that would be these lovely painkillers lying to me..."

"They will do that, indeed. But I suspect you should follow Jack's advice and rest for a few days," she suggested. "I suppose you heard this morning's excitement, then?"

"I heard arguments, some shouting. I still don't know what happened, though," he replied, mustering a shrug. "But you're going to tell me, aren't you?"

"Well, I don't want you to feel out of the loop, Darling," she remarked, taking a seat on a patch of sand. "So the Korean man apparently attacked Michael this morning, out of nowhere. Sayid and Sawyer broke them up, and Sayid handcuffed the Korean man to the fuselage while trying to question his wife, who wasn't exactly forthcoming. Perhaps because she doesn't speak English.
"And no one from Jack's group has returned yet, except for Ethan," she continued. "But he did say the caves that Jack found should turn out to be a good source of fresh water for all of us."

He raised his eyebrows. "It's been a busy morning, then," he commented. "But at least there's some good news about the water. Do you think the others will be back soon?"

"I hope so," she replied. "At least it doesn't seem that far away if Ethan made it back so quickly. And between you and me, I'm quite ready to turn babysitting duties back over to Heidi when she returns."

He smiled. "I understand. Between you and me, then," he said, stretching. "Is anything else new?"

"Nope," she replied, shaking her head. "Same old, same old on Mystery Island. Although Ana is digging a massive hole, somewhere out in the jungle. We have yet to figure out why."

He raised his eyebrows higher. "Ana is digging a hole in the middle of the jungle for no discernible reason?" he asked, with a note of concern in his voice. "That's very worrying."

"Unless she's putting in a jacuzzi, then yes, it is rather worrying," she remarked. "Don't suppose you have any insight into the inner workings of Officer Ana?"

"Sadly, my skills of perception don't extend to mind-reading. But if I had to guess..." he said slowly. "She's making some kind of defence."

"Defense?" she repeated. "Against the shadowy unknown enemy that likes to set trip wires and throw arrows at us? Not that I'm doubting her abilities, but I believe we're at a slight disadvantage. A hole in the ground isn't going to change that."

"There's little evidence that whoever set those traps is still living," pointed out Severin. "Traps like those are built to last. They could be decades old."

"Decades," she repeated, staring off toward the treeline. "It's rather hard to imagine, though, isn't it? That this island could be sitting here, inhabited, for years and no one saw it? Also rather disheartening if you think about it...."

Severin gazed at her anxious face, then sat up even more, squirming a little to move closer. "Decades ago, they didn't have the same technology as us. Anyone who got lost, stayed lost," he pressed. "Unlike today. We'll be found. It's certain, it's just...a big ocean."
